  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) How close were Pods and Mackowiak's to going out? Mack wasn't very close, Pods was about 5 feet away, caught a couple feet front of the fence on the track.
  2. s***, we are hitting Lee HARD, but no luck so far.
  3. AJ with the Florida fight song as his AB song yesterday=priceless. Could not tell if he was doing it again today, couldn't hear the background noise that well.
  4. I'm very easy to identify. I'm the white guy wearing Sox gear. Say hi sometime.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Mark also sat for almost a half hour before his inning started. True. Maybe we shouldn't put up big innings and make the pitchers sit for extended periods.
  6. Wow, Thome just missed that one. Ok 1-2-3 inning, but we looked ok against Lee that inning, a solid grounder towards to hole, a flyout to the wall, and a just underneath it fly out. Should be ok if Count can calm down.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) One of them scored on a bad throw, and the other on a once-in-a-long-time homerun on a solid pitch. That pitch Buehrle gave up the homer on was a BP fastball to a good hitter vs. lefties.
  8. Exactly Rowand. This is nothing like yesterday, I'd rather have the stuff be there and the control not be there than vise versa. It's a lot easier to find your control than to find your stuff. s***!! I thought Pods hit that one outta here.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) I can't wait for the "What's wrong with Jose?" thread. His stuff looks fine, unlike Freddy yesterday. Just having some control issues. He did very well to only give up 2 there, let's hope he settles down and gets a QS outta this. GO OFFENSE!
  10. s***. Jose's stuff looks fine, but he can't get it over the plate. Come on Count.
  11. I wasn't drunk, but last year I went to a Sox/Orioles game in May. I was in great seats, only a few rows up behind 1st base. Anyways, Palmeiro was warming up for a bit about half an hour before the game I'd guess, and then he just stood around and talked to some people for a while after warming up for a couple minutes. I then decided to yell at him "Hey Raffy, you seem bored! Having trouble getting *pauses* UP!! for the game today?" He gave me one of the dirtiest looks of all time and started stretching again. Good times.
  12. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) Marlins put up a surprising amount of runs today, mitre has always been a solid pitcher, he did well with the cubs when given the opportunity, Marlins should have one hell of a team in a couple years because of their youth. Wellemeyer pitched well too. Oh man, if only Borowski and Welleymeyer could have nice years and then see Mi Train and D Train do well as starters. The pitching desperate Cubs watch 4 arms they gave up pitch well, how ironic it would be (and actually, I think another arm from the Pierre deal made their team too).
  13. Mitre is going to be really good for them. He won't turn into Dontrelle, but all his pitches have movement, he throws low 90's, and he's a sinkerballer in the 2nd best pitching park in baseball. Should work out pretty well. As for the team in general, they have a ton of young talent and more in the minors. In a few years expect this group to develop to something damn good, make a run, and be broken up. It's like a cycle, but hey it won them 2 titles in their first 10 years so something is working. As for the personnel, the everyday lineup has people at almost every position that could be really good. Willingham and Hermida in the outfield are OBP machines with power, and Abercrombie in CF is a bit of a late bloomer who has a lot of tools. Cabrera at 3rd of course, Jacobs at 1B has all the ability be a stud, ditto for Ramirez at SS. The kid they play at 2B and Olivo at C are a bit iffy, but hey every team has holes. Their bullpen is loaded with all young, live arms besides Borowski basically, and their rotation which will end up Willis, Mitre, Vargas, Olsen, Moehler isn't too bad either. If they can keep THIS group together, come 2008 or 2009 look out. Girardi is going to be a damn good manager IMO and will develop this group into something to watch.
  14. Coulda won the election if he had said this in October of 2004, regardless of if it's realistic or not.
  15. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I'm not saying throw fastball after fastball, but i think he could mix it up a little better. Well that's another part of the issue if what we saw today is a trend and not just a short term issue. You can only throw a fastball on occasion when it's 88 since anybody can hit an 88 fastball when they expect it. So not only is his velocity way down, but it messes with his entire pitch pattern and how much he throws certain stuff.
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Can he legally just move the campaign money into a legal defense fund?!? Does it matter if it's legal? This is politics.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) I was watching some of the Sox highlights from opening day on ESPN and when a shot of Iguchi came up, they said: "lookin' at Iguchi it's about that time', Who said that? Awesomeness, Still Fly is one of the great stupid songs of all time (if that makes sense).
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) There's a difference between a pitcher having a bad day and a pitcher throwing only 85 to 89 MPH when he usually works in the low 90's. Don't you understand that? How are people being completely pessimistic when one of our starter's velocity is way down? People are just concerned. Unless, of course, you know the exact reason that Freddy was only throwing in the mid to high 80's? Do you? Exactly. If Freddy was throwing 92 or 93 today and got hit hard, I'd just say whatever he had a bad day. But when he gets smoked and has nothing on the heater, that's what is the concern point.
  19. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Just got home, but I was following the game pretty much the whole time... Didn't look like Freddy did too good at all... Any comments on our pitchers? Freddy's fastball was concerning in terms of how slow it was. Everybody else was bleh, Logan wasn't too bad at least I guess. Jenks seems to continue to gradually improve at least.
  20. QUOTE(Reddy @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) by the way you've all failed to mention that hawk and dj said he was TRYING to throw the slower stuff and work his control, location, curve etc. that he was going at this from a new approach - an approach i think is ridiculous... but a new approach all the same. i dont think anything is physically wrong with freddy. Well he can try that approach if he wants, but it's not going to work. He's had a great career by using his hard fastball to set off his nasty off speed stuff and get guys off balance. If he's throwing 88 instead of low to mid 90's, he's in for a rude awakening when those 82 MPH curves are smacked into the left field bullpen.
  21. QUOTE(rventura23 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) aaron boone is the worst starter in baseball lol. His wife is the biggest whore wife in baseball though, no contest even if Anna Benson gets married again.
  22. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) I'm more concerned about Freddy than Mark. Freddy didn't get his velocity up and Hawk and DJ said that he hasn't quite had the same velocity throughout the WBC and spring training. Hopefully it improves. I'm disappointed in our starters thus far, but with the offense we got today, even a solid effort from Freddy would still probably be a losing effort. Freddy is really the only one I'm concerned about. That and making sure Jon keeps his control, but it's a lot easier to lose velocity after a ton of innings than control.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) By that, I meant that all I'm hearing is people saying how we have to win tomorrow so that we win this series. Sure, that would be great. However, our season won't be over if we go 1 and 2 in the first 3 games of the season. Of course not, we play Kansas City next . And of course, you can make up for losing a series by winning a couple after that. As for Jenks, i'm not nearly as worried about him. He's a kid and can build the velocity back. Not nearly as easy for a guy like Freddy who has thrown so many innings already in his career.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) I hope the coast guard is on duty if the Sox lose tomorrow. There's a lot of people that seem to think we're in the playoffs right now. I don't know why anybody would think that considering we play in the best division in baseball. It will be much harder to get to October this year than it was last year.
