  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Mother nature does not want to mess with Roger Bossard. The Sodfather >>>> Chuck Norris *went there*
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Ya, I'd bet a ton of people here use hawkisms all the time. Like flash said it's really unavoidable. Yep, I do too. Most of them are cliche now (which bothers me), but some of them are just so awesome that you have to use them, and they are why I can tolerate Hawk. "He Gawn" "Rack 'Em Up" "*Insert City name here*....YEEEEEEEES!" "You can put it on the booooooooard, YEEEEEEEEES!" "Tell you what D.J., he just missed that one....." "Right Size, Wrong Shape" "GAAAAAAAAAAS" Now, you look at that and say "he uses half a dozen of them or so, that's a lot"....but considering how many Hawkisms there are, I really only use a small fraction of them.
  3. QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) I'm not so sure I agree ... Oh definitely that Moronotti is having a field day with this, and I fully expect him to write a column about how the Sox need to fire Ozzie and how he's just a liability to the club -- but what I also think is that Ozzie wanted this, Ozzie KNEW this would send the flames sky-high and he played this. I really believe that; I think Ozzie Guillen is a very canny man. He is using this, IMO, to energize his club and unify them behind him. And I further bet that it will work. JMHO. His club doesn't need that, they are damned good with or without this bulls***. Ozzie lost this battle, plain and simple. Still a hell of a manager though and we're still good, and really in the long run that's all I care about. Ozzie is not a role model, he's not Mother Teresa, he may not even be the greatest guy.....but he's a hell of a manager for MY time, and that's all I care about. Sue me for ignorance if needed, but all I care about is Ozzie doesn't commit crimes (which he hasn't) and keeps us winning, the end. However, he really does need to watch his mouth a bit more before he gets himself into trouble, because at some point his candid attitude will really bite him in the ass.
  4. Sunny and dry to the west of Chicago here, so that's good news.
  5. Everybody knows that this is the best thing to ever happen to Marriotti right? He's getting more attention than ever, will get more readers than ever, and is making Ozzie look bad in the minds of all non-Sox fans. In terms of this little feud, Marriotti wins big time in this exchange, despite how much we all hate him, he outsmarted Ozzie on this one.
  6. That Holland/Argentina game was a joke. Both teams were just content with resting everybody and taking the nil-nil draw, what a waste of a potential great game to watch.
  7. Between his vocal tone, eyebrow waxing, and general way he acts.....Marriotti being gay would not be a surprise. But then again, I'm going to get this put in the filibuster so I'll stop.
  8. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Anyone notice he doesn't say "I love it when you analyze" to DJ any more? I don't blame him, DJ is a far better broadcaster than Hawk now and his ego doesn't like it.
  9. I despise cliches and repetitveness, which is my issue with Hawk (not his being a homer or hothead or "redneck"). When he invents a new one it's cool, but saying the same s*** over and over for 2 decades is bleh. Just my opinion though.
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) LOL, fired? Are you kidding me? No way in hell the Sox are going to do much if anything except maybe tell Ozzie to keep his mouth shut for a few weeks. Yep, what a stupid ass poll. But hey, it's ESPN, so no surprise there. Also, as much as I pretty much disagree with everything Ozzie says outside of baseball, if he were fired for THIS, I'd have to find a new team because that would be bull s***.
  11. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) The goal should be the division and we should concede nothing until somebody clinches something. What made me sick about the Cubs the past few years is how quickly they conceded the division to St. Louis... we can definitely win this thing. Howver, I will agree with you that it is very nice to know we are far ahead in the WC standings. I am not conceding the division, and even if I were....all you got to do is get to the playoffs. The 1997, 2002, 2003, and 2004 WS Champs all won the Wild Card, so it's not wrong or something. However, TIGERS LOSE! so that's good to see. Let's make it a 1 game defecit tonight.
  12. Good interview, hopefully we see him at The Cell soon enough.
  13. QUOTE(The Gooch @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) When both teams are this good, there's not a lot to be mad about. When your a team like the Cubs on the other hand... Awesome screen name....
  14. Gomes is on the team and Sweeney isn't? Hmmm....ok. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Good for Gio Ugh.....I know we got Thome....but ugh.....
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) On BBTN(save the speech), they were talking about a Zumaya for Smoltz trade as an idea/rumor. I hope the Tigers make that deal, they'll regret it for a long time. Smoltz isn't the same anymore, and Zumaya is unreal.
  16. Beetle gave great insight, except I'm surprised he's so pro Loria. Loria ruined and moved a team out of Montreal, and he's seemed to be doing the exact same thing in Miami.
  17. Severe Thunderstorm Watch now....but it's set to expire at 6 PM, so that is a good sign I think.
  18. Benn is an even bigger recruit than Juice. If you can get a verbal from him (a top 10 player NATIONALLY), then this class for the Illini could blow up.
  19. Also I'd like to point out that when somebody calls me a "***" or a "pollack" or something it doesn't bother me.....if we're friends. That's why last year when Ozzie called his friend in the dugout in NY a "homosexual child molestor", I had no beef with it. Those 2 are friends and I"m sure they were just kidding around. However I can say for sure that Mariotti and Ozzie aren't friends...
  20. I would be extremely surprised if this game were to get rained out. You all that are going tonight should be set to go, the forecast is for more scattered type rain than a consistent downpour (as Steff ponted out already).
  21. Cards and Reds fans are the 2 best fan bases in baseball (besides us of course ) and for the most part by what I saw in Cincy and am hearing from last night, nothing is happening to change my opinion on that subject.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) Would it not be more accurate to say it's Oz the manager with the s***ty mouth...? Since that's the only role most of us have been privy to see? That would probably be more accurate actually. I can't say a man I've never met is an asshole (but he strikes me as one), however I can and will say he just has a s***ty mouth. I love his honesty and lack of political correctness, however he needs some sensitivity training. It's almost like in Happy Gilmore where the PR lady tells him he can have fun, but he has to use common sense and not be a total dumbass.
  23. Ozzie is a hell of a manager, and sometimes he's funny. However, he's also a senseless asshole of a person often times with no sense of reality. These are all facts I knew before this statement, and you simply can't say what Ozzie said, even if it's about a guy we all hate in Marriotti. I have learned to seperate Ozzie the manager (GREAT), with Ozzie the person (not so great...). And the sooner everybody else does, the better, although I'd like to see Kenny tell Ozzie to tone it down just a little bit here.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Avery kept telling them in the huddle to drive. He didn't let them down, they let themselves down. They kept jumpshots, pretty much from game 3 on. Fair enough, and in that case the Mavs can think about how something as simple as not listening and not playing 48 cost them a ring, and let their whole city down.
  25. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) You never know if it's going to be your last chance, who knows with Dallas. You can always expect them to be back but when you're up 2-0 and lose 4 straight, that's going to linger on. Whether Dallas uses that as motivation or gets hurt by it we'll find out but they needed to take care of business and didn't. Shaq just said Riley is the best coach he's ever played for. Agreed on you never know, which makes it suck more. And I mean, even being up 2-0 you can live with, but the Mavs HAD a 3-0 lead in their hands, and just stopped playing. And then had their chances to win in games 3 and 5, but ran bad plays, called bad TO's, missed free throws......it was just a bad choke job. Miami did a great job to win 4 in a row against a great team and clinch on the road, but for their great comeback was a greater chokejob by Dallas. Great season for the Mavs, but such a bitter end. It sucks, I feel bad for the Mavs fans, it must hurt.
