  1. Kotsay probably lit up Lowe in a game 10 years ago, so it makes sense he'd be hitting 3rd.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Maybe he started listening to him? I wonder if anybody will give Walker any credit for Rios ever.
  3. I said it'd be happy with 2 of 3 against Atlanta, and stand by it. Apparently, looking at that lineup, Ozzie agrees with me. At least Paulie is in and Dayan gets a game though, so it could be worse.
  4. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) Totally, because RBIs are completely dependent on the player at bat and no one else on the team. Did anyone actually read what he said? He didn't say they were meaningless, he said they were overrated. Do you actually think RBIs are a good way of judging an individual players talent? Even if you're the best player in baseball, if no one is on base in front of you, you won't rack up high RBI totals. Obviously better players create more run producing situations, but without teammates that get on base, it doesn't matter how good a hitter you are.. you aren't going to get a lot of RBIs. There are much better metrics for evaluating an individual that take the team's impact out of the equation. Yep. Q has an inflated RBI total to a certain degree because he's been a WAY better hitter with men on base (which means i'm sure somebody will say he's "clutch" too, lol), but his numbers with men on base and the bases empty will level out eventually (hopefully more towards the ones with men on base). The biggest reason for his inflated RBI total is the amount of chances he's had. It's great to hit way better with men on base, but it doesn't mean a lot if they aren't there much. Fortunately for Q, he's in the one spot in the lineup where there are men on base all the time (behind our two best players).
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) Carlos hasn't looked this good since the last week of 09. Well that's the encouraging part. He's not just being opportunistic at times and getting RBI's because Rios and Konerko are on base in front of him all the time. He's hitting a lot better overall the last week or so, and his slugging percentage is on a major climb (which is obviously really important for him). That RBI total will tickle the fancy even more if he can hit for power, because Konerko and Rios show no signs of not continuing to be on base in front of him.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Because they don't keep score or anything... They do. They also keep count of all the outs you make too though, and the fact that Q had an OPS under 700 as recently as about a week ago. A lot more to an offensive player than RBI's and batting average.
  7. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) Beckham f***ing sucks right now. He has to be one of the worst starters in the league. When the hell is he going to figure it out? Kalapse would know better than I, but i believe he has the worst OPS and/or slugging percentage in baseball among those with enough at bats to qualify.
  8. I honestly can't see why they WOULDN'T come here if there is room for both of them (other than if Miami could somehow get them both and keep Wade I guess, but we'll see about that). Make it happen, GarPax.
  9. I really think Bosh and James are coming if the Bulls can make room for 2 full boats. I'm still not sure how they'll do that though, and I think it'd be tough to get Bosh in a sign and trade. Of course, LeBron might come here anyways, but that'd help.
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) Let's all laugh at Italy, let's all laugh at Italy.... Not yet. I've seen them screw around too many times in the group stage and somehow scramble through it last second. They have some major issues right now though. I hope New Zealand finds a way to somehow get a win and advance here, it'd be an amazing story.
  11. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) I'm not a capologist by any means, but here's what I come up with. They are at $53,414,670 with Huets contract. His $5.625 will not be on the books which puts them at $47,789,670 for the players below. Kane, Patrick Toews, Jonathan Hossa, Marian Sharp, Patrick Bolland, Dave Versteeg, Kris Kopecky, Tomas Reasoner, Marty Brouwer, Troy Campbell, Brian Keith, Duncan Seabrook, Brent $11,610,330 under the cap. They need to sign Niemi and Hammer both with pay increases. Let's say their at 3 and 1.5 respectively. Ladd was at 1.6 lets say they bring him up to 2. If Crawford is the backup, he should stay at 800. That would leave them at $4,310,330 under the cap and they'll need 3 more forwards and 3 more defenseman. Pretty tight. Maybe they can get Ladd at 1.8. Good resource for cap info. http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=11# Thanks for the info, those numbers are about what i'd have guessed if you are indeed accurate (which I'd guess you are).
  12. I think he'd already be in the minors had Teahen not got injured. I still think he needs to be sent down though. As some have mentioned, he needs to be sent down even more now that we're in the actual race because he's really hurting the team. But even beyond that, it's obvious his confidence is shot, and I'm not sure he can get it back without a trip down to find his swing. I think every day further he's up here struggling will make it harder for him to turn it around, which means keeping him here not only hurts our present, but could also hurt our future.
  13. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) That is an absurd statement.... yes driving in runs is completely meaningless........ Like I said (but you apparently didn't notice), I wouldn't go as far as to say it's meaningless. However, you can drive in as many runs as you want, but if you're doing it with a high 600's OPS like Q was for most of this year, it doesn't mean anywhere near as much as people tend to think it does because you're still hurting your team offensively overall. RBI's have some value, and it's good Q has contributed quite a few of them even though he was a bad offensive player for almost the entire season until what appears to be a recent turnaround, but nowhere near that which some people think.
  14. Making up a serious relationship/soon to be marriage with Chase Blackwood just seems way too random for it being made up to be an option in my opinion.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) Quentin's on pace for 110 rbi's or something stupid like that. Pretty wild considering how awful he's been for the majority of the season. Hopefully he's back now but as some others have said, I'm not sold yet. Yeah, Q's RBI total and pace shows just how overrated (if not meaningless, although I wouldn't go that far) RBI's really are.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 01:08 AM) Colin Fraser dealt to Edmonton for a 6th round pick. Via Dan Tencer from Edmonton, a reporter. Nothing official yet. So according to NHL Numbers, the Hawks have 53.382 committed in cap hits for next year, which is 6.018 under the cap. UFA: Boynton Johnsson Burish Madden RFA: Ladd Hjalmarsson Hendry Niemi It looks like Versteeg needs to go. That'd clear out another 3.083. Yeah I think one more guy for sure (probably Steeger) has to go. After that, it's kind of a guessing game in my opinion.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) With the cap going up 2.6 million to 59.4 as well, it was a pretty fabulous day for Bowman and the Blackhawks. This immensely improves your chances of holding on to Hjalmarsson, Niemi, and Ladd. I'm fairly certain their next order of business is to dump Huet as fast as possible. Then it comes down to Versteeg and Ladd. Sharp isn't goin anywhere, thats for sure. If they get a offer they really like for Versteeg, they'll jump on it. But don't be surprised if they cut down all this salary and then start spending when Free Agency starts. I don't think it'll be something significant, but I wouldn't rule it out. If they were smart, they use the extra space to re-sign Hammer, Niemi, and then get Seabrook an extension. Bingo.
  18. Am I wrong to think this is an absolutely awesome trade? I didn't think there was any way in the world Buff, Sopel, and Eager along with what this year at least appeared to be a flamed out prospect could bring this much back. I hate to see Buff go, but I really like the move, and think it's the best they could have done (and more) considering the circumstances. The next question is how many more guys have to be moved, and what happens with Huet? (I think it's pretty clear Campbell is going nowhere.) Any info on what Bowman said in the conference call?
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 12:21 AM) The trouble is; he had a 9 for 19 / 12 for 31 stretch in the middle of May. He's gotta keep this up for another week or 2 before I believe he's back, he's fooled me before and I don't want to get my heart broken again. Funny, that's how I feel about the Sox in general right now (although they obviously never really had a good stretch of play before the one they're in the middle of right now.)
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) Baseball is indeed a strange sport. Who the hell are these guys? If this last week of crazy production by Carlos is the real deal then welcome to legitimate playoff discussion, White Sox. Big point in the bold, I think the potential ressurection of Carlos Quentin is the most exciting thing I've seen recently other than obviously the wins and pitching. We're going to need something like that (as well as Jenks pitching well) to continue if this team is going to be a legitimate contender. You are also right though that baseball is a strange sport, and wondering who the hell these guys are. I have never been more shocked at a stretch of play by the Sox, good or bad, than I am at the one the Sox have been on the last two weeks. Even with the weaker schedule, I don't think anybody could have seen this coming. It's a heck of a time though, and now at a couple games over break even and 3.5 out, this team is legitimately back in the race for now if nothing else. Hopefully this continues.
  21. This thread looks absolutely brilliant right now. We need to keep it up the rest of the month though, the schedule is there to make up even a little more ground.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 12:38 AM) I'm still comprehending this In recent years, if the Blazers had made different choices, they could enter this season with Paul/Roy/Durant/Aldridge/Cousins Yeah, they have some talent, but it could be a WAY better situation there right now.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Here's the latest on the Hawks, via numerous sources: Seven players are absolutely untouchable: Toews, Kane, Hossa, Bolland, Keith, Searbrook, and Sharp. Bowman has alerted teams that the price for Byfuglien is a 1st round pick and a prospect. Vertseeg is apparently the guy that most teams want (yes please). Ladd is openly being shopped with, ironically, Vancouver being very interested. Like what i'm seeing in this post.
  24. I saw the Hawks are going to have Brent Sopel and the Stanley Cup at the Pride parade this weekend. This was a really good call on their part, particularly after some of the Pronger stuff last series with the Chrissy thing and the picture with "is gay" next to his name in the locker room. Even beyond that though, it sends a good message and continues their efforts to continue expanding their audience.
  25. Pardon me if I missed this, but are you two dating, engaged, or married? Regardless of the answer, I wish the guy the best of luck, and hope you keep posting some of the insider info i've started to see around here from you lately. Oh, and I guess on topic in the thread, Chase went 1 for 3 last night.
