  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Because the underachievers way over weight the overs. And the manager gets no blame for that? Especially in the case of Dunn and Rios. This team consistently has offensive players who underachieve.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) You Ozzie haters act like the whole city is in your corner. If Ozzie walked into a restaurant later tonight, the place would be buzzing. People love Ozzie Guillen as they should. A tweet from Ozzie Guillen Jr. tonight: In other words, you're wrong. His own kid even says they're very hated, and they should be. (Well maybe not Ozzie Jr, but Ozzie and Oney).
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) And as far as Ozzie Guillen goes if Dunn, Rios, and Peavy were all performing close to their norms or not getting injured wed be in first place by a good margin and no one would be talking about Ozzie being a terrible manager.. Why do people ignore that Paul Konerko, at age 35, is above his career norms in every offensive category right now? Why do people ignore that Phil Humber is pitching way over the expectations anybody had for him? What about the good fortune (based on his career history) that Quentin has stayed healthy? Or Mark Buehrle having an ERA 3/5 of a run lower than his career norm even though he's into his 30's and had an ERA over a run higher last year than this year? I get that you want to defend Ozzie, but you can't just point out the underachievers and ignore the overachievers.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) -- His handling of in-game strategy looks bad when it fails but in reality he pretty much manages by the book like most managers. -- He is an institution of sorts in Chicago. -- He actually has had this team overachieve. The offense is so bad I can't believe we're only 3 under .500. Can't decide which portion of the bolded is more wrong/hilarious.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Viciedo is back tonight. http://twitter.com/#!/KnightsBaseball/...456969173671936 And Viciedowatch II is officially on.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Spoken anonymously on the Internet. This statement really enhances discussion. Guillen is not a redneck. I like his passion when he fights back and says how rich he is. He's one of those rare managers/coaches who is willing to say anything interesting. How many are there willing to stand up for themselves? There was Ditka. There's Ozzie. Piniella was colorful. Some of them were back in the day like Weaver, Lasorda Most are plastic puppets. I love Ozzie's feistiness. This seriously reads like something spit out of some sort of cliche machine. I will say I feel kind of bad for Ozzie Jr. Seems like he's the normal one of the family.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) I don't know, if you look about 10 miles to the north, I think that guy has easily done a worse job. I'm not sure he's worse, but you make a more than reasonable point. It wouldn't be hard to make the case that the two worst managers in baseball are employed by teams in the same city.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) I believe Oney stands alone in his idiocy. Ozzie Guillen, Jr. isn't all bad, while Ozzie himself, despite being somewhat of a nincompoop, is incredibly enjoyable. I just wish he made better managerial decisions. I've heard quite a few things about Ozney from people who know/have encountered him, none of them good. I think Ozzie Jr. is fine though.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) This. Closely followed by the moment Alexei hit the grand slam vs DET in the make-up game. That week was something else. The most painful awesome week of baseball. Games 161-163 were amazing in 2008 (even though winning the division shouldn't have had to come to that). Even in 2006, there were a lot of elements I enjoyed as the defending champs and with the great start to the season. So, while I can't "rank" it, I will say the day Ozzie is gone will be a very happy one. Which in itself is rather amazing, considering 2005 did still happen. With Kenny, I know he really needs to go, but his personality doesn't lead me to the point where his canning will bring joy.
  10. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) I'm just about to that point too, BigSqwert. Which is sad, because I live for baseball in the summer. But I don't want my attendance to be interpreted as support for Ozzie or this product on the field. That perfectly depicts the struggle I'm going through right now.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 07:32 AM) Nobody hit this yet with all of the Duke haters around here? http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/men...tm?csp=obinsite There's no need to. After the Myron Piggie/Corey Maggette deal years ago, we know Duke is no different than anybody else.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 07:04 AM) So Gabe Carimi is not officially the RT and Webb is the LT. There were definitely positives and negatives both ways here. Webb is more athletically suited for the LT role, but he was terrible last year at RT, which is an easier position. And without an off-season, I wonder how much he could have improved over the summer. Then again, Carimi is a potential All-Pro at RT whereas at LT, he probably just solid. Jay, I am sorry for what you are going to endure (again) this year. It's scary how much the bolded sounds like Bears logic with regards to the offensive line. "This guy absolutely sucks at RT, so lets move him to protecting the QB's blind side. It'll work great!"
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) I applaud this post. Sox fans do not get the credit they deserve. Most look down on them for "not supporting" their team. It's quite the opposite. We have shown that we will support the team if the product is worth supporting. If it's not, we precipitate change with our wallets. In addition to being pissed at tiered (and overpriced) tickets, overpriced parking, and s*** on the field, I think almost everybody is pissed at the mismanagement of both our GM and manager. I think the manager portion of it is hurting ticket sales a bit more though, as Kenny just sucks at his job, whereas Ozzie sucks at his job, and him and his family are downright impossible to like. I hope the fanbase trying to force change at the box office works, because it's pretty clear that is what is going on right now.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Both so true that it sends shivers down my spine. I've already cut my game total down quite a bit this season. If Ozzie and Kenny are both back next year, it will be cut to 0. If Ozzie is back, I'll have a hard time rationalizing going even if Kenny is fired. If Kenny is back and Ozzie is gone, I'll still be very unhappy with our GM, but can at least go back to not being angry at my team personally, so I could probably rationalize going to several games next season. Hopefully, they're both gone. It'd be refreshing as a fan.
  15. I can think of a solid 3 or so GM's who are worse than Kenny Williams. I can't think of a single manager worse than Ozzie Guillen right now. There are times watching games where I am tempted to wonder if he's ever seen a baseball game before. They're both awful, but Ozzie wins based on that.
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) if you think Teahen was the only one who felt this way, you'd be wrong. there's only so much a player can say about their employer while employed. wait until more of the current roster part ways. Some of the stuff said this offseason could be a lot of fun if (1) several players are moved (very possible) (2) Ozzie is fired/traded (also very possible) or (3) both (not impossible).
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) I'm already boycotting them. I go on very rare occasions to see the team in person and hang out with friends because I can't totally quit it (and I only go if the tickets are GREATLY discounted or free for me). But, that's about it. The last few years before this, I was in the 10 to 12 game range in person. I'm not going to be at half that this year. Just not worth the time or money. I'll watch it on tv since I'm a fan just as much as I always do, but I can't go as much as usual based on principle right now. I can't support this manager or GM like that.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Yet another reason Ozzie shoudl go. Kalapse post was the best post and really sums up the sorry state of this organization. Really sad how one man, err, one family, has done so many bad things to the overall organization (sans the 2005 championship). Pathetic. The guy is right up there with Frank McCourt as being complete and utter disgraces to the game of baseball. Maybe it isn't him, but he's the moron letting his kid run around like a complete an utter moron. I really think if the Sox fired Ozzie we'd see this team start to play like the team we expected. I just get the sneaking suspicion a lot of guys want nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz. Couldn't agree more with this, and to add on to what you're saying, I think this year (for the first time) the disgust our fanbase has with the Guillen family is starting to hurt at the box office. Which WILL get Uncle Jerry's attention. I'm still very worried Kenny will be back in 2012. But, while I'm also still worried Ozzie will be, that worry lessens with every passing day, and every stupid moment involving him and/or his family.
  19. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) I wonder if Oney realizes that Katy Perry, the second hottest woman on earth (second only to Jillian Michaels) is a Proactiv spokesperson? "Oney Guillen has a tiny Venezuelan penis."
  20. Putting a salary floor that high in with a summer this short wouldn't have made a lot of sense. I'm a little surprised it won't be in place for 2012, but it might be better to wait until 2013 to let the cheaper teams gradually increase their payroll to that point if they choose to go that route, rather than signing a ton of big deals all at once in 2013.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I've turned completely to the anti Kenny mode. He's the damn GM. He should have control over the roster. He has put together one of the worst offenses imaginable to go with a very good pitching staff. It's his job to have brought up Dayan a f***ing long time ago whether Ozzie wanted him or not. If Jerry is hampering Kenny, then Kenny should resign. Otherwise it's on him to put together a roster that can actually score more than four runs once in a while. Bye bye Kenny. You're aware that Kenny and Ozzie are both awful at their jobs and should be fired right? If anything, Ozzie is worse than Kenny. These are simple concepts.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) Wow, the attendance was only 24k tonight? That's absolutely pathetic. This is a very unhappy fanbase. If only the people in charge seemed to realize that.
  23. I'd have Dunn, KW, and Ozzie in Lewinsky territory. Rios is one level below that right now.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) This is seriously like the 7th or 8th post in this thread that I read and thought "I said this exact same thing a few months ago". White Sox fans: mastering the art of mixing intelligence, humor, and misery. It's hard not to these days.
  25. There's a reason some of us were not against White Flag II. We don't want the Sox to lose, we just understood the recent run was a mirage.
