  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Yep, less than 20,100 people on a great weather day (outside of rain for 10 minutes) with no other games in town and some schools out = PANIC Unless we put up some kind of run this month, people are going to be surprised at the level of moves that are made either this trade deadline, this offseason, or some combination of both. This payroll is not sustainable with this level of fan interest. Of course, it's the fault of the men in charge that a team with this much payroll is this pathetic.
  2. Less people at the Sox game tonight than the Hawks game last night, probably haven't had something like that happen since the mid 1990's. How many men have we left on base tonight?
  3. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox01.article I know most around here don't like Cowley, but do you agree with him? I know this much: his ideas to "clean up the mess" aren't things I necessarily agree with.
  4. Hawks have beaten Philly in a high scoring game, in a low scoring game, and in two close games. Not to mention, the Hawks are going on the road, where they have been awesome. The Hawks certainly haven't played their best game by a long shot, but keep finding a way to win. I can't imagine a sweep, but the Hawks should be able to get a split in Philly if they play their game, and that's all that is really needed.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) You guys are crazy. Kobe could have yours, mine or anybody's elses GF/wife if he wanted. He didn't rape that tramp. She voluntarily went to his hotel room by herself late at night for what? Milk and cookies? Yeah, anybody at a party 3 days after a "rape" bragging and talking about the unit of the "rapist" is really a victim.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Congrats Jason. It is the beginning of the greatest years of your life! You are clearly in one of the 10 percent of marriages that won't end in divorce. In all seriousness, congrats. Good luck to Chisoxfn that he's found a marriage that is also in that group!
  7. The rampant overconfidence among what seems to be the majority of Hawks fans about this series might actually have me even more nervous than the Flyers. I hope the Hawks aren't buying into this.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Yeah, beating cancer was probably to cover up doping for a bike race. All the physical and mental struggle he went through was probably nothing. This is precisely why he deserves so much credit for the way he's used defeating cancer. There are tons of people who will simply never believe he uses PED's because he beat such a brutal disease. Obviously, anybody who can defeat cancer (especially a case as bad as Lance had) is incredibly brave and worthy of praise in that regard, but a doper is a doper is a doper.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ May 30, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) He certainly bought his wife a big enough ring. No one really knows for sure, except Kobe and the accuser. Well the ring proves he cheated on her. Kobe isn't a very good or likable guy, but I'm not sure you can call him a rapist when the case didn't even go to trial.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) You think Kenny doesn't understand it? I think he understands it, but just chooses to ignore it. Which is beyond unfortunate.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Link I think he's in too deep to stop lying about it now. I understand jealousy and such exists on the parts of many of his accusers, but i'm also a believer in where there's smoke, there's fire. And while the "fire" hasn't been found on Lance Armstrong's cheating yet, there has been enough smoke to blanket a large city on the subject.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Soooooooo, he DIDNT beat cancer? Lance DEFINITELY deserves credit: he's used beating cancer to hide being a cheater and a bad guy better than almost anybody else could in my opinion.
  13. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) On a positive note, at least I can find Beckham jerseys for outrageously low prices these days. Keep your head up - always look for the positives. I'm a glass-is-half-full type of guy. Sometimes, the glass is half full because somebody drank half of your drink and then spiked it with a date rape drug while you were in the bathroom.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) In fairness, he isn't talking about "our country", he is talking mostly about "our government". Well I don't know how anybody could like our government. Although I guess if you hate the government, who is largely voted in by the people, that means the people are dumb too and we're all screwed. So maybe he has a point even if he hates everybody.
  15. He had two hard hit outs, a single, and very narrowly missed a home run last night. He's looked better at the plate the last few days, hopefully it's a sign.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) One of the reasons I like Ozzie so much is whenever he speaks I end up agreeing with what he says. How can you agree with this? Jenks sucks and has sucked for a very extended perod of time now. If Ozzie were telling the truth in saying Jenks will dictate how long he will be out there, he wouldn't be out there. I'm assuming they will do everything they can to let Jenks get his trade value up though, so we're going to see him continue closing and the Sox slinging bull s*** about how much they like how he's throwing. Unfortunately, the getting some good for Bobby Jenks in a trade horse has long since left the barn.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) It worked great for the last 8 years! I am being hyperbolic in thinking out loud here, but I sometimes wonder if you even like our country. It's hard to find examples of you saying positive things about it, even when referring to the left.
  18. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:50 AM) Honestly the Bulls are one of THE most loyal organizations in the NBA in terms of organizational involvement from former players. The Jay Williams example is also a very good one, and Jay had a few quotes today saying how wrong Wade is. What a pathetic effort by Wade, who is obviously staying in Miami, to try and deter free agents from signing in Chicago. Yeah I'm not worried about it, because anybody that even does a google search could find just how loyal the Bulls are to former players. It was just an ignorant thing said by somebody who is apparently an ignorant guy, and I doubt it does much.
  19. QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 28, 2010 -> 06:37 AM) Well, say the Bears (a cold weather team) and the Chargers (a warm weather team) end up in the Super Bowl. And said Super Bowl was being played in Foxboro. Based on many arguments here the Bears would have an unfair advantage. What if, however, two weeks before, the Chargers beat the Steelers in AFC championship game which was being played in Pittsburgh? I can see both sides of the argument, but I still think the Super Bowl should be played on occasion outside of Florida, California, or a dome. Yes, weather can be a factor in a game. But a snowy field or a wet field or a foggy field is going to affect both teams, not just the team that plays its home games in a dome or under the sun. They could always try to balance the playing field by having a guest referee by the name of Joe West. In response to the bolded though....if you play they game in a dome or warm weather site where the weather isn't going to be a factor the vast majority of the time (Bears/Colts being basically the only exception I can think of), the conditions aren't going to determine the champion, who plays better football is. If you play the game in cold and wet weather, yeah both teams are going to have to deal with it, but the conditions still play a large role in who wins. I am not a fan of that.
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 27, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) Nice to see Bulls fans on here not wanting Wade now after today. Like it or not, FA's are going to look at how the VDN / Paxson scenario played out, and those type of organzational factors when making their decision, and obviously there are some flaws with the GM / Owner scenario, but you could say that for a lot of teams in the NBA. PHX deserved better tonight, but they just didn't play well in the 1st half at all. I'll give major props to Steve Nash though, he was superb tonight. Nice to see a little Dragic vs. Vujacic tonight also, those 2 certainly don't respect each other much. I don't want Wade anyways. He's a guy that I don't think is going to last long term due to all of the punishment he's taken, plus he's a bad guy. Today's comments prove he isn't leaving Miami though (although that was obvious all along), and it's pretty sad he just resorted to flat out lies. Did the Bulls not take care of MJ when they gave him 30 million a year at the end of his career? Did they not take care of Scottie when they did the sign and trade? Or when they brought him back in 03-04 despite the fact he was clearly done? Stupid s*** from Wade. As for tonight, that's why the Lakers have the rings and the Suns don't. Great teams find a way to win that game, and the Suns needed another play or two to try and move into that category. The Suns got caught watching the ball, not boxing out, AND off guard by the air ball on the last play. I guess one lucky play in Richardson's bank shot deserves another in the air ball leading to a win though. Suns aren't dead yet, they obviously have a great chance at home, and then you never know if it goes 7 (although good luck winning a game 7 at LA.) QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 27, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) BTW Kobe never makes GW shots in the playoffs. And he's 5 wins away from a 5th ring while nearly putting up a triple double tonight. He's not Michael Jordan, but he's pretty darned good, regardless of his GW shot resume in the playoffs.
  21. I am not a fan of the weather potentially causing an ugly championship game, and possibly playing a large role in who wins the game. I am not outraged over it because a lot of big playoff games are played in crap weather, but I think playing the game on a warm weather site or in a dome is just a much better idea.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) Well, they've played NJ who is a f***ing good team and the Flyers played the Hawks and beat them. Their top 2 lines match very evenly with the hawks as well as the top 4 d pairings. The hope is that the overall depth for the Hawks will prevail, but that is a small percentage of ice time in a cup series like this, especially for the blueliners. The bolded couldn't possibly be less relevant, and you know that. It was one meeting during the post Olympic haze with Huet in net, and the Flyers pulled out a miraculous win in the last minute. However, you are right about the top two lines for Philly matching up reasonably evenly. People seem to have this idea that Philly is 4 lines deep at forward now because their reserves played well against Boston the last 4 games and Montreal though, and I'm just not buying that at all because Boston was injured and not very good, and Montreal's team built on tiny players was pretty obviously tired from the first two rounds. Overall depth will prove to be important if it's a long series, as well as if the top two lines wash each other out, and I think both of those scenarios are very possible. That's why I think Hawks in 6 is probably a good pick for the series.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 25, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) I wouldnt. The Flyers were one of the popular picks to make it to the cup at the beginning of the year, they are very evenly matched with the Hawks. They aren't evently matched, even with the Flyers now healthy. The Flyers also haven't played a team anywhere in the same universe as the Blackhawks in terms of talent in these playoffs. They do have a good team though (albeit not as deep as the Hawks), and are strong on defense with some hot goal scorers up front, so the Hawks aren't going to smash them. However, it would be a significant upset if the Hawks don't win.
  24. http://blog.sarcasmsociety.com/government/...the-racist.html My favorite part of this is that although it's from the "sarcasm society," you will see somebody try and make that point while being dead serious. Guaranteed.
  25. The officiating in the first half of tonights game has been laughable. League doesn't want two sweeps and a long period of no games apparently.
