QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) Yeah, but Tyson's "normal nights" include altering shots left and right like a tremendously poor man's Bill Russell at the age of 23. Put a legitimate SG and a legitmate C on this team, and you'll see just how far we'll go in the long term with Tyson wreaking havoc on the offensive glass/playing legendary defense in the paint. Let's separate championship teams from pretenders: It's all about points in the paint. We may have a guy who could turn out to be THE MOST EFFECTIVE PLAYER IN THE NBA in terms of limiting Opponents FG% down low. Pair him up with a scoring C and then we'll see what's up. And yet, you continue to b**** and moan about the 2001 trade. I'm gonna have to take a s*** on those short term thoughts. Brand might have the work ethic, but he ain't got the rare quickness, height, length, wingspan, or leaping ability to have that type of effect on the defensive end. I use my eyes. No paper arguments here. Don't worry, I won't mention specifics from the "Brand is a better defender than Chandler" argument that took place on here a while back. Brand is a scoring assassin down low, and while I'd love to have him, I'll take Tyson's defensive upside and get my scoring punch elsewhere (C, SF, SG, bench). Brand is special, but he's not that special. He's listed at 6'8, but he's barely 6'7. He damn near defines "Undersized PF". Tyson is a true 7'1 with the makings of a legendary shot-altering force. And yes, being a Tyson supporter is pretty f***ing sweet right about now, ain't it? He's beginning to tap into his potential. Always remember that we're talking about a 23 year old. I don't give a f*** about tools, I give a f*** about the fact that Brand puts up 20 and 10 every year at the 4 while playing solid defense, and Tyson is never going to be able to put up numbers resembling that. Best case senario is that turns out to ONLY be a bad trade for the Bulls. -

Cyrus Tate will be a really good player for Iowa, other than that I don't know a lot about those guys in that class except I think the dude with the long name is Canadian. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Duke looks awfully tough to beat when they're getting production outside of Redick and Williams. A team that plays defense like Wake can make just about anybody look good on offense. If Duke beats the BC/UNC winner tomorrow, then I'll be impressed. -
The Official Bubble Thread

I put this in the C bball thread, but figured i'd add it in the bubble thread too. Good news for bubble teams: Wake and Oregon both have lost in the last 12 or so hours. Bad news for bubble teams; South Carolina beats Kentucky, and will play the LSU/Florida winner with a shot at an auto bid, taking away somebody's at large IF they can pull off the miracle. To watch later for bubble teams: Nebraska vs. Kansas, the bubble teams want a Kansas win in that one. Wyoming vs. San Diego State, Wyoming is below .500 and SDSU is a potential at large threat if they lose, so go SDSU if your on the bubble. Pacific vs. LBSU, Pacific is another POTENTIAL at large candidate if they lose, so go Pacific if your on the bubble. Nevada vs. Utah State, go Nevada if your on the bubble....they are already in, and Utah State is a bubble team at best if they lose tonight. -

To me, it seems pre destined for this final to be Alford vs. Indiana. I'd be surprised if tOSU protects their #1 seed and wins today, if that makes sense. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) It ain't over yet. We got to make our free throws. That's why it's over, you guys (at least based on what games I've seen) are good at the line late in games. 3 pos. game with 22 seconds left, now it's for sure over. -

And let me 3rd what the others are saying about the conference tournaments being not needed. Just play a few extra RS games and decide the auto bid that way, rather than by which tired team can survive. -

Congrats to Iowa, however I will take whoever wins game 2 to take the trophy tomorrow, and I think it might just be Indiana. -
There is a very nice seat in hell waiting for him.

Nevada will play Utah State in Reno for the WAC Title tomorrow, and all the bubble teams will root for the Wolfpack. UAB and Memphis, 2 tourney teams, will play for the CUSA title tomorrow and the MAC title game is between Toledo and Kent, and that is only a 1 bid league. Nebraska improve to 19-12 with an upset win over Oklahoma today. Doubtful they have much of a shot at the dance, but hey you never know, they are 2 wins from that auto bid. A&M demolished Colorado, so A&M is in and Colorado is out of the dance. Maryland was smacked in the mouth by Boston College, and they are also just about finished. Long Beach State will take on Pacific for the Big West title tomorrow, and just to be safe, all the bubble teams out there will be big Pacific fans no doubt. San Diego State defeated a game UNLV game 63-60 to advance to the MWC title game. All bubble teams will be rooting for them, as if they win, the MWC is a lock for only 1 bid. SDSU will take on Wyoming, which is an amazing story. Wyoming is 14-17, went 5-11 in league play during the regular season, has a coach that is rumored to be all but fired, and yet is 1 win from the Big Dance. And Pac 10 #1 seed UCLA won today to improve to 26-6 and advance to the title game of the tourney. Oregon with another amazing effort tonight, but loses by inches to Cal in double OT. The Pac 10 looks set with 4 bids: Cal, Arizona, UCLA, Washington. Also, on a side note....Justin Williams of Wyoming with QUITE a triple double.....10 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 BLOCKS....whoa. -

My goodness, looking at the 8 super sectional matchups....this is one of the better years I can remember in terms of sweet 16 matchups in AA, all of these games could be GREAT. Whew!! What a lineup of games, should be great. Rock Falls is a former class A powerhouse (1999 state champs) and is barely big enough to be AA, it's amazing they have went this far. Lockport has also come out of nowhere to get this far. All 8 of these games could be great, so stay tuned. -
Brian Carlwell with 30 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocks as his team Proviso East defeats national top 25 ranked St. Joesph's 75-72 to win the sectional championship. Also, Bill Cole had an off night with 4 points and 8 rebounds, but drew triple teams all night and was a big part in Richwoods 57-46 win over Washington to win the sectional championship.

Proviso East beat St. Joseph's 75-72 behind 30 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocks from Brian Carlwell. And Rock Falls, who just 7 years ago won the state championship in class A and is BARELY big enough to be a AA school, won a AA sectional title at the buzzer on a 3 over Rockford Boylan. -
Well, she's on ESPNEWS tonight, so clearly no action was taken. She's kinda hot, so I'm glad she kept her job.

Wow, and people say that I have too much free time......you google soxtalk and go to page 6, finding something about genital pimples? Hahahaha, good stuff.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Anyone hear anything about Allan Ray yet? Apparently it's not nearly as bad as first thought. He's regained his vision and is going to be released from the hospital tonight. No news on his NCAA Tourney playing status yet, but there were Villanova people crying in fear the kid might have been blinded for life in that eye, so the news has been good. This is all per Andy Katz on ESPNEWS about 15 minutes ago btw. -

Bruce was as mad as I've ever heard him postgame, and with good reason. Talked about exactly what Illini fans are thinking, which is that we had a shot at winning the league, and didn't take care of buisness, and we had a shot to beat a very, very good team for a 3rd time, and didn't take care of business. That game just pisses me off so much, MSU wasn't on their game and we still couldn't get the win. Ugh. -

Also, Dee Brown should send 10 percent of whatever money he makes playing pro to Luther, Deron, James, and Roger....because damn is he overrated. There I said it Illini fans, crucify me. He's got the fame and the smile and the undeserved awards, but if he's not making 3 pointers, he's a below average player. He was our 4th best player last year and is our 2nd best player this year. He's been great for the school, but as a player he's overrated, by just about everybody. -

Well, the offense was a joke, the rebounding was a joke, the free throw shooting was a joke, and Michigan State wanted it more. That's a bad combo, and I hope we enjoy the 3 seed we get instead of a 2 because of it. A micro cosim (sp?) of what went wrong this year in Big Ten play, and that's why we won't get a RS or Tourney trophy. Ah well, gotta regroup and get at it in the more important tournament. -

Minnesota's defense falling apart, and their offense other than Grier has been horrid this half. Amazing this game is even close.
