QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:25 AM) Illinois has to beat Wisconsin for a BCS game. I think they likely go to Champs Sports and the loser of the CCG may get a BCS bid. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the 2011 Illinois season looks extremely similar to the 2010 Michigan State season when all is said and done. A random loss could come at any moment with Zook as coach, though. I will say in Illinois' defense today that Western Michigan is a better team than most people realize, and past Illinois teams would've lost that game. But that still should've been a two touchdown win. Also, through 3 full games. Robert Griffin of Baylor has more touchdown passes (13) than incompletions (12) and interceptions (0) combined. Not sure I've ever heard of a stat quite like that. -

I'd be very surprised if Illinois doesn't win their division if they beat Wisconsin. Admittedly, that's VERY unlikely, but they do have them at home. I'd also be quite surprised if Illinois wins less than 8 regular season games. The program is making progress right now. They'll never be elite under Coach Zook (at least not overall, they can scatter in occasional outstanding seasons), but if they're winning 8 games, people are going to be happy. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) How so? There are a limited number of good innings left in that overused arm IMO. Every inning Mark can avoid throwing should be taken advantage of at this point in his career. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Ozzie is all talk, has been for years. If you're ever going to retaliate tonight would have been the perfect time, you literally have nothing to lose. It's very frustrating. I've been saying that for a long time now, and I believe you have been too. Ozzie is all bark and no bite.
-
The day Ozzie was hired. Heck, even going back to his interview for the job. The problems were masked by a 2nd year World Series, a 90 win 3rd year (which, combined with being defending champs, kept KW and Oz quiet) and a 5th year division title. The last 3 years really haven't had anything to mask the problems that have always been there, and they really reached the point of no return in 2010, even though the break won't happen until after the 2011 season. This ending should surprise nobody.

I wish Mark wasn't a free agent, and we could have just shut him down a week or two ago, as it would've been in the best interests of all. -
If Florida is going to do even half of the stuff in free agency they're rumored to be interested in doing, I see no reason why Ozzie would want to stay here.

Does anybody have links for more info on the Boise State scandal? Quite frankly, I really don't like their program AT ALL, but haven't been able to find things like 75 guys involved in pay for play out there anywhere. I would love to have such links, though. I know some Boise fans, and I'd love to show such information in their faces. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:01 AM) I know people in our society think of dogs very highly. But IMO, the well being of a human being is exponentially more important. Vick paid his dues, people shouldn't be wishing harm upon him anymore, doing so just makes you out to be less humane. He MORE THAN paid his dues. He went to jail for what he did longer than just about anybody else does for similar crimes. I love dogs, and have lived in houses with them for the majority of my life. And I'm not asking anybody to like Michael Vick. But people are a bit overly harsh on him IMO. -

I thought coming into the season that Illinois was about an 8 win team based on their offense and schedule. But that defense played a very good game last night against a pretty good offense. Even with some of the losses after last season, it still isn't short on talent. I think Illinois, realistically, could finish 2nd in the Leaders Division. They get their 3 toughest Big 10 opponents at home, and Northwestern and Minnesota are two of the crossover games. Short of swapping Penn State as a road game and Northwestern as a home game, they couldn't possibly have an easier road schedule, either. -

Complete punk move by Mayweather. Legal, but punk. He was clearly nervous Ortiz could beat him, because he wouldn't waste his time doing something like that if he wasn't. Just glad I found the fight for free online rather than pay for it. Only way I'd ever pay for a fight is if Mayweather had the balls to fight Pac-Man, but he never will. Oh well. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 01:07 AM) How many years of college football have you watched? It's extremely rare to see a number of BCS undefeateds, let alone more than 1 in the SEC. The SEC is down this year in terms of depth. The fine people in Bristol won't admit it, but look at the teams. Also, look at the schedules. Alabama will be comfortably favored in every game left, South Carolina will be in every game left except 1, and LSU will be in every game except two (with one of those being next week, and I don't think West Virginia is capable of beating them to be honest). I'd be very surprised if there isn't at least 1 undefeated team in the SEC Title Game, and I'd also be very surprised if this isn't the 3rd year in a row with two undefeated teams in the BCS Title Game. -

All LSU has to do is avoid turnovers on offense and they'll win every game on their schedule except at Alabama due to that defense. I actually think LSU has a better defense than Alabama (Alabama has more NFL prospects, but I think LSU has a better unit). However, Alabama's offense is ahead of LSU's ,and the only way I could see LSU winning at Alabama is if they can win the turnover battle by 2 or 3. The winner of LSU/Alabama will go to Atlanta 12-0 IMO, which is interesting because I think it's very possible South Carolina will be 12-0 headed to Atlanta. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I know, right? I'm crazy, what can I say. BTW, I'm still not buying that Ozzie is gone until Ozzie is gone. I feel like this organization wants to torture me as much as possible and I really do still believe that Ozzie will be back next season. I haven't been to a game since late April, and I won't be at one again until either Ozzie or Kenny is gone. Quite frankly, both have to go, but I can at least justify going (albeit, not all that happily) if one is fired. Although, if Kenny were to be fired and Ozzie kept, I'm not sure what I'd do because that would mean Ozzie is running the organization. As for a manager, just stuff that has been mentioned. A guy who values outs, treats the other teams best players like they're good, and doesn't make himself into the story. Also, in an organization sense (this includes the manager), I'd like to see young hitters look like they are actually coached. Hasn't been a lot of that in recent years.

I really thought Miguel Olivo was going to be one of the top 5, if not top 3, best catches in baseball for a decade when he first came up. So while he's been a solid player, and while I wasn't mad when we traded him because of what came back, I'd put him here. In a similar boat, Willie Harris has had a nice career but I thought he'd play in a few All Star Games and be a long term starter. I remember being pissed about Tadahito originally because it would take away from Willie's playing time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Can I ignore both? of course you can, it's a completely irrelevant story. I just find the thought of that stuff happening funny.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Not sure where to post this, but according to the National Enquirer (hey, they were right about John Edwards), a new book by Joe McGinnis (hey, he was right about [?]) will claim that before she was married, Sarah Palin consumed non-white Rice. Also, she allegedly used to really like the snow up there in Alaska. http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/...-mcginnis-rogue I love how everybody is just ignoring the cocaine part because of how fun the Glen Rice part is. Honestly, neither would surprise me (ESPECIALLY the Glen Rice thing). QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) I will campaign/vote for Obama if Huntsman wins the GOP nomination. Haha while I'm sure this is hyperbolic, I'm tempted to do the same if Huntsman (well, I guess or Newt) DOESN'T win.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Dude's put on a fair amount of weight. It's really hard not to if you have a bad back. Unless your metabolism is superior. Anyways, I hope Joe figures out a way to get rid of that back pain. Reading/seeing this story actually made me sad. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) Oh ya definitely, I was just talking about the AL there. As I already said in the MLB catch all, besides whoever is playing Boston, the Brewers are my adopted team come the postseason. Yep. Hope the Yankees lose, hope the Phillies lose more, and REALLY hope the Red Sox lose.

Who is your guy for the GOP nomination?
whitesoxfan101 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
Want: Huntsman. He and Newt (who I'd also be ok with, although I definitely don't like him as much as Huntsman) are the only people in this race I don't find a bit scary. Will: Romney. Perry wouldn't surprise me, but I'm hoping the party hasn't shifted as far right/as far in the direction of liking stupid candidates as it looks like they have. Actually, to be fair, I wouldn't lump Romney into the "scary" category like I would the other candidates besides Newt and Huntsman. But I REALLY don't trust Romney, and that's a big problem. With that in mind, I have no freaking idea what I'm going to do in November of 2012. -
Speigel vs Cowley on WSCR
whitesoxfan101 replied to Swingandalongonetoleft's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've never liked Speigel, but his point here is 100 percent right. Cowley is basically Ozzie's PR agent, getting fed info from Oney and Ozzie, disguised as a journalist. It's embarrassing for Cowley, and quite frankly, I don't see how he's relevant in this town as a writer anymore once Ozzie is gone, which is hopefully soon. But the way Speigel handled this sounds wrong. This is something you bring up with Cowley off the air before bringing it to the show, and it sounds like he didn't do that. Speigel is the one with the accurate point, but neither party wins here. As far as I'm concerned, put Cowley, Ozzie, Kenny, and Speigel on the same train out of town. They can sort out their problems in a tag team match. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Would Hahn spurn the Sox offer and take Cubs job instead? Yes, unless Kenny and Ozzie are both fired. I don't think Hahn would take the Sox job over the Cubs if he's forced to keep Ozzie or if Kenny is kept as a President type (or both). If both are fired and Hahn is given free reign, I think he'd stay here as GM instead of going to the Cubs as a sign of loyalty. I still don't think the Cubs will even offer Hahn their GM job though. -
Greg's act is annoying, but not worth getting upset about. And I know it's an act because no sensible person could actually believe what he says. Not even worth paying attention to him.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:00 AM) Badger, do you REALLY think giving the players more would stop them from taking other money? Hell no it wouldn't. These kids aren't taking stuff because they have no money. They take it because its offered and it is a materialistic, selfish world. To say they don't take stuff because they don't have money is a laughable notion. Do a lot of players take stuff just because it is offered? Of course they do. But to pretend economic background doesn't play a role in some of these kids taking benefits is 1000% wrong.
