MARK BUEHRLE HAS PITCHED A NO-HITTER!
whitesoxfan101 replied to ShoeLessRob's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Mark, thank you. This has been as bad a 3 days as I've had in years, and you did about the only thing that could cheer me up. And also, congrats to Mark, he's been a horse for us for years, he deserves it. -
33 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting
whitesoxfan101 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in SLaM
Apparently, the one person that was in critical condition has died, so the total would be 34 if you include the gunman. Hopefully this isn't true, but facebook has been spot on so far so I'd assume it is. -

33 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting
whitesoxfan101 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in SLaM
Well, now that I was finally able to talk to my buddy at VT more (keep him in your prayers, he was actually at the spot where that now imfamous video was taken 5 minutes earlier and heard gunfire, so he's a bit shaken up), it seems like this couldn't have been prevented. But this is also just confusing as hell, I have no idea how they will sort all this out. What a horrible trajedy though, i'm terrified of seeing the list of 33, as one of my better friends might have a friend or two on it it sounds like . -

This one hits me especially hard, as one of my best friends from HS goes to Virginia Tech. Fortunately he's alright, but he's not sure about all of his friends yet. Regardless, prayers are sent out, there is not much more that can be said with something this horrible. -

If you want to "win her over" than you have to miss out on the "in between fun" you would otherwise get. If you mess around with her, she's going to lose respect for you in terms of anything other than a fun buddy. You only chance to win her over would be to be caring about the situation she's in and more of a friend to her tonight than anything else. If you do that and do it well, she might see her boyfriend as the clown that she decided to take a break with and give you a shot instead (of course, part of it is how long have those 2 been together). Just my 2 cents, though, so take it FWIW. If her and her boy had been together for a while, your chances are minimal no matter what, maybe your better off just having some fun with her like she wants to happen.

Juan has shortened his swing a lot like he did during that amazing run he had the first couple of months of 2004, hence the great start (at least based on what i've seen). He's never going to walk at all, but if he can consistently keep that swing short (and thus see the ball further in and go the other way sometimes), he's a much better hitter.

Is the Sox-Cubs rivalry the same for non-Chicagoans?
whitesoxfan101 replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Part of getting more excited for the Cubs, for me, is that we only play them 6 times though, as opposed to the 19 against our division rivals. I get more excited probably for the Red Sox and Yanks than I do even division games too, it's the fun of playing teams you don't like only 6 or 7 times instead of 19 that creates some drama IMO. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) What are people thinking on Matsuzaka in the long run? Seems to me that most pitchers who come over from Japan or Korea have a habit of being virtually unhittable for a short period, like one or maybe 2 seasons tops, then once MLB players figure them out, they go downhill fast. Will this guy have the same problem, or no? His offspeed stuff is OUTSTANDING, I think the variations of speed and amount of them he has alone will keep him good. His fastball though in general is going to be in the low 90's and straight as an arrow though, so he'll get hurt on that. Thing is, he's smart enough not to throw it a whole ton. I think the difference between if he'll be good or great is how well he can control the location of his fastball, because it's his one pitch he has to locate or else he'll get killed throwing it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) Mike Mussina strains a hamstring. Phillip Hughes is coming this year. Not sure if he's ready, but with the britleness (is that even a word?) of that staff, it's inevitable.

I like the pitching matchups in this series for us. C.C. is tough, but nowhere near Santana tough or not even as tough as Harden IMO. We can win that if Jose is on his game again, and I really like our chances in the first 2 games.

They need to make a commercial about the time zone one, that's by far the funniest IMO. But in general yes, all the categories need a commercial. QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) Also, does anyone else think the parking space one (unique sights on tsscbot.com) is a dig at the Cubs/northside/wrigley? The parking spot and time zone ones are by far the most obvious digs on the Cubs, but they all get a shot in just by the questions, based on where all the people who ask questions are from (well known north side areas).

Is the Sox-Cubs rivalry the same for non-Chicagoans?
whitesoxfan101 replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let me clarify here, it did indeed stop becoming a RIVALRY persay in terms of the games on October 26, 2005, and won't become one again unless they win it all (lol), but I was talking more about my hatred of the Cubs and their fans. As long as Cubs fan exist (and that's especially true in Chicagoland), I will hate them simply because of how stupid their fans are. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 06:15 AM) So as long as something improves the nation its OK? You can't be serious. It doesn't matter whether he contributes something positive or not. Heck spying on Americans can catch terrorists, and not having American die is positive right? So you are cool with giving up your freedoms of privacy and speech then? Oh it's time for me to remind everybody of my favorite quote yet again: "Those willing to give up essential liberties in order for personal security deserve neither". -Benjamin Franklin

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) In this case it was because the baby was born in the bahamas and they have different laws than us. Stern knew it wasnt his baby so he tried to hide behind Bohemian laws to prevent the test from being performed. Exactly right about the Bahamas, but part 2 of your question answers her question moreso in general. People don't want the tests in general because somebody/everybody involved in terms of the guys know they aren't the daddy.

All signs have pointed to Illinois going after 6'7, 225 pound wing Rodney Alexander of Benton Harbor, Michigan via Redlands Oklahoma CC. Anyways, he was down to Illinois and Tennessee by all accounts, but somebody posted a rumor on the IB that he canceled his visit to Tennessee this weekend and very well may sign with Illinois next week. If true....well he's a wing with good size, and his scholly opens up in 2 years as a JUCO, so I wouldn't mind it.

the site has all the commercials, for anybody who hasn't seen them yet btw. That site is about the best ad idea we've ever come up with, outstanding stuff.

Is the Sox-Cubs rivalry the same for non-Chicagoans?
whitesoxfan101 replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, because the sad life of living with tons of Cubs fans around you is the only way to truly understand why they must be hated, and you only truly get that living in Chicago. I consider living in a place with lots of Cubs fans like a colonoscopy, you know it sucks, but until you've went through it, you don't appreciate just how much it sucks, and thus non-Chicagoans can't truly get it the same way. They are just as good of fans as us though still . -
If you want to get mad at somebody, get mad at the advertisers. They are the ONLY reason Imus was fired, which is another sad statement about this country. To me, EVERYBODY is the bad guy; Imus for what he said, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for still have pulses and voice boxes, the entire Rutgers team for that abomination of a press conference, CBS AND MSNBC for firing Imus due to pressure from the media and sponsors, not what he said, and so on. I honestly think that EVERYBODY in this case is both wrong and out of their mind in certain regards, a true sign that racism in this country may well always exist, and that's a damn shame.

I got a pocket schedule at a gas station near NIU with this slogan on it 2 months ago, thus although it's not new, it's still quite funny. Not as good as the billboard, but implying the same point.

http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/66339.html Actually, Whitlock is just a rac....oh wait, he's black?? Darn, can't just fire him and make him go away for having this opinion. He's especially right about Rutgers, that self promoting press conference they held yesterday pretending to be hurt was an embarassment to their entire school. Regardless of what Imus said and what should happen to him, if you are THAT offended over what somebody says, your the loser, period. This isn't 1961 where a racist comment could actually lead to you getting lynched or something. And in terms of the gangsta rap battle in racism, it is unwinable with as much money as that genre of music makes, unfortuately.
-
I still don't understand how this is "racist". I think Imus deserved significant trouble due to the fact that saying "nappy headed hoes" (and it wasn't on accident, he said it more than once) is extremely sexist, but to say it's racist is a stretch. After all, in that same convo, he talked about how pretty the Tennessee team was, and they only played 1 white girl. Should he have got in trouble? Yes, but what he said was sexist for sure, and debateably (at best) racist. I think his history of what he's said is what is going to get him fired and what lost him the MSNBC simulcast though. Also, this country has more black on white racism than it does the other way around, BY A MILE, but I'm a racist for saying that. The sooner african americans decry the "leadership" of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and quit making the kind of comments about whites that whites get killed for making about blacks, the sooner we see more racial progress.

His home run tonight turned out to be the game winner btw, as it made it 3-1 when he hit it, and the Reds won 3-2 due to giving up a tally in the 9th. Just having seen him play twice, you can see his speed in the OF, he has run down everything out there just about, and obviously the power from the left side as well. I also saw a throw from him in ST that just was mind blowing, so he has a great arm.
