  1. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Direct your anger at Skiles, then. Look. I'm not trying to make people look bad. I've been supporting him all along in the face of all kinds of skepticism. Pull up some of the old basketball threads if you want to laugh your ass off at how blatantly wrong people have been. Now he's kicking ass, and people don't want to hear about it. I wouldn't want to hear about it either if I looked like a retard in retrospect. Fortunately, I actually know what the f*** I'm watching, and how to evaluate guys. Pretty odd concept, ain't it? No, he was ON THE FLOOR the first 35 games, he just didn't give a flying f***. Look, I watch the games too, and the Tyson we've seen the last 3 weeks is different in only 1 regard, and that is he's trying. We have to look at the full package though, and even with the last 3 weeks, Tyson has been a dissapointment this year overall. Now if Tyson could play like he has the last few weeks ALL SEASON, hey it could be different. And for the record, I'm not a blind Tyson hater, but at the same time, your an over the top blind Tyson defender, so I'm trying to bring a middle ground here. It's just a fact, Tyson is WAY overpaid and a waste of money unless he have 12 to 14 rebounds, a couple of blocks, and play dominating defense EVERY GAME. Can he do that? Yes, but it's too late for him to fit that description this year, because he didn't do a damn thing the first 35 games or so this year. Now part of that can go on Skiles since he played Tyson out of position, but Tyson was still out of shape and still not giving enough effort, which was also a factor. So in conclusion, I think Tyson can eventually earn his money, and I think PART of the problem earlier this year was him out of position, but at the same time he still overall has been a letdown this season, and 3 weeks of very good play doesn't change that. And also, since Tyson has NO offensive game, he HAS to PLAY HIS ASS OFF and come up big on the glass and defense EVERY GAME, or else the night he doesn't do that he is a below average NBA player. (and sorry that was so long).
  2. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) What about Tubby Smith at IU? I wouldn't bet against this being his last year at Kentucky. Might be a decent fit. Ha let him go there. The only reason he had any success at Kentucky was winning that title with Pitino's players, and riding that wave in recruiting for a few years (as well as playing in the BAD BAD SEC). In general, Tubby can't recruit or coach. Bring him on.
  3. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) I apologize in advance for cherry-picking. Offensive Rebounds Per Minute Since January 21 (w/ a minimum of 250 Minutes Played) 1. Tyson Chandler .158 2. Kendrick Perkins .119 3. Troy Murphy .114 4. Drew Gooden .113 5. Ben Wallace .112 6. Zaza Pachulia .101 7. Kenny Thomas .100 8. Robert Swift .097 9. Zach Randolph .094 10. Shaquille O'Neal .091 11. Dwight Howard .090 12. Samuel Dalembert .089 13. Jamal Magloire .087 14. Kevin Garnett .085 15. Chris Webber .084 Overall Rebounds Per Minute Since January 21 1. Tyson Chandler .389 2. Jamal Magloire .348 3. Troy Murphy .341 4. Kevin Garnett .340 5. Drew Gooden .324 6. Samuel Dalembert .316 7. Tim Duncan .312 8. Chris Kaman .308 9. Dwight Howard .307 10. Ben Wallace .305 11. Kendrick Perkins .300 12. Robert Swift .294 13. Shaquille O'Neal .290 14. Kenny Thomas .276 15. Shawn Marion .264 I have a question. Why is Tyson Chandler owning people so badly on the boards? Can anyone explain the separation between him and the #2 guy in both categories? Come on, let's talk about this. Yeah, good to see he decided to show up on the glass after not playing the first, what, 35 games? He is still a 13 million dollar man averaging 5 points and 8 rebounds a game this season, so you'll have to do better than that.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Yup, Memphis just got f***ed over. They are really good, but they need to get the hell outta that weak ass conference if they plan on being a #1 in the tournament anytime soon.
  5. Hell will freeze over before Wright leaves Villanova for IU, so good luck there. Tom Crean is a average coach who's entire resume was built up by 1 man: Dwyane Wade. If you want him, go ahead but it isn't going to go well. I really like Belein, but that style of his isn't going to bring in the kind of recruits people demand at Indiana. Telling recruits you are running a slow, Princeton offense isn't that appealing.
  6. Oh, and I'm guessing Jannero Pargo fans are also huge Ben Gordon fans. Hey guys, THEY ARE THE SAME PLAYER. They can't defend, can't pass, are undersized 2 guards, and only have 1 skill; getting hot from the field. I really wish we'd trade Gordon for something nice like I know we can, because he is never going to be more than he is right now, and that isn't good enough.
  7. I just want Chandler to turn into a taller semi version of Ben Wallace. It's already obvious the Clips took it to us in that trade with Brand, and that isn't going to change regardless of what happens from here on out, since Brand can defend (although not at the level of Tyson) AND *gasp* SCORE POINTS!! But yeah, if I knew this would turn into a battle between the Tyson woodies and blind Tyson haters, with nobody allowing a middle ground of common snese, I'd have never started the thread.
  8. Yep Duke will be #1, even though that means nothing right now. Hope they enjoy it though.
  9. Nova went 7 for 9 on 3's in the 2nd half, like I said, came down to that. Hehehe.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) At least you've moved past your addiction to crack. I think Heads would be the first to tell you that it's more healthy to be addicted to crack than to be addicted to Iowa State athletics.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Cripes..Iowa a 3 now. Now we are in a position where if they are a 3 and they lose they turn into total embarassments. Iowa could go to the elite 8 or lose in the 1st round based on their bracket. Just avoid long armed, athletic teams.....the Iowa white boys can play, but are just not very athletic and not very big other than Hanson.
  12. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Does everyone remember watching the commercials for "Ronnie Fields: The Art of Dunk" while watching Sox games on Sportschannel? I certainly do, they played that highlight reel all the time. Ahh vaguely. That 1993-1995 era is when I first really was getting into sports (age 7-9) but I don't have a full memory of everything. I've been hooked on college football since the Colorado/Michigan hail mary game in 1994 and I remember being glad that Arkansas beat Duke to win the NCAA title.
  13. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Fields was injured in a car accident, had to wear a halo I believe. Also Garnett was going to UNC I believe but couldnt get his ACT scores up even after trying a bunch of times. Would of been interesting with the new rule what he would of done, would a top team find a way to get him academically in, or would he have gone to a team with lesser academic standards. Yeah I know the Fields story, darn shame. As for Garnett, he'd have went to prep school for a year and tuned up his game, then gone pro. That's the route your going to see more and more kids take as time goes on since the 1 year outta HS rule is pretty lame, needs to be at least 2 if they want it to really mean something.
  14. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) LOL. garnett was just so skilled. at that point and time i had never seen anyone his size do the things he did. he was actually not the most physically impressive kid on his team (that was ronnie fields), but he clearly had a great understanding of what was going on on the floor. michael wright, later of arizona, was also on that team. Yeah I remember Fields throwing it down a few times too. Everybody thought he was going to be even better than Garnett, but instead he now holds just about every record for the Rockford Lightning.
  15. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) i've seen two players comparable to oden: kevin garnett and lebron james. i saw garnett his senior year, and james during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. i've seen o.j. mayo and he is also comparable, but it's harder to notice since he's a point guard and does so many little things that can go unnoticed. I saw Garnett too, but I was like 9 at the time and all I remember was he was the really tall fast guy that kept dunking, so I couldn't count that as a good evaluation.
  16. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) I'm not looking for a reason as to why he has received no reps. I am saying that he has received no reps. There is no basis for speculation. I could say that Roger Clemens would be a better QB than Orton or Blake. It's almost the same difference. Roger Clemens wasn't an all Big 10 player at QB though.
  17. Oh man, I can't wait for the article blaming lack of team unity going back to the White House trip for why are aren't playing well during our first slump, that will be funny. As for the ceremony, it was akward and lame, just like every other sports champions ceremony at the White House, regardless of who the team and who the president is.
  18. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Why do you say that? Because of the throw he made in the Super Bowl? All I know is that Randle El has been in the NFL for a while now, and he gets no QB reps in practice. He'd get annihilated. Well the reason he gets no QB reps is he's the best special teams player and probably the 2nd best WR on the Steelers, and that Big Ben guy is pretty good too. I'm not even kidding, I think Antwaan is a better QB than Kyle Orton right now...call me crazy, I don't care.
  19. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) take uconn, their bigs are too much for a smaller nova team. Agreed, although I think Villanova has a great shot if they get hot from 3, and Lord knows it doesn't take much for them to do that.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) He's got to turn into a Ben Wallace type player. I think he's capable of that. Although I don't know if he'll ever be able to go against a center like Shaq, but the nice thing is there is only one Shaq. He can play guys like Jermaine O'Neal and I even think Duncan. Still needs more muscle mass, plus more confidence offensively (just enough to keep defenses honset where they can't just lay off him and double team others). Agreed on all counts. He can be a taller Ben Wallace eventually, and hell I'd take that in a f***ing second, and THAT would be worth the money easily.
  21. Oh, and as big a problem as it is that we have ZERO post scorers, it might be an even bigger problem that we have NOBODY besides Tyson who can guard a legit 4 or 5.
  22. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) And yet no mention of his special teams prowess. That is the most valuable facet of his game. He's a good #3 WR at best, and he sure as hell ain't no QB. Yep, he's going to be way overpaid by somebody. Oh, and he'd easily be the 2nd best QB on this current Bears roster, so I'd have to disagree in that regard (although it says more about Orton and Blake than it does Antwaan).
  23. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) No, I'm actually the President of his Fan Club. Of course I'm gonna get heated when people talk s***. Again, you evaluate tools, and the sky is the limit for Tyson. If you want to evaluate tools, then I agree with you. With his height, athletic ablilty, and wingspan, he could eventually lead the league (or be top 3) in rebounds and blocks every year for several years, and if he does that FOR FULL SEASONS, I'll say he's earning his money. But he can't be a good defender and rebounder, or even great, he has to be THE BEST (or close to it) in the NBA to earn his money, because he is never going to be a great or even good offensive player. That's all I'm saying. And for the record, I hope Tyson does turn into that because he seems like a real nice kid and I don't want to spend the rest of my basketball fan life wanting to kill myself over the Brand trade like I am right now.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) I have been lucky enough to see plenty of future NBAers at the High School level. Greg Oden is so far and away better than anyone else I have seen at 18 it isn't even funny. I did get to see guys like Jarred Jeffires, Bryce Drew, Zach Randolph, Lee Nailon, and some other guys who ended up being as highly rated, but huge busts such as Charles Macon. Greg Oden is going to be a star. Same here, I've seen a lot of these HS studs, and Oden is definitely the best. I'd probably put Quentin Richardson 2nd, I actually thought he'd have a better NBA career than he has. Interestingly I also saw Dwyane Wade in HS, but didn't think he had a prayer of ever seeing an NBA floor, so what do I know?
  25. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) If he rebounds like a madman and plays the type of defense that he's capable of, even without an offensive game, he is not overpaid. Are we in this for the rings, or what? If so, players like Chandler are top priority. I'll post OREB and overall REB numbers since Jan 21 in the NBA thread later on today. Sorry for cherrypicking. Witness a madman in the making. Nothing I didn't already know, as I evaluate guys based on tools, unlike a gang of motherf***ers. Just average a double double, that's all I ask from Tyson. If your making 12 or 13 million a year, please just score 10 and rebound 10 per game for the season. But I will be gone with my numbers seeing as it's Tyson, and It's pretty clear he's your brother or cousin or something.
