The South Bracket (San Antonio)
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Great looking bracket on paper. ATM and Memphis should be a classic, although I have a bad feeling about Memphis in a virtual road game with Douglas Roberts hobbling. For some reason, I think Ohio State is going to step up and give Tennessee some big issues tonight. Predictions: Ohio State 77 Tennessee 66 Memphis 68 Texas A&M 66 -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) USC is only going to get better next year too. Yeah they have Mayo, plus a couple decent other players coming in with Simmons and Washington, and they have a 5 star, top 10 player and 3 star top 150 player for 2008 on board. They lose Lodrick Stewart who is pretty good, but Mayo can more than replace him and they bring back just about all their other key guys like Pruitt, Gibson, Hackett, Young, and Lewis (and 3 of the 5 are only frosh). LA college hoops fans are in for a treat with those 2 programs out there. -
Tubby new coach of gophers

He's a really good defensive coach, so he'll fit in in the Big 10. He's not a great recruiter by UK standards, but he'll have no problem getting good enough players to get you guys good again. -

I think USC pulls off the upset tomorrow and will face G-Town for the regional title. No idea why I think that, it goes against my bracket in regards to UNC being in the E8, but we'll see. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I look for Donovan to be the next Kentucky coach. It would be the perfect time for him to leave, with his studs leaving for the NBA after this season. He's taking a paycut if he leaves. UF has more money to offer, and they'll offer it indeed. And he lost quite a few players, including a couple to the NBA, after the 2004-2005 season and that went well.... If Matta leaves tOSU for Kentucky, he's a complete idiot BTW. No reason to do that at all. He can get any player he wants at tOSU, their facilities and fan support are 2nd to none, and their fans aren't even nearly as crazy as UK ones. -

Congrats Felix, Tubby is a really good coach and he'll do a great job up there. I for some reason thought Billy Gillespie when I heard UK is open now though. I'm not sure why John Cal would leave Memphis, that situation is absolute glory for him. -

Maybe this is off topic, but I despise how acceptable DUI is becoming in our country. More and more people are doing it, and nobody seems to give a damn. I'm sorry, but if your dumb enough to drive a car while drunk, maybe you deserve to end up in a single car accident or something. It's not too hard to NOT DRIVE if you get drunk. I'm sure nobody will remember this happened in 2 or 3 weeks though, so it's not really a story long term.

I gotta say that it is Herbert Perry (although I think the guy that put Rocky Biddle is our winner).

I just can't take anything these assholes write seriously anymore after how their 70-92 prediction for us worked out in 2005 (along with them saying we had maybe the worst winter in baseball in 2004-2005. Good call guys). QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) Eye syphillis? Watching Pods play has been know to cause it....

Falcons to trade QB Schaub to Texans

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) Wow, ND fans sure are sensitive, lulckily you will all be knobbing Claussen soon and will forget that Quinn ever existed. Still Russell has the higher upside, sorry, but its true. What, your saying 6'6, 260 pounds QB's who can throw the ball 70 yards in the air with some level of accuracy and have actually beaten real defenses and opponents have a better upside than Brady Quinn. ND HATER, GO IRISH 4 LYFE!!! Claussen sucks too btw, he beat a bunch of crap in HS (ahh a younger Quinn...) but he'll be just like his brothers were in college. Luckily for ND, they have got a stud in Demetrius Jones though, I just hope for their sake he gets a real shot to see the field before Claussen can suck it up enough to ruin a full season. -
Kruger at Iowa would kill me. I really like/liked him and STILL don't think he gets nearly enough credit for cleaning up the post Henson/not hiring Collins mess at U of I and putting Self into position to have the kind of success he had. That would be fitting with as embarassing as the Illini program is becoming if Kruger goes to Iowa and does well though, just another steak to the heart.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) DeAndre was heavily pursued by KU and Mizzou, good pickup by IU. KU never wanted him Jimbo, you know better than that (although your right about Misery). DeAndre might be the fattest, laziest, attitude issued, so called "high major prospect" I've ever seen play in person while he was in HS, and although I think based on the good will it'll build in the CPL alone it's a wise tactical move by Kelvin, it wouldn't surprise me if Thomas sucks his whole career at IU, but kills Illinois. That's just the luck/karma that squeaky has right now.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) I disagree with like every thought in this post. 1) Quinn is easily the best QB in the draft in terms of both being NFL ready today and potential. Arm, accuracy, size, leadership, some mobility - what does he have that teams should be afraid of? 2) Even as a RQB, if you will, Vick is dangerous as hell. And beyond that, Vick isn't the reason the Falcons didn't win last year, it was the defense. 22nd in TYPGa, 29th in PYPGa, and jacks*** for turnovers won't help you win many games. If Petrino can fix the defense, they will be good. If he can't, they won't. First of all, Quinn might end up the best QB, but it won't be because of talent. Russell has more raw talent with a blindfold on and throwing lefty than Quinn does. Second, Quinn in his career didn't have a single good game against legit competition. Every single standout game he had was against garbage, and I've never seen a prospect like that, hence my concern. And if you haven't concluded Michael Vick sucks as a QB yet after all these years, I'm sorry. He's a great tailback, and the best athlete in the NFL, but he can't throw. There is a reason every single WR to ever play with him has looked bad outside of maybe Brian Finneran. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) I really dont see why committing to Vick longterm is such a folly. At what age did Steve Young come into his own as an NFL player? (the answer is 31) Vick is 26 and has already been to 3 probowls, Young did not make his first until age 32. I can see why you would just give up on the most athletically blessed QB to ever set foot in the NFL. This is a terrible move for the Texans, not only did they mess up wiht Young, they wasted their pick on Carr, and now have wasted more picks on another unproven commodity. Recipe for disaster. Young didn't play nearly as much while very young as Vick, Young was much better than Vick even when he DID play young, outside of in Tampa where everybody sucked, pro bowls are like gold gloves, they don't mean a damn thing, and his athletic ability isn't going to make him throw an accurate ball. HOWEVER, your 100 percent right about the Texans. To turn Carr, who has never had an OL, into a wasted pick and give up that much for Schaub who, while talented, is unproved, is silly. Based on the merits of what they got alone, this is a good move on paper by Atlanta, even if it means they are expecting Vick to magically gain accuracy after several years of being a scatter arm. -
DeAndre Thomas to Indiana: http://blogs.suntimes.com/preps/2007/03/fo...yer_of_the.html That back to back period of 2004 and 2005 with Brockand Thomas winning CPL POY was an all time low point for the city in terms of basketball. Thomas is a fat ass, too short for his postion, and has a horrible attitude, however this is a move that shows why Sampson gets it and Weber doesn't in recruiting. Thomas will only be at IU 2 years and ride the bench, but the fact IU even took him will build good feelings with the CPL, and help in the future for Indiana. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) That's great, lol. And I love OJ's final move. You only get to be a kid once, might as well use it all up. Hate him all you want, he'll be the best player in his class when it's all said and done. I agree with you on OJ's final move, but at him being the best player in his class. He peaked in about 10th grade, and is the 3rd best GUARD, at best, in this class. I think he'll be pretty good, but nowhere near the level his hype was once at.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) They are believed to be targeting Altman, Kruger, and, the best one I read, Gillespie. HA Yeah, Gillespie is going to leave the recruiting hotbed of Texas....for Iowa . Altman and Kruger would both be good hires though IMO.
-
This is TERRIBLE news, although it sounds inevitable . Hopefully Iowa hires another retard to coach them, that program could be really good with an adequate coach. And Pearl would never go back there, Iowa could get a lot of good candidates, but Pearl knows better than to ever go back to IC. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) Kruger is a good coach, but there are questions about his recruiting IIRC. You don't take 4 programs to the Sweet 16, two (and maybe 3) to the Elite 8, and one (who knows? maybe two) to the Final 4 if you can't recruit. You can sneak out maybe 2 if you can't recruit (a la Bruce), but not 4.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) "Velocity concerns since Spring Training began?" LOL, try velocity concerns since last season. Maybe it meant since Sprning Training of 2006 began . Anyways, anybody who had a problem with trading this worn down, now 30 something before this year and getting something instead of letting him go for nothing after a mediocre 2007 just like his mediocre 2006 (and yes people, he was VERY mediocre in 2006 for all but his last 5, stat padding starts). If you have a problem with what we got, fine, but otherwise...

QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) I wonder if this moves the Falcons into the derby for Brady Quinn. Can they really be serious about committing to Vick? Quinn completely sucks, so that would be just as dumb. But yes, they are committed to Vick long term, which is great news for the NFC South. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Dice-k looked nasty against the Pirates today. 96 mph on his fastball, just blowing it by people. Nice to hear he finally had a good outing this spring. Seeing what I have of him, he's the healthier Japanese Josh Beckett.
-
Griffey probably couldn't even stay healthy as a DH, and has lost his CF job to Ryan Freel and Josh Hamilton. If we trade anything other than a class A retread for him, I'll have to battle not to kill myself.
-
I know he's a great SABR pitcher or w/e you call a pitcher who has great splits, and is signed long term, but the Chris Young/Javy deal hurts more and more by the day. And it hurt really bad the day it happened.

The reason SIU will lose that game is not Kansas' offense, it's Kansas' very underrated defense. -
