  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) So there is a GM out there thinking... "if only Contreras's era was half a run lower... I'd totally trade for him." Yeah, I am sure he isn't looking at things like his velocity, his arm slot, and the lack of movement on his pitches... Nope it has to be the ERA. Hey for once I totally agree with you here, and the sarcastic point you make in this post about the ERA bulls***. Stop the presses!!
  2. http://test.denverpost.com/sports/ci_6434030','231 This is a classic case of an article that somehow buries a glaring lead. Well Mr. Stern, the man who orchestrated the idea of the NBA Draft Lottery and the Ewing frozen envelope, WHY was this guy reffing games after January? Why was allowed to be the ref of five PLAYOFF games, including the epically poor officiated game 3 of the Spurs/Suns series, when you had already known for 3 months plus at that point that Donaghy had the FBI on his ass? That is just plain sickening.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) Tell Art Bell I said "hi'" Aww an obsure UFO reference is all you got? I thought you'd actually defend this move. I'm disappointed.
  4. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) Look at Hinske's Fenway hitting chart for GB and Singles. On the season he has hit one ground ball and one single to the left side. It wasn't dumb, it just didn't work this time. That's fine, but WHY did they keep the shift on after Hinske gave his hand away and bunted the first pitch foul. Hinske is awful, and that was a spot where they needed a baserunner to help roll the lineup over in good shape. To not shift the defense back to a conventional format after the first pitch failed bunt is mind numbingly stupid. And then of course there was the 8th inning....
  5. Our new megacenter here at NIU is just about done being built behind the dorm side end zone and will be ready for the home opener. Our football facilities have been garbage for years, but this place should help recruiting and will improve the facilities tenfold. It's pretty damn big and has brand new and large locker rooms, a huge weight room area, all kinds of meeting rooms, more media accesible rooms, more training and conditioning areas for injured players, improved video equipment, awesome entry tunnel, bronze Huskie statue, and even a library and study area. It looks pretty damn good and is great for the program, can't wait to see it on the day of the home opener. Here is a pic of the AAPC taken a couple days ago. Besides all the improvements in general I mentioned, it just looks a million times better behind the dorm end zone now than it did before when it was either the small party deck areas or the covered old bleachers:
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Yep, and I was disgusted before Contreras threw a single pitch in the 8th inning. Indeed, I started this thread long before the 8th inning even started. It's just the 8th inning sent tonight's game from an epic in terms of how bad a job he did to an all timer in the history of sports in terms of how bad a job he did.
  7. That was the worst managed/coached game I've ever seen in any sport. I've seen worse individual moves, but overall I've never seen a worse game. I honestly wonder if Ozzie either wants to be fired or bet on the Red Sox.
  8. Go to hell Ozzie. The other thread explains things beyond that. Wow.
  9. Oh it got even better in the 8th with the sac fly, hit by pitch, and grand slam for the epic Julio Lugo. Finally, after the grand slam and 10 runs he takes out Contreras. That was laughable, it's like he tried to do the worst job possible.
  10. AND NOW he leaves Jose in for the 8th to face the heart of the order. Manny singles, J.D. doubles, 2nd and 3rd 0 outs. Hell, keep him in for Lowell too, Jose is not tired! And a walk, bases loaded 0 outs!! LEAVE HIM IN FOREVER OZ!!
  11. The scouts at this game aren't going to be ripping Count. He hasn't pitched a bad game at all, if not for his dumbass manager, this could be a different story to say the least. He's he decent stuff in these 6 innings too. And NOW the shift isn't on, and hey the great Hinske makes an out!! Too late Ozzie. Dumbass.
  12. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Because we have a game thread for this and with the site problems, I doubt the site needs a thread as useless as this one. We all know it was a huge f*ck up. It will be defended by some of the heirarchy around here, so I doubt it's locked. They'll come in and say Ozzie brought us a ring, I wouldn't be complaining if Hinske had bunted into a double play, etc.
  13. HAWK AND D.J. were even going nuts ripping the move. That is all you need to know here.
  14. So they supershift a guy hitting .198, dumb. Then he bunts it foul, showing you what's going on, dumber. FINALLY, you don't go back to a regular defense and Hinske gets to the mendoza line with the free single to the somehow STILL wide open left side, dumbest. Defend this one, Ozzie fans! That's in effect 4 free runs and a possible loss due to our pathetic, inexcuseable manager.
  15. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) What was the play with Hinske? Gameday just says single on bunt. Hinske bunts it foul with the shift on and the left side open. And our PATHETIC manager says take the free hit and leaves the shift on, and he gets a free bunt single on the 2nd pitch. All that so you can shift a loser like Erik Hinske. That's maybe the dumbest managerial move I have ever seen.
  16. Thanks for the loss Ozzie!! Where are the idiots that call him a good manager. Guys?
  17. Charlotte leads 4-3 at Scranton/Wilkes Barre in the 5th. Broadway on the hill. Birmingham hosting Chattanooga, 0-0 in the 2nd. Ryan Wing on the bump. Winston-Salem is hosting Myrtle Beach for a doubleheader, but the start is being delayed by rain. Kanny trails 6-2 at Charleston in the 6th, game delayed by rain right now. Rasner hit hard. Red hot Great Falls is at Ogden, 8 PM start. Bristol with a doubleheader today as well, hosting Bluefield. They won game one by a 1-0 count in "extra" innings (nine). Po-Yu Lin threw a gew, 8.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 4 hits, with 5 k's and 2 walks. Had 10 air outs and 10 groundouts. However he got the no decision, as Tollefson got the last 2 outs of the top of the 9th and Bristol won it in the bottom half. Game 2 to come...
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 07:35 AM) WTF??? Correct, he had a great game that day and was having a GIGANTIC year at triple a. BTW, in his first game with the big club the other day, he scored the winning run in the 10th inning for the Tigers at Minnesota. The legend grows.
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) 3 minutes of searching on Google, and you find that the infamous 2002 game 6 was reffed by #27 Dick Bavetta , #16 Ted Bernhardt , and #26 Bob Delaney. So? I doubt this ref today is the only one doing this stuff, he's just the only one (so far) to get caught.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) I also knew that all the Kings/Lakers series were fixed. I never had any real evidence or vindication, but it was always in the back of my mind. Remember when Doug Christie's chin fouled Kobe's elbow? Yeah. That's the play a lot of people remember. Game 6 was the worst though, Lakers shot 27 free throws in the 4th quarter alone, Vlade fouled out, Pollard fouled out, Webber had 5 fouls, and Shaq had 4 and was never really in any foul trouble, so the Lakers 5 field goals made to the Kings 10 in the 4th quarter of a game that was tied after 3 wasn't enough. And no, I don't know that off hand, I am reading off the box score and recap in the nba.com archives.
  21. I'm more concerned about Sweeney's average, on base, and defense. His power is what it is, I'm hoping he can be a higher on base/average guy and good defender.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) What else have you known for years? Umm.....that's about it.
  23. First of all, the ref is Tim Donaghy: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2943095 Second of all, check this out: I KNEW IT!! I've said for 3 years it was impossible for somebody to catch, turn in mid air, and shoot in 0.4 seconds. I'm sure there is more to come, but that is no surprise. So this guy cost the Spurs a trip to the NBA Finals and perhaps another title. Yikes.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) In particular I always thought the Sacto-Lakers game was fixed that went into overtime where Mike Bibby was basically punched in the face by Kobe to get the ball back, and no foul was called. It was pretty hard to watch the rest of the game(which was over shortly thereafter). QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) I've thought game 6 of LA/Sacto back in, when was it, 01, was fixed since I watched it. Game in Sacto, but the Kings wind up with 3x as many fouls called on them as the Lakers, thus managing to guarantee a game 7. It was game 6 of the West Finals in 2002 at Staples Center, LA and Sacramento indeed. That was the most obviously fixed game I've ever seen and I've been saying that since the moment that game ended. The NBA obviously wanted that to go 7 games or it wouldn't have.
