I'm in and my bracket is done....if nothing else, "Paging Dr. Frazier" should win something for name creativity.

The East Bracket (East Rutherford)
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This region is LOADED, best one by far IMO. Hence I'll take the biggest, meanest, and best defensive team in Georgetown. UNC simply seems to not pay attention enough for my taste, and it's gonna get them. -
The South Bracket (San Antonio)

Ohio State got a pretty simple draw IMO. Can't ask much more than 16, Mormons/Xavier, Tenn or VA, and them an untested Memphis team. I have tOSU winning the whole damn thing, so obviously they take this region. The other point that should be made is this region might have the best pound for pound entertainment matchup in the 1st round in it's 5/12 game, Tennessee vs. Long Beach State. We all know how Tennessee plays, and LBC plays a style similar to the Phoenix Suns (they scored 92 points in a regulation game in their league title game, for example). That should be some must see TV. -
The West Bracket (San Jose)

UCLA has got this. Another year as the #2 who doesn't have to leave Cali and gets a better #1 in a virtual home game (KU this time, and they'll beat Elite 8 Bail in that game). As for Illinois, despite the fact i'll never get how they are a 12 and Indiana is a 7 and Sparty a 9, they get a good draw. However, I think SIU will beat the Illini (after the Illini beat the overrated Hokies). Pruitt would just eat Falker for lunch and then throw him into the stands, but Tatum, Mullins, and Young will all kill Randle/Brock, Frazier, and McBride, thus the difference. -
The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wisky and Florida with much harder roads than everybody thinks. Tech could easily beat Wisky (although that's a tough task in Chicago), Oregon could beat Wisky in the Sweet 16, and Florida might have to deal with Arizona and Maryland back to back. This was the one bracket that I spent more than a few minutes on, and I have a feeling it's the one I'll suck most at with predictions. -
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) haha just what illanoy fans want to hear. The future is bright at IU, not so much in champaign. I don't know where you see Indiana having such a more bright future than Illinois. Besides Gordon (who is only going to be in Bloomington for 1 year, so he better get his licks in quick), Indiana is recruiting the same mediocre 3 star/borderline low 4 stars that Bruce is, Kelvin has a history of geting recruits like that, he is a similiar coach to Bruce in that he isn't aware offense has been invented yet, and the teams looked awfully simliar this year.

Illinois probably should get in, but they'll be out due to the lack of even a single quality win. Also, quite a few mid majors will get at larges (Drexel and Appalachian State for instance). Hope I'm wrong though. Also, today's action made the 4 #1 seeds awfully easy.

The 2007 Big Ten Tourney

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) I can't believe this horrific conference is going to get 5 teams in the tournament. It's going to probably get 6, which is amazing since the league is AWFUL. Those 2 games last night were 4 of the 6 tourney teams, and I didn't think much of any of the 2 teams (including Wisky). Illinois should be in after "winning" that war of attriction last night, I'm not sure how you could take Indiana over Illinois, all things considered, and Indy is in, so Illinois should be too. And Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa did lose yesterday with Illinois winning, so overall that's a very good day. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) It's not the amount of times you get caught, it's the percentage. If he steals 100 bases, but gets caught 20 times, I'll take that. The problem with Pods isn't speed, it's technique and timing. I don't think he gets a very good jump off the pitcher. If Erstad could still steal 20 bases, but only get caught 5-8 times, I'll be happy. Well of course. People are still under the false premise that a .350 OBP guy who goes 50 for 65 in steals is better than a .370 OBP guy (which Erstad isn't obviously, but i'm making a seperate debate) who goes 18 for 20 in steals, when in reality guy #2 is much better.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) I see A&M over Texas. I'll take a senior leader in Acie Law over 4 freshmen every day. And I'm going to pick the "upset" of A&M over KU. And 101...give me a conference that is stand out this year? There really isn't one. Big East will have a lot of teams in, but maybe 1 that is FF worthy. Pac 10 - I would've said them until UCLA got beat by Cal. SEC - It's Florida and the rest. ACC - Mmm, not so much. Conf USA - Nope. Your correct, but I'm just going in general on the eye test. Watching the Big 10 and 12 games yesterday was like pulling teeth, at least the Big East, Pac 10, and ACC had quality play, even if a lot of good to really good teams lost.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) I like my leadoff hitters to be capable of stealing bases a little more often. Here is a question - how is Erstad at bunting? Not of huge importance, just wondering if anyone knows, and if he still has enough speed to try them occasionally for hits. I still think Gooch would be a good leadoff guy. He's a lot better than Pods at bunting. Pods SUCKS at non bunt for hit bunts (aka sacrifices). As for stolen bases....your right to an extent, but if your going to get caught 20 times like Pods, your killing the purpose. Stolen bases are only as good as your success rate and how often you get on base in general.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 07:53 AM) You might want to pull out the '85 Bears video and wonder how Dikta became stupid. Somewhat off topic, but Ditka always has and always will be a poor coach. With the talent he was given, it's a travesty he didn't win 2 Super Bowls minimum (and probably should have had 3). As for Ozzie, like I said in the other thread, he won't be on the hot seat until this time in 2008, and that's only if we miss October again (and I don't think we will).
-
Phillips was a year early with these comments. If we fail to make the playoffs this year, Ozzie would be in the hot seat for 2008. But even an Ozzie hater like me knows this season has no shot as being his last one here (and I hope we are really good, Ozzie has a good year, and I eat my words).
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) Good point. So throw Pods in the pool too. Who leads off then? I'm OK with Iguchi leading off, but that won't happen. It would be Erstad, and that is less than ideal, to me. Erstad is a better leadoff hitter than Pods IMO. He'll get on base a bit more, and won't make nearly as many outs on the bases getting caught stealing and trying horrible bunts.
-
The Big 10 and especially Big 12 are just mind bogglingly awful. I can't remember seeing either league as bad as it is this year. Should be an easy day for KU, Texas, and ATM today.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) If Rowand is on the Sox when they break Spring Training, I'll eat my Sox hat. Not that I don't like him, or think he'll help, or anything, I just don't think Kenny will pull the trigger on that. No reason to. Rowand and Erstad are basically the same type of player. Not fantastic, but gritty. Yep. Both are overrated defenders who in reality are simply a bit above average. In fact, Erstad is a better hitter and can step into the LH batters box, so i'd take him.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) Ozzie loves Pods though.....it's not going to happen. Ozzie loved Freddy a lot more and we dealt him too. This is for sure Pods last year here, so we'd deal him.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 06:54 AM) We will regret dealing Boone Logan. We don't have the depth with lefty relievers to deal. Not as much as we'll regret dealing FOR Aaron Rowand. I'm amazed somebody as smart as Kenny has this much interest in a mediocre player, ESPECIALLY when we have better guys like Dye, Erstad, and heck even Ryan Sweeney.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to AssHatSoxFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Man as bad as the Bulls were at Miami, the Magic were even more awful tonight. The Bulls didn't even play much more than average, the Magic just didn't ever find the stadium. -
I would expect that the next time Dick Durbin calls our troops Nazi's (and he will, he's already done it more than once), you'll be posting that too. These (and this) are non stories by idiots that should be ignored.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) What they really have to understand is our society no longer wants to hear big goals. Imagine if Kennedy had talked about a man on the moon in 2000. He'd have been laughed off the political map. Exactly. Big goals nowadays are seen as either unattainable goals or a flat out set of lies to try and get votes.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) I'm still confident GT will get in....too many top 50 wins not to. They are probably going to get in, but only because they are LUCKY how bad the other bubble teams are doing. That's an inexcuseable loss, refs or not though, and if they are out now, they have nobody to blame but themselves for losing to WAKE FOREST.

The 2007 Big Ten Tourney
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'll be in the 3rd row of the UD for the night session tomorrow with MSU/Wisky and Illinois/IU. I think the Illini, all things considered, are probably in despite today's horrible performance, but a win over the banner pointers would ensure it, and it's always nice to beat them, so hopefully they play better.
