Would IU be interesting in Steve Lavin? He's a guy I actually think could do a very good job for them, although he REALLY seems to like his current job.

Well said Zoom, G'Town's backcourt IMO is the only reason they won't make the final 4. If they were more consistent, I'd say definite Final 4 material. As for WVU, I just don't trust a team that reliant on perimeter shooting. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) There are like 20 college coaches who are untouchable. Consider anyone else fair game for this job. Unfortunately, you seem to be under the impression that coaches won't want this job. I beg to differ. It will be highly coveted. Also, if you want to just post negative remarks about IU's program continuously, why even post? Just stay in your ILL threads if you cannot exhibit class. Krush, Steve and Addy certainly don't have this problem you have. I'm interested to know who all these people are. There are some great coaches out there obviously that would be interested in Indiana, but I'm not sure how much better off they'd be going to Indiana rather than staying at their current school. And my apologies if I don't suck the dick of all things Hoosiers to avoid disagreement, but I'm not one to simply agree with silly nonsense to avoid debate.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I know you'd love to see Indiana fail. Good for you. I don't want Few though. Indiana's problem has been defense for most of Davis' tenure, and Few certainly won't know how to cure that. No problem, anytime! I'm very interested to see who Indiana gets, the candidates out there aren't all that great, and this hire is very important in terms of what direction the Indiana program goes, as it could go either way right now.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me all that much if the Big East got 3 teams in the Final Four. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's a real possibility. UConn would be considered a disappointment if they didn't, Nova has a decent shot (especially if by some miracle Sumpter is back), Georgetown has the size and talent to beat anyone in the country, Pitt plays some really good defense, and even though I don't like them, West Virginia is another team that can do it if they get some good matchups or shoot the lights out. They've got a few top end teams, but the bottom few are brutal. I think UConn and Villanova will definitely be there, but it would take a hell of a favorable bracket for any other Big East teams to get there. But hey, you never know this year. -
Matta is not going anywhere. He's in a great situation, and the NCAA has their lips stuck too far up tOSU's ass to ever really punish him. I'd love to see Tubby Smith at Indiana, he's just like Mike Davis in that he took a bunch of the last coach's players to the title game (although Tubby won) and then gradually has gone downhill. Mark Few is a very interesting choice, Indiana could offer him way more than Gonzaga pays.

QUOTE(J-MAN @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) I think you're safe! Illini will be lucky to make the second round in the NCAA - NU without Vedran is a 1AA team and had one of the supposed best teams in the Big Ten tied! Not much chance of the Illini winning the Big Ten - after this week not sure anyone in the Big Ten deserves a 1-seed in the tournament! That's because the Big Ten doesn't have any great teams, but rather a bunch of good ones, which is exactly why Illinois could go 5-0 or 1-4 in this stretch and neither would surprise me much. If any Big Ten teams make the Final Four, it would be a miracle. -
When healthy, he's as underrated a player as you will find. The one and only key with Jermaine is to stay healthy, because he's a very steady and very good right fielder when he's not dealing with injuries.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) I think if given an everyday job while he might start a little slow Borchard will suprise a lot of people.....and I think if one of our OF's does get hurt Borchard would be the guy to go to over Mackowiak. I'm just going to pretend you forgot to put this in green and hope I'm right.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) There are plenty of people who can't see past the next pitch to understand that sometimes a loss can be beneficial down the road. Many other people have been preaching about Ozzies "Not for today, but for October" managing style since he got here. I'll say this again for everyone who spazzes out over every detail in a game... IT.DOESN'T.MATTER. Ozzie is looking at a game, a pitch, an AB today as an insight to what he can use and do in the playoffs/pressure games. How would Ozzie have known that Neal Cotts was his best set up man last year, if he had never tested him out in the roll early in the season, and instead stuck with the Jerry Manuel style of pigeonholing pitchers into specific rolls and innings? He wouldn't have. Its not a 100% science and sometimes guys aren't cut out for what he needs, and yes, it costs us a game in July. But if you will notice, in September and October, Ozzie always had the perfect move up his sleeve. That isn't a coincidence. That came because Ozzie knew his players and their abilities better than any other manager in baseball, because he had already tested them. Now I know that as soon as the season starts we'll have the usual suspects freaking out over everything, and that I am probably wasting my keyboard with this post, but maybe... just maybe, it will click for someone, and they can actually enjoy the games a little more, instead of losing sleep because Ozzie used Cliff Politte in a situation instead of Bobby Jenks. That is a good post, but to condense it it seems to me you think the problem people have with Ozzie is his experimentation with players in key spots, especially early in the year. To be honest with you, I have no problem with him doing that. It drives me nuts, but I understand it. There are many other issues with Ozzie that are of far bigger concern to me.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:35 AM) I can't believe you guys still can't see why Ozzie made the in games moves he did during the season. He kept his subs sharp and his regulars rested. He also showed in the post season that he can change when circumstances do. He kept running his regulars out there with a 'win today' mentality, which so many of you think he should have game in, game out throughout the course of a 162 game season. He shouldn't, and I for one am very happy he doesn't. Of course, I preached this all throughout the season last year, but I thought a WS championship would have convinced most of you doubters. I should have known better. There are certain things Ozzie does as a manager right now that will cause me to never be sold on his in game skills, regardless of what we win (hell, we could win again this year for all I know). He's a great clubhouse leader and the best manager in baseball during the 21 hours the game isn't being played, by a mile and a half, and that's worth something obviously. But his in game manager skills and strategy simply aren't very good, and I can't look past that. Yes, we won the damn WORLD SERIES last year, which means after a bad loss, I won't be on here freaking out all the time. But, I will sit whereever I was watching the game, whether it be at home, a friends house, or some restaurant, and think "Ozzie, WTF are you doing?" like I did after a lot of games the last 2 years.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) Would proof of the long-rumored rapes of minors do that? It would sicken me about as much as anything could, but not shock or surprise me. Nothing shocks or surprises me anymore in politics or war. -
I will enjoy this season and those after a lot more now that I did get to see us win it all once. That's the only "downer" of us winning it all, I won't have an unhealthy emotional attachment to us winning it all, since I've finally seen us do it, but i'll be as big a fan as ever of course. And with that said, I agree with all the complaints mentioned in this thread will be mentioned in 2006. As for me, the only one I think I will have is that I think Ozzie Guillen is easily the worst in game manager in our division among the top 4 teams. And you can put that quote in your sig if you want, because we could win the World Series again and I'll still think that. This team is ALL about pitching and home runs, and luckily we are going to be damned good at doing both.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Actually, we don't control our own destiny. Will need some help. The Penn State loss was an absolute killer. To get a piece of the title, we do. Only team ahead of us in the loss column is Iowa by 1, who we play at home. -

Illinois controls it's own destiny for a piece of the Big 10 title with 5 games to go. If they somehow were to pull this off, I will probably masturbate and die. -
I already quit a site I had several thousands posts at, and didn't leave a farewell message. No way in hell I'd do it here either, farewell messages are just so lame.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) I read an article that said the Pistons were going to wave Cato if they acquired him. Of course they are. Joe Dumars knows Cato is worthless, and he's only in the deal for contract evening out reasons. Dumars is the best GM in the game for a reason, watch that 1st rounder he got turn out to be some stud player. Even in a trade like this where Detroit seems to be getting beaten, they will probably end up winning. -

Not sure why this is breaking news, it's a 2 year old story. What these troops did was wrong, there isn't a single picture I could see that would shock or surprise me, heads need to roll in the army for it, and it's very wrong. But this story is 2 years old, can we please find something else to talk about? It's not like there is a lack of U.S. f*** ups for us to bring up on the news. -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) "There are psychos all over, regardless of if it's the internet or the club." Not on SoxTalk. Well obviously I wasn't counting SoxTalk, everybody here is perfectly normal and that's why I fit right in. Ha that's pretty wild, but if they turn out to last, more power to them.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) Well it would help teams big men could shot from 20-22 ft. Like in the NBA, I immediatly think of the Spurs (Duncan) and Mavs (Dirk). Both 7-footers who can shot from the outside I missed that memo that (1) there are players like Dirk in the NCAA and (2) Tim Duncan has 20 to 22 foot range on his shot. -
