  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) Erstad's OBP the last 6 years .331 .313 .309 .346 .325 .279 Podsednik .371 .313 .351 .330 I'd say Podsednik's actual getting-on-base in his worst years is as good or better than Erstad in his best years. But yeah, there is the whole CS thing. And the "little more pop" you talk about...well, that's basically the difference between probably 2-3 home runs and 5-6 home runs over a full season. Similar amounts of doubles for both players also, Podsednik with a few more triples Well yeah if Erstad is hurt all year like he has been, Pods is a "better" option. But both players are pretty much awful, and I'm trying to come up with a lesser of the 2 evils here, and at least if he's healthy, Erstad can be a mere slightly below average player. I'd prefer they both are in Charlotte though, I hate grinders. If your a grinder, it just means you lack the talent to be a legit player and must work hard to survive. I'd rather have a really good player who doesn't "hustle as much". And I agree Kalapse, I'm already getting pissed at Ozzie and getting anxiety over the season with this potential batting order, and the fact that Luis Terrero is going to be on the team. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) I actually think Podsednik has more power potential for the 2007 season, you likely will not see it but if both players went about things the same way at the plate this season I could definitely see Podsednik hitting a few more homeruns than Erstad this season. Of course at the most I see Erstad hitting 5 this year so that may have more to do with it than anything else. Interesting....Pods get on the Gary Matthews Jr. program for his contract year?
  2. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Why on earth would anyone want Erstad within five miles of the top of the order? Because it'll be either him or Pods hitting #1, and Erstad, who won't waste 25 outs getting caught stealing, is the lesser of the 2 evils. He also has a little bit more pop in the bat, and will get on base at the same rate Pods would.
  3. So the Falcons deal their best QB so that their star RB who happens to take snaps from center has more job security. This is why you'll never win anything of significance, Arthur Blank and Rich McKay.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) That's one weak OF in regards to power potential. And considering neither Sweeney or Anderson would be guaranteed to post decent offensive statistics, that would be quite the risk. Although, such an inexpensive OF would allow more money to be allocated to signing Alex Rodriguez. Perhaps the Sox would trade Crede and shift Fields to the OF, where Clark would be the 4th OF. All I know is few things ever are predictable with Williams. If everything were to occur as either of us have suggested I'd be amazed. NOW your catching on to my thought process....although Fields at 3B, A-Rod at SS, and Clark as a starter would be feasible too.
  5. I remember when he and Wing were the big time arms in our system. Damn I'm getting old....
  6. They without question have the best talent in that division IMO, question is whether they can stay healthy and whether THEY are aware they have the best talent in that division. I love the Brew Crew though, I have a friend that lives not even a mile from the ballpark and we have a good time at the games, great park.
  7. Matt Lindstrom has to be pointed out, since he's listed as the Marlins closer, and they can put ANYBODY at closer and he does well it seems like, and really you could pick any of half a dozen D-Rays in this category even after the top guys. I think Russell Martin is going to emerge as one of the best catchers in the game as well, and Kevin Kouzmanoff is going to blow up at 3B for San Diego as well as Howie Kendrick at 2b for the Angels and Edwin Encarnacion at 3B for Cincinnati. As for pitchers....a handful and then some will emerge in this category, but who those people will be is too damn hard to guess, I gave up on young pitchers years ago.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) I've watched a s*** load of Brewer's games over the past 3 seasons (I just love that team) and there's a reason why I've been mentioning Clark's name on here for the past 2 seasons. The guy can play all 3 OF positions well and is pretty damn good in CF (I would trust him out there as a starter over an extended period of time). He has an above average arm which makes him a pretty good backup in RF. He'd immediately become the Sox' 2nd best arm accuracy + strength player in the OF behind Dye. He's basically better than Erstad at most everything except Grinding. I'd welcome Brady Clark with open arms even if it cost one of my favorite players in Rob Mackowiak. I agree 100 percent on all counts here so much that I'd swear I posted this. It sucks that the moves that make so much sense to us fans never happen though. If we were to see something Clark in LF and Ryan Sweeney in RF (or vise versa) next year, with Anderson in CF, I wouldn't be too hurt, (although the fact we're going to lose Dye stings).
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:36 AM) Also gotta like the seats being angled. I agree there for sure. Between the angled, more cosmetically appealing new seats, view of the action from just about everywhere on the lower level concourse (I don't think i've ever seen another ballpark like that), the fan deck, and the food (as well as cap corner and the HOF shop of course )....our lower deck experience is as good as any in the game, period. And the upper deck is obviously a lot better now too, as with the renovations I'd say it's MLB average up there now, which is a huge upgrade from the past.
  10. My prefered lineup: 1. Erstad LF 2. Iguchi 2B 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Pierzynski C (Hall vs. lefties) 7. Crede 3B 8. Uribe SS 9. Anderson CF Too bad that will NEVER happen.
  11. Thanks for posting that Kalapse, that's the pic that got me as to how much nicer the place looks. Also, randomly, I was in a box with just about that exact view for the Barrett sucker punch game. Good times, and the only game I ever have sat in a box for in any sport. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) The two blue seats are where Konerko hit his grand slam and Pods hit his walk-off I believe. Yep, and that was a great idea. Just glad those are the only 2 seats left that are blue, that's all.
  12. Really good gallery over there with some good pics of the new look at The Cell, might want to check it out. You can see (especially in the last pic of the gallery) how much NICER the place looks and how much more it all goes together with the dark seats. Also, the 2 blue seats look cool, but damn I'm glad those are the only 2 blue seats because you can see how AWFUL and BAD they look compared to the new dark green ones.
  13. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) to say he will "never" get a kid out of the cpl overlooks the fact he got the best kid in the city three years ago. i'll grant you that brock wasn't a top-shelf five-star kid, but never is all-encompassing. perhaps you'd like to clarify. Brock was a VERY VERY late bloomer, and didn't have skills that translated well to the major college ball level, thus the interest from other schools was limited. He wasn't going to get anybody paid and Illinois was the biggest school that wanted him, thus he came to Champaign. The one thing I will say though is Simeon is a good place to try if Illinois want to in the city, their coach is one of the few decent guys in the CPL and Illinois has a great history at getting players out of there.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) Apparently Prior and Wood are both starting the season on the DL. In extended spring training and on the DL, some things in life never change, thank God.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) my ass, its freezing outside. Ahh yes, but it's sunny and after today, the highs are going to be all 50's and 60's the next 10 days with chances for spring showers and thunderstorms, so it's all good.
  16. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) michael beasley or oj mayo? Rose and Gordon are so much better than those 2 it's not enough funny. Rose is better than Gordon though, I've seen them both in person twice and although Gordon is going to be a top 5 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, I'd bet Rose goes #1. I've never seen a point guard like him or even close before.
  17. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 07:07 AM) -as i've said all along, people trying to paint the cpl as a lone entity don't know what they are talking about. Of course it's not, you have to pay to get most good players EVERYWHERE in this nation. To say it's only like that in the CPL is crazy. Bruce is never going to be able to get players out of that league though, regardless of what that article says.
  18. I can't see Aardsma making this team, he's been so atrocious this spring and his stuff is nowhere near the quality of the other pen guys. I'd be shocked if he comes north.
  19. As Wikipedia will tell you, Jesus was born between 2 and 8 BC. Thus my question is, HOW could Jesus live for 2 to 8 years before Christ. Is this one of those things that you just say that's why he's Jesus? I wish I could live 2 to 8 years before myself.
  20. BTW, my guess is: Jenks Eminem Thornton Masset Logan Haeger And I think yesterday will give the team it's wish of Floyd as the #5 and Danks getting a year of seasoning at AAA before taking Buehrle's spot next year.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) If it wasn't for the bracket contests, the NCAA tourney would be as popular as the NBA finals. If it weren't for gambling, the NFL would be FAR less popular than MLB. The only sport in this country whose popularity isn't based on gambling is baseball, and professional ball to be specific, which is why I still say baseball is THE great American game even today. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Nothing I like more than people pointing to the ratings of something. These are the same people who sit there and watch American Idol every night. Ha that makes my point (and yours) even more solid, good point.
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) I run my mouth during the season, but say a peep during the tourney...KU always CHOKES anyways. You guys are on the far inferior side of the bracket IMO, and I think your guards and wings would overwhelm Florida, so if you survive UCLA in Cali, I think you'll be in the same game you were in in 2003.
  23. What 6 or 7 (I would guess it'll be 6) guys will be in our pen come opening day.
  24. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Your opinion-check the ratings The less people that like something, the better it is. The vast majority of people are morons (the fact that in comparison to the population, I'm smart, proves that for sure) so really low ratings to me are a confirmation of my interests.
  25. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 11:37 AM) Soxbadgers, where you at? Hiding because of how stupid all his Big 10 and Wisconsin trash talk looks right about now. He shouldn't hide though, people like me say dumber things than that and come back for more.
