  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Cotts has certainly not been the same as he was last season but some of you make it seem like he is politte out there. His era is a little deceptive but its no where as much as Marte's was last season. It should be high 3's low 4's probably with how he pitched while Marte's should of been around 6-7. Cotts inherited runners numbers are terrible, if he comes in with men on base, they are a lock to score. If your in the pen and have that label accurately attached to you (especially as a lefty), it's a big problem.
  2. Since April 20th, Beckett has the 2nd worst ERA in all of baseball among starting pitchers. That's a pretty damning stat.
  3. Beane builds his teams around startin pitching, which is smart. He also values OBP a ton so that he can have cheap offensive players, which isn't too dumb considering his payroll. The reason Beane's teams tend to and will continue to have problems in the postseason is the lack of importance he puts on a strong bullpen and his teams usual lack of slugging percentage. His offense can get people on, but the lack of power won't get them in. They blew their chance at a title in the early 2000's when they had the great pitching AND great power in their prime, but their bullpen was SO bad back then, it was just killer.
  4. Cotts with the Damaso Marte style 3.18 ERA....looks good on paper, but really he has had long periods of being brutal. However, back to the point....we have a damn good pen now.
  5. Well I look at it like this: you keep Al and Madden on 1 broadcast, and the improvement that Tirico and Kornheiser make over pathetic Paul McGuire and Mike Patrick make the game WAY better as it is. Kornheiser I think will be fine by the time the regular season comes along and he figures out what spots are his to make comments.
  6. Brian with some great at bats last night. Takes advantage of the infield in with that bloop RBI single, works a count 3-1 before getting a base hit, a 9 pitch walk, sitting on a fastball and yanking it over the left field wall......very impressive. The one thing I am thinking about in regards to 2007 is how good this guy is going to be. Great game to be at, Garland was great, had the bowling ball pitch in full affect.
  7. Tuesday and Wednesday should be sold out, Thursday is going to be VERY difficult, streak might end that day.
  8. So I had Sox tickets for last night, but it turns out I promised I'd also drive my parents to the airport and bring the car back home this morning. Now they (wisely) always like to fly out early, but with the new security measures, getting to the airport 2 hours early for their 7:30 flight meant 5:30, so here's the timeline (if anybody cares, lol) 5:00 last night: leave for Sox game 5:45 last night: got to game 9:45 last night: game ends (fortunately it was a somewhat short game and easy win) 11:00 last night: get home 11:30 last night: fall asleep 4:30 this morning: wake up and take fast shower to wake myself up 4:45 this morning: leave house 5:30: arrive at O'Hare and drop parents off 6:15: stop at finer Aurora McDonalds for 3 sausage biscuits and coffee (and I hate coffee normally) 6:30: after eating, get home and go back to sleep 11:05: wake back up Now THAT is a White Sox fan Oh, and after further review, I see it was only 25.5 hours, but whatever, lol.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Speaking of which, Gene "da Chort" Honda Civic is MIA too. Well the 2 haven't been seen in the same place at the same time before.....
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 03:29 AM) I hope the big guy doesn't break our hearts in the post season. Now THAT would just be wrong....however unless we win the Central, the only way we'd see Oakland in the playoffs is if they win a playoff series, and Billy Beane IS their GM, so that won't happen.
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) Only two teams in the history of baseball have had the most wins in their league, went wire to wire, and swept the World Series. The 1927 Yankees and the 2005 White Sox. I love that fact......
  12. If we sweep 4 from the Royals, we'll be 74-46 on the season. Our record after 120 games last year? 74-46. Get it done boys!!
  13. Well supposedly this pic proves Castro is alive. But it just looks fake in a few ways, and plus, he's contributing to the evil capitalist company Adidas if true.
  14. You can't forget the 1990 Reds, went wire to wire in their division and swept the "mighty" A's in the World Series. My list: 1. 1998 Yankees (125-50 including October, enough said) 2. 1984 Tigers 3. 2005 White Sox 4. 1990 Reds 5. (tie) 1989 A's and 1993 Blue Jays
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) I'm to the point where I'm starting to love watching the Dodgers. Definitely. Watching their rising young stars like Betemit, Martin, and Ethier.....vets like Lugo, Nomar, and Drew. The way Lofton and Furcal work at the top of the order is great, their pitching staff mixes vets like Maddux, Penny, Lowe, Sele, Hendrickson, and Tomko out of the pen along with Broxton, Billingsley, and Beimel. The new Shingo in their 36 year old rooke closer Saito. This team is the one that will give the Mets hell in October, that would be a real good NLCS.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Sweeney is the last guy I want to get rid of, but I was just throwing that out there. If Dye were a few years younger, I'd be in. But Dye is turning into a DH before our eyes, and we'll need one since Thome isn't exactly a young guy, so Sweeney has a future on this team, even if we got Crawford somehow.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Well, we're already locked up at most positions for a while. Getting Crawford would make Fields obsolete, especially since we have rights to Crede through 2008. Broadway doesn't seem to have a place on this team for a while since the starters are locked up through 2007. And even though most people don't want to see him go, Sweeney might be useless to us, too, if we give Dye an extension. You had me until Sweeney.....between Dye and Thome's age (Dye will be a good hitter for another several years, but his play in RF is making me think he'll end up taking Thome's spot at DH), I think letting Sweeney go wouldn't be such a smart idea.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I think their FO is a little more trade-friendly than they were last year with that douchebag GM they had. Sure, it's going to be a steep price, but it'd be for a premier LF and leadoff hitter in baseball who's only getting better. It'd take at least one of our best prospects, but hopefully we'd get some good prospects in return for Freddy. Not a bad idea, however I don't know if we could get enough for Freddy to offset the price we'd give up for Crawford, and plus our system is already looking depleted in depth at the moment.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) The whole idea behind Crawford being available I believe is that a.) He's not going to be resigned by Tampa if he hits the FA Market, b.) his value in a trade is very high around the entire league right now, c.) Tampa isn't going to be ready to compete in the AL until a few years down the road, i.e. right around when Crawford is looking at leaving as a FA, and d.) They have a lot of other potential outfield talent heading up through their system. All fair points. They also have a ton of position prospects at every position in their system, however that means it's going to take a steep price of young pitching to get him.
  20. I don't know why Crawford would be available, isn't he signed at a fair contract for a player of his calibur through like 2010?
  21. I'll be there, looking to move to 8-2 this year. Get it done Jon!!
  22. I don't know what capacity is officially, but a real regular season sellout is between 38,800 and 39,500 because of the giveaways and such like mentioned. It's almost impossible to draw anymore than that for a RS game. Btw....we've only had 2 crowds all year above 39,509. The largest crowd all year was the opener against the Yanks Tuesday (39,872), and a crowd of 39,750 showed up on Monday, July 24th for a 7-4 loss in the opener of that horrid Twins series.
  23. The guy the Reds have gotten a boost from so far is Kyle Lohse. He's made 3 starts for them IIRC and has been pretty good in all of them, he could be another guy they get some great work from after coming over from the AL a la Bronson Arroyo, and that could be the difference in races as close as the NL Central and Wild Card.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Because of the capacity, that is going to be nearly impossible to get. You could defintely get it if we draw like we did the last 18 games the rest of the year, as every game has been between 38,800 and 39,300. However, that would mean sellouts just about every game the rest of the year, with no letdowns, so it's unlikely.
  25. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Let Pods go and sign Carlos Lee. Rectify the mistake that we made two years ago. I don't know if it was a mistake, with the year Pods had as we won the World Series and all (plus Vizcaino was decent). I doubt we spend that kinda money on a FA outfielder too, and Lee seems destined to end up with the Cubs.
