  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) It may be a "Stupid reason to cover it up" to our eyes, but remember, these programs are huge money-makers and that has only gotten more true over the past decade. Covering it up = keeping the money train rolling. Exactly. I'd also like to point out that in both 2005 and 2008, Penn State was 1 play from the National Championship Game in football. They had a down streak in the early 2000's, but it's still a mega elite program.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) No they dont. The deadline has changed, and the players have changed their percentage to favor the Owners everytime the deadline has changed. The owners have been slowly grinding out the players, and soon Stern is going to say "f*** you all, we are going to get 47 percent and you are going to like it. And if you dont like it, we will wait you out" The players originally wanted nothing less than 54 percent, then 52.5, then 52, 51, now they are at 50. Yeah, the owners aren't going to cave again here. If the players say no, it's almost assuredly decertification/armageddon time.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) I didn't say I think he'd be doing it on his own. But if he was really recruiting for PSU, with McQueary working alongside him, then that absolutely means that not only did everyone at PSU cover this up, but it means that they actively used him for their benefit, meanwhile, placing him around other male minors. Up until now it's only been stated that he has been seen around campus, etc., but nothing where you could really say PSU continued to use him in their employ. And not only did they use him in their employ, but they continued to do so in a way so as to place him near more minors. That is a pretty huge nail in their coffin, if you ask me, and yet this news station seems to have no clue of the importance of the story they are breaking. Which is really the only reason I questioned whether Sandusky was actually recruiting on behalf of PSU still. Ahh, alright. Well I completely agree with you here. I can't even imagine how more ugly this is going to be if that part of the story is true.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) Gee, whiz, thanks Balta. My point was I want to see someone actually point out that Sandusky is representing PSU and not just out on some perverted trip of his own. Just because he's paying HS kids a visit and asking them to go to PSU doesn't mean he's recruiting for PSU. You think he'd just be doing that on his own?! Almost impossible. The most amazing thing about this is McQueary is their recruiting coordinator. So he knew the guy he saw rape a child in the shower 9 years ago was still recruiting for the school, if this recruit in South Carolina is telling the truth. And what motivation would he have to lie?
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) That will only happen if there is an NCAA violation and sanctions are brought against PSU. If not, they wont let the kids leave. Already their recruiting class has lost a few players including their top ranked guy. I'm sure it will get worse. Oh I know it will never happen. I don't think the NCAA will even end up involved in this, unless Sandusky recruiting for them the last however many years like you have mentioned was illegal.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) players are getting under my skin now. They should have taken 51%. They won't get a deal more than 50% anymore. They will start to dissect. They are giving up millions. Sigh. I thought there would be no season a long time ago, but I thought that because I never thought the players would get an offer this good. For the most part, this process has been on the owners IMO, but I'm starting to shift to it being the players fault with how it has turned recently.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) I dont think its fair to the kids or the fans, but yeah, I think everyone is going to be rooting for Nebraska. And I know the Big Ten is going to be rooting for PSU not to make it to the title game. More and more details are going to come out. Sandusky also adopted 6 children, was his sexual crimes limited to other people's kids? I agree entirely with you, but after watching the Happy Valley reaction to Paterno being fired, I honestly don't give a s*** about their fans.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) I can understand this sentiment, but on this one...I'm going to assume it's not the players' fault. The scary thing is that some of them might well have met Sandusky during recruiting visits, even while they were high schoolers. Oh absolutely, the players are not at fault here. Maybe a more fair way to do it is finish the season, let the players have the USC thing where they can transfer without penalty (aka they can play anywhere in 2012), and then not let Penn State have games in 2012. It just....to me, they should lose games for this.
  9. Should Penn State even be playing Saturday/the rest of this season? I'd honestly lean towards no. I'm not upset that they're playing because it would be unfair to the players on that team that have nothing to do with this to not play. But it just feels wrong, and I hope they lose.
  10. Saw on Twitter that Danny Granger (Pacers player rep) says early indications are this deal is going to be rejected by the players. And if he's right (this is me editorializing), there probably isn't going to be a season.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) people are social animals. there is no way this little secret stayed between Paterno, McQueary, Spanier, Curley, Schultz and McQueary's dad. hell, when Sandusky was barred from bringing the second mile kids to campus, someone within the organization had to ask why. Even though you want this whole process to play out SB, and you want to not believe in this audatious conspiracy theory, there is no doubt here that there was a large coordinated coverup. now, the question remains, Why? Why is hiding a sexual predator so much better than delivering him to the police or FBI? It goes way past "Paterno was his friend and didnt want to believe it", because multiple other people who werent close friends with Sandusky also covered it up. I think one thing that is clear here is that a large coverup happened. I'm not sure how anybody could think it didn't. Why? My guess is because they thought they could get away with it. And for a long time, they did. They figured it was better to keep the pristine name of Penn State than to admit their legendary defensive coordinator destroyed kids lives by raping them. Even if they had admitted it RIGHT AWAY, the name of Penn State would've still taken a hit. So they covered it up, and made Penn State more important than children's welfare. But, as we're seeing once again, covering things up only makes them worse. Honestly, why else would they cover this up?
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) False. Head to head Yeah, that's how every conference with divisions does it, from the SEC to the MAC and everyone in between. It's why the head to head games are so massively important if between two teams expected to finish near the top of the division. The fun part with division titles is a three team tie, especially if all three teams have a 1-1 record against each other.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) This isnt the same Carcillo I saw in Philly He's actually a very nice player to have if he can stay away from stupid penalties. The reason I was against the signing this summer was I didn't think that's possible, but after watching him a few games, I have reasonable hope the Hawks have drilled that into his head enough that he'll be able to. I don't think I can emphasize how well the Hawks played tonight. Phoenix isn't some group of bums, and outside of a defensive brainfart in front of the net and a Duncan Keith blowout, the Coyotes showed no signs all night. The power play has not looked as in tune as I'd like to see, but even there I have hope as Brunette really seems willing to accept the role as traffic guy in front. Very pleased with the first five games for the Hawks. They came out a little slow at Dallas and had a bad 3rd period against Boston, but that's about it.
  14. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 01:37 AM) Really impressed with Peppers today. He played a great game in the rush and against the run, and went the whole game on an injury that most people thought would have him sitting. Guy has actually lived up to that contract big time here so far, great addition. He played awesome, and with a sprained MCL! The fact that he was even able to play with a sprained MCL, let alone play very well, is miraculous considering what we've learned about it in 2011. On a more serious note, it was good to see the Bears just not waste time beating up on a bad team tonight. The game next week should be interesting. Tampa Bay is an interesting team to say the least considering they were absolutely annihilated by San Francisco last week, only to beat New Orleans and hold them to just 20 points this week.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) The Cubs do this on a regular basis. Remember Andy McFAIL was going to bring that Twins magic to the Northside? Then there was Jim Hendy to save them. Don Baylor of 103 win fame? No problem. Lou Pinella the World Champion? Yeah, no match for the Cubs. Go ahead bring in Theo. He'll end up on the scrap heap with the rest of them. MacPhail, like Theo, won two World Series as GM in his 30's. And he did it in freaking Minnesota. Theo is a very good hire for the Cubs if they get him. But he's not the first talented guy to try and fix that place. If he takes the job, he'll definitely get them better, but consider me not worried.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) He's such an important part of the roster. He's one of the best two-way forwards we've had, and he's great on the penalty kill. When Bolland is around, we have three awesome lines. When he's out, our third line goes to s***. I'm not going to say Bolland is our best player, because he's obviously not. But, I do think he's the Blackhawks most important player. Like you said, it impacts the entire team when he's not in there. I personally think he will win the Selke Trophy this year (and if I'm wrong about this year, very soon after) if he can stay healthy.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) The time management of this team is horrendous. That's always been something that has plagued this coaching staff, especially this season. How many times has Cutler come to the sideline annoyed that he can't get the play off since he doesn't have the play call on time? And it is on Jerry Angelo. The fact that he couldn't go out and sign some big pieces to the O-line is inexcusable. Well, what you mentioned is more on Martz. But Lovie hired him! I loved the coming out to go for it on 4th and 1 (wrong decision), burn a timeout (stupid), STILL make the wrong decision on 4th and 1, predictably get stuffed, then completely waste a challenge/another timeout when he was clearly short sequence. Outstanding.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) You gotta love it when super rich people argue over large sums of money like they're poor or something. It's hard to side with the players when the majority of the owners are losing money and when the NBA has some of the most screwed up contracts in all of sports. It's both sides fault. People love to just blame one side, but usually, the truth lies in the middle. The players are not willing to give enough back considering so many teams are losing a ton of money, and the owners are trying to get back way more than is realistic. Nobody is willing to budge and look like the loser.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) I'd love to hear your argument as to why you don't consider Lovie a good coach because he clearly is. 56% winning percentage, two NFC championship game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance despite having terrible offensive personnel his entire tenure with the Bears. Lovie is a pretty good coach IMO. Far from great, but overall slightly above average. He was TERRIBLE tonight though. A stupid 4th and 1 call, a stupid challenge, 3 timeouts in the 1st quarter (although that was the offense, but it still comes back to the head coach), big plays galore being allowed by his defense specifically designed to stop big plays. At the end of the day though, this is on Jerry Angelo. This defense is old, bad, and washed up right now. He hasn't done a good enough job infusing young talent on that side of the ball to go with the aging starters. And the offense is just laughable beyond Forte and Cutler. They've played 5 games, and already have NO shot at finishing higher than 3rd in the NFC North and 6th in the NFC as a whole.
  20. I didn't say nobody cares. I would assume big enough fans to post in an NBA thread on a message board care. But the number of people that care is very low. Soxfest is dead on with the NBA not being a pimple on the NFL's ass, and in saying both sides are overplaying their hands here. I mean, I'd love to see the NBA lockout end tomorrow, but it isn't going to, and the whole thing is ridiculous. I predicted a long time ago the whole season would end up lost, but we'll see if both sides are actually dumb enough to take a leap THAT large.
  21. The Cardinals throwing at Fielder because they were pissy Braun hit a 9,000 foot home run typifies why I want the Brewers to win this series. All the Cardinals do is b**** and moan and get offended by everything. Good start tonight.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) I've said it before, but as much as I'd like to root for the Brewers, I feel like they would become unbearable and full of themselves if they won. They for sure would. And that's EXACTLY why I hope they win. The Cub fans get b****y enough about the arrogance of St. Louis, lets give them another team that chirps a lot to deal with!
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) When it's all said and done, people are going to say that KW was, at one point, a very good GM and that he got caught up in making splashes and "flying under the radar" so much that it overtook his baseball acumen and ruined his ability to be a GM. Kenny is the guy that kept hitting two face cards or blackjack at the table, didn't know when to slow down a bit with his big winnings, and then lost all of his money as the 8-7 draws started showing up.
  24. I hope the NBA understands that very few people give a f*** about their lockout. People care when the NFL locks out because it's the kingpin. People care when baseball locks out because it's the only sport going on during the summer and it has such a long history in our country. The NBA has football to deal with as competition into January. It has the NCAA Tournament in March. It has baseball in the spring. It even has hockey, which is growing, in the picture. Not to mention that the NBA regular season feels like the least meaningful of the 4 major sports since several teams who make the playoffs every year have no shot at doing anything in them (although that wasn't as much the case last year, but it generally is.) They don't seem to realize how much damage every lost game will do. It's not surprising, but it's ridiculous it has come to this after all the success the league had last year.
  25. Go Texas. I really don't have a problem with them, and I can always get behind rooting for Detroit to fail. This series is going to come down to how Detroit does in the Verlander games. Must win them to win the series, because Texas is a better overall team IMO.
