  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) In all the debate about field turf or natural grass, I have yet to see someone bring up the fact that field turf is terrible in the winter. I can only assume that the people writing all of the articles have never even been on field turf and instead are basing their arguments on google searches. I don't think anybody finds field turf to be an ideal one, just a better one than what the Bears have now. The ideal option would be what Green Bay does with their playing surface, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
  2. On SportsCenter this morning, Bobby Valentine said something about Hawk Harrelson, lights on the scoreboard at old Comiskey Park, and Tony La Russa with regards to cheating. Considering I wasn't born then, and have never heard that story, his comments greatly confused me. Am I missing something, or is Valentine just nuts?
  3. I like the "Done" spelling in the thread title, and am surprised it hasn't been seen more around here. With that said, I'll say Dunn. By a narrow margin.
  4. I'd be pretty surprised if he's not traded to a high payroll team this winter for a small return in order to save us some money. I don't see why moving him now would be smart. You'll get even less for him, and the team is in the race. Matt's obviously not in the same galaxy as he used to be, but I can see why the team would think he can contribute a little down the stretch.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) http://bloghawgs.com/2011/08/09/aggies-to-secede/ They're going to be gone ASAP if the SEC still wants them. I'm not sure if they do, though. So, we'll see. I still think it'll take 3 or 4 years before the Big 12 falls apart.
  6. So was being up 400+ today a correction to losing 600+ yesterday being an overreaction? I don't know much about this stuff, so I'll leave it to you guys.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) The number in this thread was Buehrle money, probably with some inflation in there. I'd actually have called 5/$75 a bargain for him coming into this season, and he probably still can beat that on the open market. Would you do 5/$72 for him (with a small drop due to signing him 1 year before he hits FA)? I really can't answer that without knowing if Buehrle will be here next year, and if he is, how much he'll be paid. Which is part of why this is such a tricky situation.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) who hasn't been a starter since junior college and needs to get stretched out. I think his future lies in the bullpen. He's lights out. If the Sox can agree to a reasonable extension with Danks, I'd be fine with that. I don't see any way that can happen though, he seems to have zero interest in a long-term deal here unless he's paid way more than we seem willing or prepared to.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) He gets a free one though. His name is Chris Sale. Which is exactly why I hope Danks pitches lights out the rest of the way, and can be traded at high value this winter. I really don't see any way he doesn't test the FA market if we keep him until he can, and I don't see any way we can keep him long term.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Maybe Richmond's "advisors" told him that an arrest record makes you more attractive to NBA teams? Well according to Richmond logic, beating a woman and threatening her with a gun (allegedly) is greater than any of our greatest successes.
  11. What a waste Jereme Richmond is, and I'm talking about just basketball. Sad. Still young enough to turn his life around, but it doesn't seem likely.
  12. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Flash back to May 6th. The team is 11-22. fill in the blank with what your thought would have been that day: "I think ______ would be an acceptable winning percentage over the next 80 games" 44-36 feels acceptable to me. Did you expect 50-30? 60-20? I did not feel as though this team was a 100-120 game winner at any point. I felt as though they were a low to mid 90s winner. Which means that 8 over .500 for 80 games is about where they should have been. This is why a lot of us (like me) said the season was over by early May. People hated to hear that, but you have to be outstanding to dig out of a hole like that and we're not.
  13. Can't wait to hear the tapes. If anything, we now know that she had common sense in realizing LBJ did it. I'm a bit surprised it turns out she was kind of a gold digging hoe though.
  14. We'll probably get back to about .500, then crap our pants for a week. It's what this team does. At this point, I'd be surprised if Detroit doesn't win this division by 5 games or more.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Man, for 94 mph, that pitch broke hard I was saying the same thing. That pitch was absolutely filthy, whatever it was.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) I wonder how happy professional athletes are when they manage to get out of Chicago? I can't imagine why a good to great one would ever want to leave. At the same time, I would also think a criticized athlete can't get out fast enough.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) We should be helping. There is nothing good about the government of Syria. We're going to be awfully busy/even more broke if we start helping everybody with a bad government. How bad must it be before we help, too? This needs to be properly defined.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) Tony Campana = very, very, very fast He's the definition of a 1 tool player. Incredibly fast though, for sure.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) He should have been canned years ago. He legitimately should have been fired in late 2006. We're getting into late 2011, and he's still solid as a rock in his position.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) I think Lillibridge got benched for that too. Add Ozzie not knowing he benched Lillibridge to that list too, in that case.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) I want to see a list of the 9 moves that got away, moves that helped KW ruin the franchise. Letting Ozzie Guillen live off of 2005 and keep his job for this long would have to be one of them.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) After 1999 they'd be fools not to expect that possibility. They lost in 1999 because they weren't prepared to eat a season and the Union broke. The Owners went into this lockout knowing that was how things went down last time, so the union now has to prove things are different. They've been telling their players that a lost season was a possibility for a while, now they have to act as if their players listened. Also, if a player is really in true financial distress...the global markets are available in ways they weren't 12 years ago. So it's entirely possible that the union could survive a full year. The bold is exactly why I'd be very surprised if the NBA has a season this year. The only way it will is if the players fold, and there are so many opportunities overseas that I highly doubt they will.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Cubs really might finish with a better record than the Sox this year They might, but only because we could still lose 90 ish games. They're not winning more than into the low 70's.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) That's the union saying "We're ready for the whole season to be lost this time". Well they'd better, because it's going to be.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) That'll teach him!!! Soxtalk could have fun with this one. I can't decide what part of that quote is better: that he benched Rios for TWO GAMES or that on this team of abominations, Rios is the only guy he's benched for lack of hustle.
