  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) You can't do this, though. You can't change fair/foul calls that have already been ruled foul. Same thing for catch/no catch. You wouldn't be able to reverse it with runners on, as you're putting the offense or the defense at an advantage there. If a foul ball kills the play after 2 seconds and everyone stops, do the umpires just make up where all the base runners would have advanced to (with no chance to throw them out at a base)? Do you put the ball back in the corner and re-do the play? Can't really do that. You would be playing too much imaginary baseball and there'd be more arguments. There's enough as it is when it comes to fan interference, obstruction, etc. where umpires have to place base runners. On certain plays, it's just not possible. Kind of like you can't have a HR ruled on the field and then overturn it and say it actually hit the wall and is a live ball. So the system now shouldn't be tweaked? There is no perfect system, but replay could easily be expanded significantly.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 11:52 PM) I feel bad for Jim Joyce since he admitted fault. Replays should be allowed. But you know, Bud Selig will come out and say that human error makes the game fun. All human error does is change history. To allow human error, rather than easily fix it, is simply idiotic.
  3. I'm not worried about this. That was a MAJOR kick in the balls way to lose and it sucks, but I still think the Hawks are ok. The thing that has separated these teams in this series is effort, and I think the Hawks will have their best effort level game on Friday. That is why I think it'll be 3-1 coming back to Chicago, but even if it isn't, the Hawks STILL have home ice. Nobody said this was going to be easy, other than the people who underestimated the Flyers.
  4. I don't think you can suspend or fine an umpire for a human error. Stuff like that should be saved for Joe West, who had some sort of agenda and was calling balks that clearly weren't balks (they weren't even close) and throwing people out of the game for no reason. Joyce just made a mistake, a really bad mistake, but a mistake nontheless. And MLB can't just overturn the missed call, how do you think the 1985 Cardinals and teams like that would feel? It'd be unfair to them. They are stuck with this mistake and that is that. I actually feel REALLY bad for Jim Joyce. The technology is there so that he shouldn't have to be the villian. If it were being used like it SHOULD (there should be replay on everything except ball/strike calls, and it's common sense), then he wouldn't have to live the rest of his life knowing he took a perfect game away. I know the umpires job is to get it right, but they are human. The technology is there so that this should never happen, and it's on Bud Selig and MLB that it's not being used. This is their fault more than it is Jim Joyce's, and I hope this is fixed VERY soon.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) This. Though they still rock out Cubs hats at bars, most Cub fans (and sox fans) are all about the Hawks right now (though it has been like this for a couple of months now). wsf101 is 100% correct on this post. It seems like not only most Cubs and Sox fans are all about the Hawks, a lot of non sports fans are too. This town just goes nuts when a potential championship is in progress.
  6. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) So, taking the game puck is that big of a deal in hockey? Eager cared that much to get in his face about it? It's a classic case of violating an unwritten rule.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Cowley really went out on a limb with that. The guy seems miserable covering the Sox. He mocks them whenever he can. Maybe he should quit. Haha he's used to covering teams that are either competitive or interesting. This team is neither, unless somebody gets fired.
  8. That loss would really hurt but for the fact our games are irrelevant these days.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Or its just that the manager just doesn't really f***ing matter all that much in baseball and I'll stick with the guy with the ring over another guy if its all the same. Or maybe if your manager is also your GM. I said it earlier, Ozzie needs to manage and KW needs to put the team together. Tell that to Ozzie. He's the one that wanted to (and did to a certain degree) play co-GM this past winter.
  10. It appears Kotsay individually left 9 men on base tonight. Wow.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Thats not my point. My point is how stupid the argument is in the first place: when the team is good, the manager is awesome; when the team is s***, the manager is horrible. The 2006 and 2008 teams were not bad, and he still did a lousy job managing them. 2005 was fun, but at some point, the capital from that runs out.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) So the Cubs attendance is down? Only 1 sellout thus far this season? Avg-ing 93 percent full. Bad economy, bad team, and a good hockey club can do that I guess. I'm a bit surprised by that though, however they have been doing a lot more ticket advertising this year I've noticed. Maybe even some of their fans have a breaking point.
  13. The Rangers were right in the middle of the AL in offense entering tonight. 9 runs and 19 hits later despite a strike zone as wide as the BP oil spill, and they'll be a little better. Our pitching staff can cure many offensive ills.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) I love that argument. Ozzie cost us this season, clearly not the fact that 7/9 hitters were Goes back to the same old argument: he wins a WS, but he didn't really do all that much. He has a s*** team and its all his fault. 0% logic Should Ozzie have a lifetime contract because of 2005?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) It's Ozzie's fault that our hitters make Darren Oliver look like Sandy Koufax. Bad baseball team. With a 1.65 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, Oliver has made a lot of hitters look bad this year. His age is irrelevant in that regard.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Yet Ozzie HAS to go because he made Beckham, AJ, Q, Alexei, Teahan, and Pierre suck ass for 2 months. Logic is missing here at times, the only thing that needs to change is KW has to build the team, not Ozzie. Ozzie is a terrible in game manager. It's seen almost on a nightly basis similar to what has gone on tonight. KW should go first if I had to pick an order, but they both should go.
  17. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) I also find it funny that the meathead contingent of our fandom believes that there is a lot of luck involved in the Twin past and present success, ie, the astroturf, the baggie, the roof on their old stadium, etc, etc. All I kept hearing all winter was how terrible the Twins were going to play outdoors in their new stadium. What these people dont get is the fact that the Twins have been kicking our ass for 10 years now and will continue to do so for a long time. There was luck involved with their success, as they built a small market, small payroll team around their ballpark. But they've transitioned into the new ballpark nicely by building a bigger payroll, bigger market type roster around the knowledge that their new ballpark will be full everyday. That's why they are still good now, even though they won't be winning any AL Pennants with that starting staff. As for our season, it's been over for a long time. I'd wait to make moves until July (other than dumping AJ since we have to soon) since you'll get more offers and thus more value then, but we're done and have been. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) I'd like to know who we could've added that would've offset the crap that has been Beckham, CQ, Ramirez, Floyd, Peavy, Buehrle and Jenks? This isn't aimed at you, but I get so sick and tired of the constant venom spewed towards Ozzie and Kenny. Blame some of these f***in' million dollar players that are s***tin' the f***in' bed. You can't fire 25 players, but you can fire the manager and GM who oversee the 100 million dollar payroll that is going to be below .500 for the 3rd time in 4 years.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Texas has a ton of hits against our awesome pitching staff. We were supposed to revolutionize baseball with our rotation this year. I'm pretty shocked at how bad our pitching is. I'm surprised people aren't calling for the head of Don Cooper yet.
  19. The only reason i'm confident Ozzie and/or KW will be gone after the season if not sooner is the bottom line. Uncle Jerry is notoriously loyal especially with the Bulls, but that building is full or just about full every night. When the building is empty and the payroll is high, heads will roll. Reinsdorf isn't cheap, but if the bottom line is bad, he'll do something, just like any other good businessman.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) I didn't f***ing mention Jenks. I mentioned some people on here want Putz to be the closer. Who brought up Jenks? I have said many times I wouldn't be against Thornton closing if that's what Oz wants to do. You guys are the ones bringing up jenks. You mentioned the closer situation, thus you brought up Jenks.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) If you guys don't think Putz gave up a big hit there, what can I tell you? We disagree. If you think Jenks is better than Putz, then you can't be taken seriously as a poster.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) I'd just like to LOL and Sigh at BP's sponsorship of the crosstown cup. Most appropriate sponsorship ever, all things considered.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Alexis Rios. With that contract and his history of inconsistent effort, he still has modest trade value at best IMO.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) I don't see the point of giving KW a role like that. Either you want him making the decisions or you don't. If you don't let him go home. I agree, but it sounds like something Uncle Jerry would do. Oh, and in response to greg, the Cubs aren't getting any attention either really, but they are the Cubs, so they are getting more attention than us. We really are the afterthoughts right now, and will be even moreso if the Bulls have a good July. I'm willing to take the punishment of this season if I can get a Blackhawks Stanley Cup title and the heads of KW and Ozzie on a platter in exchange though. Really, I'd take it just for the Stanley Cup thought. I feel REALLY bad for those of you who aren't hockey fans.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Agreed, and it's also why I think one or both of KW and Ozzie are going to get fired/re-assigned after this season is over. As someone called us on the radio today, we're the Chicago Afterthoughts! Ozzie fired, KW takes a President of Baseball Operations type role?
