Opening Day: White Sox vs. Indians, 4/2/07 (L)
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in 2007 Season in Review
We'll win tomorrow, and then a thread will be started dreading the fact we got rid of Freddy Garcia despite the fact he showed no signs of decline. -
Crede will once again, be nowhere near as good at the plate as Thome/Konerko/Dye, even if he repeats last season, so fans must think he's Brooks Robinson 2.0.

Lowery signs extension at SIU

Only will improve the already great recruiting he's done, and we know he can coach. SIU's dominance lives. -

Amazingly, the Bulls gained a game back as Cleveland lost at Boston (with LeBron out) and the Bulls won at Atlanta. Once again, just 1/2 of a game out of the #2 seed. Come on!! -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) You cant debate his coaching skills, the guy has really made this group of players into a good team, even the announcers were talking about how well organized they are than other teams and how their conditioning is top notch. With that said, he needs to find someone else to take that final shot, this is not his year for that. I would have had Kirk with the ball, and maybe drive and dish to TT. Something other than the Gordon dribble and turnover show. He's a pull up shooter, run him off some curls and let Kirk handle the ball. The development of players is undeniable, but he's still lost 3 games due to dumbass late game calls that anybody could see would fail. I'm not saying fire him, but if we finish a game or two out of the #2 seed and get the #5 instead, simple things like that are the reason. -
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) Its hard to just 'ditch' a changeup. If learned properly, a changeup is a devastating pitch. Just ask Keith Foulke circa 2000. I haven't seen him throw a good changeup in 2 years though
-
I could understand not extending Dye and Buehrle, but it would make no sense not to keep Tadahito around. If we get this done at that deal, I'll feel a lot better.
-
He should just ditch the damn changeup, it's the one pitch that hurts him the most, by far, and everything else he was throwing looked good yesterday. I think if he dumped the change for good, he'd be better off.

3rd time this year Skiles has lost a game due to being stubborn and making Ben take the last shot. When we are a #5 seed losing to Miami in the first round instead of a #2 with a clear path to the EC Finals, blame the "great" coach. At least Tyrus was amazing. -
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...g.ap/index.html Let me just say first of all, between what my friends in the AD here at NIU (maybe Toledo's biggest rivals) have told me, the results of some of their games and the weird plays involved in already decided Toledo games lately, and the history of the kid involved, I was only mildly surprised at the break of this story last night. In fact, games involving Toledo have been taken off the board the majority of the time the last 2 years at the Vegas casinos because of how suspicious the final numbers in the games had been. However, it potential involves the 2 major sports at that school, and there are at least several other players involved. This story is going to get pretty big, especially since Toledo isn't a chosen safe school and will get killed by the NCAA for this. The 2 most interesting links are first of all, the actual complaint against the player from Toledo, which is pretty damning: http://www.wtol.com/Global/Link.asp?L=235135 And 2nd is one from a thread I was given the link to by an NIU AD member over a year ago, one of the reasons this news didn't surprise me. This thread is just as interesting as the charges themself: http://forum.therx.com/showthread.php?t=316210

I've been hearing that Donovan to Kentucky has been a done deal for almost a week now, so that news is not a surprise. I just wonder what Gillespie will do when he doesn't get the UK job after being a douche to A&M. He better hope Arkansas pays up.

That was a MUST MUST MUST win last night considering all the circumstances, so it's good the Bulls got it, even if it was a poorly played game. Tyrus looked outstanding though, and the defense was really good outside of the 2nd quarter. Time to beat Cleveland tomorrow and, amazingly, move into 2nd place in the entire Eastern Conference. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) I'm going to go out on a limb here. McCarthy, Tracey, Anderson, Logan Remember how much Ozzie hates it when his young players decide to open their mouths. If Kenny is letting Ozzie do that than his seat should be just as hot, if not hotter.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) Logan should have made the team based on those stats. I know it doesn't matter what players think, but it has to be demoralyzing for team morale to see a guy with an 0.00 not make the team. I'm assuming Logan is not some jerk who the players hate. If he's a decent guy and does not have some personality flaw I think he should have made the team. I mean what more can a guy do?? Have been traded for this offseason and have the organization put him on the team no matter what to cover their own asses.

Briggs finally wisened up here. By saying he will sit out 10 games then come back, he guarantees this year counts as a year of service, would make about 2.4 million in game checks (400 grand a game), would hurt the Bears, and minimizes injury risk. A threat like that, which he could realistically follow through on, is something that could make the Bears take that deal from Washington. I personally hope he's gone. Briggs might have been my favorite player the last 2 years, but realistically he can't play on this team again with all that's happened without hurting it to the point where another trip to the last game of the season isn't possible.
-
The thing that scares me the most is the personnel stuff, such as guys we traded for last winter making it over guys we didn't, seems to be on KW's desk. I KNOW Ozzie is not very smart, but I don't want to think Kenny is clueless too.
-
I still don't think this is a bad team, but the colossial mistakes made in March very well could be the reason we don't play in October.

Here's a surprise, Downey picks Cubs and Sox 4th
whitesoxfan101 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You could easily a make a case he's right on both counts right now. -
It's been obvious all spring that this organization was going to keep the guys they traded for over the ones that earned a spot, and that 3 lefties in the pen was not an option. Hence Aardsma over Haeger, Sisco over Logan, and Aardsma and Masset being locks. Only reason Floyd didn't make it is we aren't carrying 12 pitchers. Sadly, that appears obviously how they are making decisions. And btw, I heard this on ESPN Radio at 6 PM, how did this thread take until it did to pop up?

I was worried about Reed's long term prognosis the moment I read that a lot of people compared him to Mark Kotsay.

I NEED A GUSTAVO MOLINA SIG AND NOW!

I feel as if the eyes of God are upon me looking at that sig. -
Which pitchers get the final two bullpen spots?
whitesoxfan101 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It'll be Aardsma and Logan, although it's an absolute joke that Aardsma is making this team over Haeger. -
I love how negative everybody becomes over an injury to Toby Hall and Eduardo Perez missing the team. If you think we're bad, that's your mistake, but to think it over those 2 things is a bit misguided.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) You know I hate Ozzie, but if you're going to say that his moves last year kept us out of the postseason, then you can't not give him credit for what we accomplished in 2005. What moves did he make? We built a 15 game lead by just beating the hell out of everybody, were fortunate not to completely choke it away, and won in October because our pitching and home run hitters came out to play. It's not like he overcame mass injuries, bad pitching, or a patchwork lineup.
-
QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Exactly! Wasn't Gordon saying the similar things when asked about his commitment to UI up until he changed his commitment to IU? In most cases, these guys stay true to their word, but you never know for sure until they sign that dotted line. Bruce Weber isn't recruiting this kid, Sampson is. Big difference.
