  1. Levine is full of s***. Pretty simple, no way in hell this happens
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) I think it's more of a case that some of us over value our prospects then Kenny undervaluing them. Kenny hasn't made a trade in forever that has come back to bite us in the ass. That is correct sir. I serious wonder if we traded Pablo Ozuna and Joe Crede tomorrow for A Rod, with the Yanks picking up 100 percent of the contract, if people would complain that it weakened our bench...
  3. QUOTE(Stocking @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) we need bullpen arms And i'm not too concerned about finding somebody to replace the 2 mediocre ones we lost this offseason.
  4. QUOTE(Stocking @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) you guys are nuts Nah. It's pretty clear we are going for the jugular, and this is a NEW ERA for us Sox fans (and the team in general).
  5. Most everybody is forgetting 2 things here: 1. Most prospects don't pan out (yes most). 2. Waiting for the farm to grow is part of why we waited 88 f***ING YEARS to win a World Series.
  6. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) Anyone else think an Abreu deal is forthcoming? I don't know why, I just have a feeling it might happen. The Sox are pretty much the only team that has what they want. A Garland for really good OF deal is coming, and Abreu is the leading candidate...
  7. I'm still not sure why everybody hates this trade?? Is it the money?? Because otherwise, you hate giving up an injury prone, 45 year old pitcher making 5 mill a year, a prospect, and an average 30 year old bullpen arm for a 28 year old pitcher who has shown he can be very good when not in New York or air that kills a breaking ball. I just don't get it......unless it's the money, as for that, wait and see, apparently we are getting some dough in this deal...
  8. You made my point for me....he's a PROSPECT. Kenny doesn't give a rat's ass about some prospect, who knows if he'll even be any good in the majors?? Kenny has shown that he will deal prospects to help improve the MLB ballclub, and it's worked out for him. So relax, have a beer, watching the World Series DVD. It's all good.
  9. Kenny can't hear the doubters.....he's got a ring stuck in his ear that is keeping the sound away. But seriously guys, trust Kenny. He took us to the promised land, and will do it again. And also, I think Duque may be getting a bit overvalued due to his Boston performance. He was hurt a lot last year, his regular season ERA blowed (and the only reason his record was decent was run support) and he's a well paid 45 year old. Giving up him, a serviceable arm, and a minor leaguer for Vasquez isn't all that bad (as long as we are getting money back, which we are). IMO Garland is next for an outfieder, and I like the way this team sets up to try and repeat.
  10. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) So if Garland isn't traded, I guess McCarthy will just take over the role that El Duque would have had with us in 2006 if he wasn't traded -- long reliever / spot starter out of the bullpen. Yes sir, that is how I see it playing out. But I still would be pretty surprised if we don't trade Garland for a solid to very good MLB outfielder (assuming the Vasquez thing does indeed happen).
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) So keep McCarthy in AAA and bring him up if and when there is an injury to a starter in the rotation. I guess that makes sense. But isn't McCarthy's service time up and running now? Ehh he is more valuable to us as the 6th starter/helping out of the pen than he is in AAA. We know he's a MLB pitcher, so hey if he has to wait a year to start, so be it. He can be a very valuable guy out of the pen IMO, and add depth to the pen and rotation. As for the service time thing, you sir are asking the wrong guy.
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) So keep a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, and Vazquez and then just let Garland go after 2006 and collect the draft picks? I can see that. But what does McCarthy do in the meantime? In this senario....B Mac pitches in key relief spots.... helps bridge the gap to the 9th if we don't get 7 out of the starter, and start whenever a starter is injured (which odds are good will happen to somebody at some point, the main point why we should keep Garland this year if we get Vasquez).
  13. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) I still think Garland stays. Sox near deal for D-Backs' Vazquez The only thing trading Garland compromises is pitching depth. But maybe your right....I just think K Dub isn't sold on a guy we haven't seen do it yet in the majors in Anderson.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) Is there any way that Kenny is looking to deal Garland and Uribe for Tejada? No, because Tejada isn't going anywhere.
  15. Also....as good as Young is, THE VERY LAST thing we need to do is worry about giving up a minor league OF in a trade that improves the major league club. We are as deep as any team out there at the OF spot in our organization.
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) I say Garland for Griffey because Griffey is a natural CF, probably would get dealt for SP because Cinci needs alot of it, and he's a great LH at bat. Plus we wouldn't have to move Pods from LF. Checkout the lineup: LF - Podsednik SS - Uribe DH - Thome 1B - Konerko CF - Griffey Jr. RF - Dye C - Pierzynski 2B - Iguchi 3B - Crede We all know how much Ozzie loves the lefty-righty matchups. This would be his wet dream come true. Amen. Also, somebody mentioned Abreu, also a possibility, hell we already dealt with Philly this offseason. But yeah, imagine somebody like that to add to the lineup, with the still awesome pitching staff we'd have even with Garland gone. I mean come on, our offense is WAY better with IMO only a marginal drop off (if that) in the SP.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Garland for Ken Griffey Jr??? I have absolutely zero clue who the outfielder would be, but you never know. And we wouldn't even have to ask the question "where would he play". Maybe Griffey, maybe somebody we aren't even thinking of from a contender (or team in general) that is desperate for a really good starter.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) As our current rotation stands, we have the best in the league. I strongly believe that. Oh I agree, and IMO it gets better with a Vasquez for Duque swap. It's just, we are 6 deep....and as nice as that is, we can trade Garland for a proven 3rd outfielder (even move Pods to CF to put a corner guy in left) rather than lose him after this season, and STILL have ONE OF the best in the game. Sounds pretty enticing if you as me.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Buehrle to the bullpen anyone? There's our 2nd lefty. There is a better chance of hell freezing over than that happening. No offense, although maybe your kidding.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Garland might be dealt. I don't think so though. I think Kenny will just ride him out for the year and then let him or Contreras go at season's end, depending on who does the worse this upcoming year. I hope your right and keep Garland to be honest. I just get the feeling that he is going to get dealt, especially assuming this happens and we get Vasquez. The way Kenny talks about the pitching market, I think there is just about no chance we sign Garland after next year, and Kenny is a shrewd guy and knows he can get a lot for Jon if he trades him this offseason (a proven OF?). Plus, the Buehrle/Count/Garcia/Vasquez/B Mac rotation is still one of the better ones in baseball. Just my opinion and speculation though, I've been plenty wrong before.
  21. Plus guys....even if this deal has nothing attached as a domino to it.....we are giving up the old and creeky El Duque for a 29 year old with a great arm that IMO with Coop could be awfully good....a prospect (a good one, but yeah so was Jeremy Reed, we know how Kenny feels about them) and maybe a relief pitcher. I like the deal by itself to be honest with you.
  22. I think this deal is a clear sign that Garland is going to get dealt. B Mac is READY to start, simple as that, and Garland would be gone after this year for nothing. Say we trade Duque and Young for Vasquez, then trade Garland. That leaves us with Buehrle, Contreras, Garcia, Vasquez, B Mac as the rotation next year. Not bad at all. Plus we might we something awfully sweet in a deal where we give up Garland, even if he's a rental pitcher (quality pitching ain't easy to find!) Just trust Kenny guys, he's not dumb.
  23. HOW COULD THEY CUT WADE, THEY ARE 9-4 WITH HIM THIS YEAR!!! /Orton defender (And yes, I know this post is asking for trouble).
  24. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) f***in finals studying - screwin' with my head. Lemme try again... Gordon+Cole+ROSE= Just gotta land Rose now. But Bruce can't recruit!!! :rolly I think the Illini are going to get Rose as well, and that is some kind of recruiting class.....the cupboard is filling up in a hurry. (Btw, that comment wasn't directed at you WHarris, just a general comment towards the Weber haters).
  25. Texas is going to get killed by anybody that can shoot 3's. In a game early this year against West Virginia, they got KILLED from beyond the arc and only won because WV couldn't make a free throw in the last minute, and then we all saw the Duke game. Also, how is Kentucky ranked?? They blow. Also, I think we will find out as time goes on that #1 and #2 in this poll are in the wrong order.
