Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Ranger hinted on Facebook his loathing of a certain columnist. Didn't name Joe, but, pretty sure that is who he meant. Ranger is an ass, but Cowley is a far, far bigger ass. So I'm actually going to side with Ranger for once. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) You hate that Fisk has one? He was one of the best catchers of all time, he's in the hall of fame. Or do you hate it because he only played 60% of his career with the White Sox? You don't deserve a statue if the hat on your HOF plaque has a different logo IMO. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) So the question is, will Sandy be good? My answer: Yes. If the players perform. It's a players game. Then why even have a manager? Let Paulie make out the lineup, and Buehrle do pitching changes (if he comes back).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) The other article just quotes Cowley as it's source. So it's just Joe. I have a hard time believing it, but I suppose it is possible. Chuck Garfien shot that down on Twitter. Anything Cowley says not involving Ozzie is outright made up in all likelihood. Heck, if it's about Ozzie it STILL is made up often times. -
I saw Catching Hell this summer. It's actually pretty good. Too much Boston stuff in it, but still good. It definitely portrayed the Cubs fans in the negative light they deserve IMO.

The Kane at center thing is a ploy (to motivate Kruger to play better or the front office to trade for a center), or something they'll only do for a couple/few games. Q isn't stupid, he won't do that longer than maybe a week.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Let me add a few more phrases/details..."Quick release" and "Quick reaction when a receiver becomes open". From the first 3 games, I have not been impressed with Cutler on those qualities. Ahh I see. I will simply say this about Cutler: he's not being put in the best position to succeed by his organization. The offense doesn't suit his strengths, and the players surrounding him aren't good enough. I still don't think Jay Cutler is as good as he was advertised to be when the Bears acquired him, but he's not getting the help he needs to maximize the skills he does have either. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I'm bewildered that Cowley is employed. Most Sox bloggers provide better objective insight. Don't worry about Cowley. He'll be working in Miami soon enough, and we won't have to worry about his crap anymore.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Phil was an employee of another franchise until last year. He deserves at least what Pippen got, his bust somewhere in the UC. Absolutely. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) I'm just sick of my own school's name dragged through the mud by those hacks on topcis like cars that were cleared as legit and above board, and then they actually go and sue the university for no real reason. Yet every SEC story is buried if written at all, the top story is on how they should allow the SEC to completely fill all BCS bowls. ESPN has had it out for the Big Ten since the day BTN launched. If a sniff of anything comes up with other Big Ten schools, you'll see them get the same treatment from ESPN. They're a marketing/promotional enterprise looking for ratings. Nothing more. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) Where's the Phil Jackson statue? He worked for Reinsdorf and won quite a few titles. Uncle Jerry doesn't love Phil anywhere near as much as he loves Ozzie. -

Anybody who doesn't think Ozzie Guillen will get a statue someday doesn't know Jerry Reinsdorf. As long as Ozzie keeps his mouth shut about us, he'll get his statue. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) it's not just Martz with that though, quick and precise while in the pocket is pretty much where every QB is being forced to go these days. I agree with your general point. But I disagree totally with the idea that the Martz offense is quick. It's VERY precise, as precise as an offense can be. But it's not quick at all. The Martz offense is about 5 to 7 step drops and multiple receivers with an extensive series of route trees. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) Unemployed father of two Trent Richarson has owned 120k worth of cars this year. Dont worry, it wont make it onto the news will it ESPN? I can't even get mad about these things. What we've all known for years (everybody is cheating, the only difference between schools is how much they're cheating) is now obvious. ESPN is going to avoid negative SEC coverage at all costs, though. That league makes them too much money, and they're too busy promoting how great it is, to have such an open discussion. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Buddy said he wasnt interested. That's a relief. Every other name I've heard mentioned so far, I'd be fine with. There's a long list of things that need to be fixed beyond the manager, and we at least need to get this move right.
-
Saddened and anxious at the moment. I'm generally just unsure though. The organization's future is really going to be decided this winter in a lot of ways, and I'm afraid how it will look. I'm happy Ozzie is gone, but I'm not excited about the franchise at all right now. We still look to be in pretty bad shape.

I have no problem with Coop staying. He's widely regarded as an elite pitching coach, and I don't think keeping him will kill our chances with any potential candidates. Baines staying is ehh...whatever. I don't think that will hurt our chances with anybody either. I'm going to lose my mind if they hire Buddy Bell as manager though. He's the only guy we could hire (that I can think of) which would be worthy of getting pissed off about. That would be a disaster IMO. As close to status quo as possible.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) That's an excellent take. I respect your comments about KW. I couldn't agree more. If Sox can't resign Mark, that should be the death knoll for KW with this franchise. Unacceptable to ruin the pay structure of the team where you can't pay a legend. As far as I'm concerned, the death knell for KW should be the Rios and Peavy moves. You can't do things like that, miss the playoffs, and keep your job as GM. And I'm going to be in full attack dog mode on KW from now on. He's next on the s*** list of people that really have no business being here anymore.

Ozzie Guillen Released from Contract
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I heard the Hawk interview. I wouldn't go as far as to say he ripped on him, but he made it quite clear that this move needed to happen. He seemed to think that Ozzie hasn't had the same excitement for the job the last few years. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:35 AM) The other 2 are much better candidates imo. Tito obviously is. I think if he's available, the Sox will go all in for him. But I'm not sure if he will be. I also think Dave Martinez is a better guy, but I don't know if the Sox would hire somebody so SABR-influenced.

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall". -Proverbs 16:18 I think that best sums up what led to the final fate of Ozzie Guillen today, as well as some of the issues Kenny Williams has had, and what has led to the failures of our organization recently. "This town ain't big enough for the two of us" was a saying invented with guys like the current versions of Kenny and Ozzie in mind. I think Ozzie will do a good job in Miami, and as much as I think Kenny Williams should be fired, he won't. And while I feel this organization can't get back to where it needs to until Kenny is also gone, I think Ozzie being gone will do a lot of good for him. It's a shame the egos and pride of the two men got in the way of the team recently, because I think they are both still capable of doing a good job. I'll miss Ozzie. He had to go, but I'll miss him. My first Sox memories involved him at shortstop, he was the bleepity bleep manager for our first World Champion in almost 9 decades, and his craziness kept things interesting. But this move had to happen. I wish the other move that has to happen would happen now as well. But, since it's not, I'll just hope this gives KW's career with us a second wind.

My dream? Terry Francona My guess? Sandy Alomar Jr. I'd like to see Dave Martinez hired though, assuming Tito isn't canned for the Red Sox collapse, or if they make the playoffs.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) Dude you gotta lay off the twitter. Things change faster on there than they do in real life. I mostly agree. I don't think you have to lay off the Twitter (the Ozzie stuff was first on there tonight, and dead on) though as much as you have to know what you're reading and who is saying it. -

Have Hawk and Stoney addressed the Ozzie stuff at all? -
Realistically, the Rays need to get that down to 1 game going into the final 3 if they want a shot. Ideally, they tie up the race tomorrow though. It'll be interesting to see how Braves/Cardinals plays out as well. Atlanta is still in great shape, but they have to be feeling the pressure. That's a potential choke that is being largely ignored due to all of the attention Boston and Tampa Bay are getting.
