  1. Paulie will be fine. If he could survive that almost season long slump he had a few years back, he can survive anything. That 2nd home run last night was a missle shot, not easy to hit a 415 foot liner like that. Riske is the MASTER of serving up hanging sliders though.
  2. I figured this will be needed for all of us with our various TV and satellite systems looking for the game. DirecTv told me this about tonight: Comcast 640: Bulls Game Comcast Plus 668: Cubs Game Comcast Plus Plus 669: Sox Game So there is one explination, god speed to those of you with cable in the Chicago market. Of course, this might be a moot point looking at the KC area forecast tonight.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Alex did it again today. He is amazing. Twice. Now hitting .400 for the year too, and he ties the MLB record for April home runs. Still A WEEK left in April too.
  4. Paulie has risen. This is a REALLY REALLY good roadtrip if we can get it done tomorrow. I still contest we could have lost all 3 games at Detroit, so to have a 4-1 roadtrip in all division games would be outstanding. In other news....we are now in a 3 way tie with Cleveland and Detroit for 2nd, 1/2 game behind Minnesota. Gonna be a crazy race.
  5. The Illini's long standing Simeon connection in both sports makes the Rose loss hurt even worse. Those are 2 HUGE pickups though, especially this early.
  6. Everybody will whine about the refs, but both teams shot 27 free throws (and were great at it, Bulls made 23 and the Heat 22), so whatever. The fact that the Bulls can win when they go 3 for 17 on 3's, Hinrich has 2 points and is in foul trouble, Thomas has only 2 points and 1 board, and PJ Brown has 2 points and hardly plays is a great sign for the prospects in this series. 46 to 33 on the glass overall too for the Bulls, Heat looking a little old going after the loose balls. The differences were Gordon with 24, 11, and 7. My big concern was the quarter court trap on Gordon, but he handeled it well with 11 dimes....we're in good shape if he can keep that up. Obviously Deng with 33 and 8 is huge, and Big Ben was outstanding today. He got blow torched in the 1st by Shaq, but he was EVERYWHERE after that. Also kudos to Sefolosha, when Hinrich was in foul trouble and Duhon was just too small to stay in there, Thabo was HUGE with the 9 points and good defense.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) I know. The guns seem to me to be 2-3 mph for the Sox games, and I would like to hear what the gun was saying Bobby was throwing, so I could add the difference. Yeah, I'm going to chart the pitch speed in the park at the game I go to coming up, tivo the game, and see what the difference is (since i'm a nerd, lol). I'll report my findings on here when I do so.
  8. I disagree with Officer Pat's thoughts on mourning, however I agree that that petition thing is stupid. I have spent this whole week asking friends and family to pray for VT in general and my friend and his close people down there specific, probably have gotten to 100 people that listened enough to pray for them, and this is the first time I've even mentioned it (and only for the sake of this debate). Prayers and thoughts are a good thing and it helps people to know they are not alone, but it is not something that should be publicized, at all.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) what was Bobby throwing today according to the WGN gun today? I forgot to check. The guns on all 3 affiliates that broadcast Sox games are way off, which is part of why the panic over Bobby's velocity was silly. For instance, the gun never registed Zumaya over 99 today, and Hawk alone mentioned 3 pitches measured between 100-102 in the park that Zumaya threw.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 21, 2007 -> 12:28 AM) Wait a minute? You mean Ozzie isn't the only manager in the history of baseball that makes questionable decisions? Is Joe Torre an idiot now? Should he be fired? Couldn't any wannabe from a message board win with a 2 trillion dollar payroll? Torre doesn't consistently make bad moves, but that one was an epic stinker. And the payroll doesn't change the lack of talent their pitching staff has. I will admit however that with what i've seen in 2007, it just looks like maybe Ozzie had a bad year in 2006. I agree with Hawk that managers are like players in that regard, but Ozzie's year last year was one of the worst years I've ever seen any manager have. Hopefully he continues to be much better this year.
  11. I agree it's still early, but McCarthy to me is no different than McCullough and Broadway in the sense of lanky guys with average stuff, and safe draft picks with minimal celings but safe to be productive members of an organization. Danks and Masset each have far better potential alone, let alone combined....hence why I always thought the deal was a fleece for us.
  12. He's on the magie Dwyane Wade comeback from the shoulder injury schedule apparently. Let's hope this works out.
  13. He's obviously just lost it. Gave up a soft single on a 1-2 count to blow a save in a place where we are so awesome normally like Oakland, a mere 6 for 7 overall in saves, struck out Sheffield with a man on 3rd 2 outs last night.....get rid of him. If he can't hit 100 every pitch, he can't get people out. Ok, back to reality. This is now the 2nd straight year everybody panicked about Bobby coming out of spring traning due to velocity. When he saves 40 plus again this year, will anybody besides me and a few others around here trust him coming out of camp next year, or must he throw 100 every pitch?
  14. Based on what I heard about the fans reaction to todays game on the North Side, there is now garbage on the field during AND after the games. Only the Cubs.....and btw, WOW Rivera was awful tonight, but he had no business being in in the 8th. It's April, Joe, and you still had a 3 run lead.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) He just needs to get into a groove. Going to be hard to do that with a straight as an arrow 89 MPH fastball and a change he can't keep down in the zone while pitching half his games in Arlington. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) Oh man... I feel bad for bmac. I really criticized KW for the trade and I admit it, but bmac cannot be be this bad... I still don't get why people didn't like that trade. Looked like a fleece from day 1 IMO. The only mistake this offseason was not getting more for Freddy, at least in regards to trade mistakes.
  16. Absolute garbage game by everybody except the bullpen pretty much. But the pen won it for us pretty much, great job. And that single to get us the lead and win by Erstad might have been the most seeing eye single i've ever seen.
  17. God bless 'em, it was a great gesture and they will never truly know how much the support means to the victims.
  18. Yeah, Ozzie and Mark wearing the Tech hats after the no hitter made me as proud as ever to be a Sox fan.
  19. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Brian was great..we'll miss him, but it is being taken much better than I expected.. Yeah, the kids at VT have been so strong through all of this, it should be commended. RIP to the young man, this has been affecting me all week with basically my best friend from HS being a student at Tech that narrowly missed being in the middle of all this, and his best friend survived the horror in Norris, but saw some things nobody ever should. RIP Brian, you will be missed very much.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:38 AM) Is there a reason why he hasn't been nominated for Sainthood? He's basically the greatest guy to ever play professional athletics and now he's a 36 year old farmboy who is still one of the most feared hitters in the game. Jim Thome has succeeded at everything he's set out to do it seems and it's a damn shame that more people don't know what kind of person he is. He's like Chuck Norris, only better. Way better. Way, way better.
  21. Speaking of things I've never seen For the 3 game series with Texas, Thome was 3 for 4 with 3 home runs, 3 RBI's, 5 runs scored, and 9 walks....so he reached based in 12 of his 13 plate apperances, that is astounding.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) To Pat Boyle. Why the f*** would the Sox pull Rob Mackowiak in the 7th inning for defensive purposes when he's one of the better outfield defenders on the team and it's only the seventh god damn inning? Seriously pull your head out of your ass. He's too busy giving the "business" to Kerry Sayers to hear you. Anyways, way to come back and win the series to get back to .500, guys.
  23. I'm sorry, but 0 for 0 with 5 walks in a game deserves it's own thread. God bless you, Mr. Incredible.
  24. There are a lot of reasons for gun control debate, however as long as their are whack jobs in this country, there are going to be some horrific crimes every once in a while. Sad but true.
  25. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) Let me begin by saying while I'm saddened for the families and loved ones of those lost, let's be honest about this -- in a few weeks time, after this event has passed through the media machine -- all will be forgotten by those not directly affected. Myself included. That is, until it happens again, or until the media or a politician mentions it for use of pushing their agendas. They'll probably blame video games, too, because issues like these are that "simple", things are that "black and white" that they will point to one medium and blame it for all of societys troubles. As it stands, the only reason most of us are even thinking about this horrid incident right now is because it's shoved down our throats every eight seconds by the media. But let's call a spade a spade. The media has sensationalized a mass murderer. Again. They sensationalized the Comlombine incident, and in turn, helped *create* another murderer, who doesn't even deserve being mentioned by name. Written in this "manifesto", he mentions the names of the two other murderers from Comlombine, almost as if he idolized them. So he copied it, and depending on how you look at this, was even more successful. Now, perhaps, someone can write some books and make some movies out of it. After all, there is a lot of money to be made on the senseless murder of innocent people. Now, yet another impressionable youth can become a carbon copy of his or her new hero, and just like their heroes before them, go down in media history, too! The media (NBC) received a package and aired most of it, releasing a "manifesto" written by a complete antisocial clown -- again, a name not worth mentioning ever again. Congratulations, you've successfully made another mass murderer into a martyr, who will undoubtedly be copied. Perhaps not to me, or to most of those reading this...but to someone, some kid, somewhere in the world, is saying how ingenius this plan was, and how much he'd love to do it, too. And gun control will not prevent it, either. Drugs are illegal, too, yet it's easier to get drugs on the black market than it is to get guns legally -- so please, don't even go there. When it happens, we will hear the same stories all over again. "He was such a nice boy...very quiet, barely spoke to anyone. I never saw him doing anything like this." People will mourn again, we will talk about it for a week, further sensationalizing these types of senseless events...and then move on until it happens again. And again. CNN was reporting the bodycount while the incident unfolded, actually going so far as to claim, "CNN was the first to report 30 dead." Good. And f*** you, too, CNN. Nobody cares who was the first to report this. Nobody. The fact you tried to bolster your companies name via the use of a killing spree makes me absolutely sick. This idiots "manefesto" should have been destroyed without even being looked at. It should have been a story of "a senseless idiot with a name not worth mentioning", and the focus of the story should have been on the innocent lives lost, not the murderer...who has successfully gone down in history, because our media made it so. If the media made the stories about the victims, and not the murderers, perhaps the troubled youth watching wouldn't get the idea that there is an easy way of being remembered for years to come. ...and I'm sorry I feel this way. -y2 Couldn't agree more. It's bad enough that the kids at Virginia Tech (including my friend down there) are being harassed non stop by the press for their story, often ending in kids literally running away crying, but this is even worse. The fact that they aired this pathetic and evil video proves the press will literally sell it's soul to satan if they think it will help ratings.
