QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) Wait...Iowa blows? Did we play terrible the last 7 minutes of the game? Yes. However don't forget before Chandler's fumble we had plenty of time and we're driving... Don't forget we scored more points than Texas and PSU combined. Don't forget that Ted Ginn Jr was shut down. If it wasn't for our lack of depth at corner and the fact that Miguel Merrick wasn't starting at SS (you know where they ran the ball at our true freshman starting his first game in the biggest sporting event in Iowahistory) things could have been very different. 38-17 does not dictate the reality of this game. All good points, however the only reason this game was ever close was the home field advantage Iowa had. If this game is even on a neutral field, it's never a contest, Ohio State was better at every position on the field except TE and K. -
Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) Umm, Figgins has a pretty darn good arm. I suppose. If we are going to get some OBP challenged leadoff man though, at least make it somebody like Rollins who will get some extra base hits, RBI's, and produce some runs to make up for the lack of OBP. And as for the comment by Tony, you are right, however wouldn't you rather have better pitching AND a high OBP leadoff man? It is possible IMO. -

If it's Pierre or Figgins, Ozzie wins, and our offense, the team, and thus the fanbase all lose. I don't give a damn how fast these guys are or if they can bunt, neither of them can produce runs, neither can throw, and neither can get on base. That is BAD. -
These moves all look like an obvious setup for the sale of the team by the Tribune. As for the team itself, as long as that clown Hendry is GM, they are going nowhere.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Not a good weekend for Iowa fans, sorry Jason. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2606247 I'm shocked the Iowa basketball program is having problems, after all, their coach is harsh enough to wait for a player to rape TWO different women before kicking him off the team. -

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) It's a shame that he won't come close to winning the Heisman. It sucks, he's one of the top RBs, but won't get many looks because he plays against Ball State and Indiana State. What the critics don't understand is he tore it up at OSU too. He'll never win, but if he tears up Iowa and approaches Barry Sanders record or breaks it, he'll get invited to New York. And I have no reason to think that won't happen. -

Well, Garrett Wolfe has over 1100 yards in 5 games, is on pace to break Barry Sanders record for rushing yards, and could realistically rush for 3,000 yards if we make the MACC and a bowl, thus playing 14 games. Yeah, he's pretty good, just glad we got a road win though. And I predicted that Illini win btw, you could see some progress this year, plus MSU sucks. -

The 2 things I went into this year skeptical of among the top 5 were Auburn and the Notre Dame defense, and I've yet to see anything to change my mind. However, I can't wait for Ohio State at Iowa. Despite the fact Ohio State is superior at every spot except TE and Kicker, I think the night game at Kinnick factor will keep it close. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) I also wouldn't mind seeing the Sox bean Morneau this weekend. I think we all remember his comments from a month or so ago. I'm sure the Sox do as well. I'd like nothing better than to see Minnesota get in a tussle with the Sox this weekend costing them not only the division but maybe a game or two by certain players in the playoffs. We should play beanball because he doesn't like us. Didn't we learn earlier this year how pointless that nonsense is?

QUOTE(AirScott @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) too easy. Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton, anyone? it could be arguable. Careerwise, Gibson and Carlton is a much better duo, but Carlton was very young when with Gibson, and Drysdale and Koufax were unreal together, so I take those 2. Oh, and Contreras and Buehrle was a better duo than Johnson and Schilling .

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Rivals said they did. I can't imagine ISU would be an easier sell though. Rivals is normally real good, but I can tell you with 110 percent certainty Brackens never was offered.
-
Not a surprise, he was getting hit like Buehrle this month.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) I don't think I'd claim Iowa State is outrecruiting Illinois....though Brackins did committ to ISU over Illinois, among others. As I've said numerous times before, I'd kill for an Illinois-ISU home and home. Illinois didn't offer Brackins and never wanted to, but ISU is recruiting just as well as Illinois right now.

Terrell Owens Attempts Suicide
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think actually the most likely senario is that T.O. has been going through some stuff, wasn't trying to kill himself, but his publicist thought he was trying to kill himself, and this has led to a lot of confusion. I believe T.O. when he says he wasn't trying to hurt himself, but I think his publicist (and since he was out of it, the cops as well) might have thought he was. -
B-Mac in Buehrle's rotation spot, new LF and SS, bullpen help, the end. So reload I guess.

Terrell Owens Attempts Suicide

Well to tell the truth, both sides appear to be full of s***. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle here, but who knows what that means. -

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Yep, The first time I heard that I did a double take. You can actually get arrested for trying to kill yourself but then it was explained to me that it was used to get the victim help not to throw them in the slammer. You are correct that suicide and/or an attempt of it is a crime in some states, but Texas isn't one of them, so T.O. wouldn't face an arrest or anything for this down there. -
Well like Ozzie said on day 1, no team of his will ever quit. Oh wait....
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Have you like.. missed all 4,384 threads about how this team has "quit" the past 2 weeks? I just can't believe people still aren't over Everett and Rowand yet.
-
Lugo at SS I wouldn't mind. But for you people calling for Pierre, your clinically insane. As bad as Pods has been, his OBP (.333) is BETTER than Pierre's (.328) this season. YUCK. I have no clue who we will put in LF next year, but if it's Roberts or Pierre, I'm going to cry.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The message was pretty clear that it had little to do with their play, and everything to do with their attitudes. That's a managerial problem then. If a team could have playoff talent, and fail because of their attitude, the manager is failing, because the biggest job of a manager next to putting players in the best position to succeed (which Ozzie doesn't), is to mantain a positive, winning, and hungry attitude in the clubhouse. I refuse to believe that having a far worse DH in Everett than Thome, and having Aaron Rowand, who played about 70 games this year, would have made us better at all.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) I think MB can bounce back. I'm still pissed that Freddy and Vazquez didn't decide to show up until it was too late. Better than Mark, who never showed up period.
-
I'm so damn tired of the bull crap about missing Everett and Rowand. We got a ton more production at DH than we did with Everett, and Rowand was hurt most of this year anyways. The reasons we lost are pretty simple: 1. The starting pitching didn't show up until early September 2. When the starting pitching finally showed up, our offense went to sleep 3. For 2/3 of the season, our bullpen was a disaster 4. We were too busy playing Rob Mackowiak in CF and Pablo in LF, while ignoring Gload, to give Joe Crede or Paul Konerko a day off, and as a result the 2 of them have been falling apart the last couple weeks. Too many days off for some, not enough for others. 5. Minnesota is really good 6. Detroit's hot start was too much for us to overcome 7. This team never executed well 8. Our manager cost us several games. We wouildn't have won it all even if he did a good job, but we very well might have made the playoffs. I'm so tired of people missing our .303 OBP DH, and CF who didn't hit for crap in October, isn't as good on defense as Anderson, and misread 3 fly balls in our biggest RS series (Indians at the Cell). There are a lot of reasons we failed, but a lack of those 2 aren't involved. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) I still want to see a logical rundown of which players "quit" and have no "heart" The only "evidence" I could see would be that game where Iguchi played like an imbecile, not running on the smash to right that should have been a triple and not scoring on a hit. And maybe Pods and his beautiful wife the way he "appears" to have lapses like putting down horrendous bunt efforts. Does "quit" mean have s***ty at bats? Just give up an at bat? I don't think many players ever try to make outs? Tell me, who quit and answer my other question ... do all teams that don't make the playoffs and/or finish 15 out have no "heart?" We had a lot of pulsating wins thisyear that show heart, only to come back the next day and get smoked because of bad pitching or middle relief. I agree we have been pathetic. I tend to believe it's like Konerko said in the paper, that the team is like it always it, it just doesn't work sometimes. After hearing this about Rowand, KW deserves what he got. If one player is so well liked and such a gamer, you don't trade that player. You make the deal happen with somebody else. This team, as a whole, hasn't been the same since we lost 2 of 3 to Minny at The Cell in late August. Since then, we've won 2 series, 1 because Tampa Bay gave us 2 of 3, and the other because our pitching was so good at Anaheim, that we only figured out a way to lose 1 of 3. I can't tell you exactly when we quit, but we've looked just incredibly bad since that Twins series at home.

Will our starting pitchers bounce back next year?
whitesoxfan101 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Next years rotation: Garland Contreras Garcia Vasquez McCarthy Pick up Mark's option, and trade him to an NL team for some major bullpen help (San Diego?) Just my $0.02 -
This team quit weeks ago, it's another in a long list of reasons why Ozzie sucks. But don't tell that to the defenders of the champion.
