The trophy should just stick with whoever leads the all time series, since that's a larger sample size than one season. I'm not a fan of this though, Cubs/Sox is already idiotically overblown. It'll be even worse this year since both teams suck and aren't going anywhere.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) The Steelers were pushing the NFL for the suspension to be tougher. The NFL couldn't really have done more. Had the suspension been longer than 4 game with good behavior, the NFLPA would have lost it's mind. As it is even now, I bet they aren't too pleased. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) You can't be a step ahead of anyone when you have Soriano's contract on your books for the next several years. Yeah, their new people are going to have some serious contract issues to work on.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) All you have to do is look at the development of the young players and the regular season improvements we have seen since Q took over. The young players have gotten better, but windows in the NHL to win are small with the cap as it is, and if they lose to Nashville, this entire season was a complete waste. I see nothing that suggests to me Q can take this team beyond where they were in last years playoffs either. He's not going to be gone after this season though, so if the Hawks can't rally in this series, we'll just have to hope they stay healthy and improve in the playoffs next year I guess. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Their bullpen plan is to what our offensive plan was this year. Both front offices should be fired for having such a high payroll with such glaring holes. Well their manager won't be back in 2011, and I think there's a distinct chance their GM won't be either. We'll probably be stuck with both of ours though still. Does that mean, *shudders*, that the Cubs are actually a step ahead of us?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Thats funny cause Q was hired in the first place because Savard could only take them to a certain point, and Q was supposed bring them to the next level. I remember finding that decision puzzling at the time too, given Q's playoff history. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) ATTENTION WHITE SOX FANS: PLEASE DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO SECTION 148, ROW 14, SEAT 5 - THAT'S ONE LONELY f***ER THERE , HE MUST HAVE NO FRIENDS - BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! I can't picture the always collected, voice of god sounding Gene Honda saying this. It'd be pretty awesome though. "One more time, can we get a big round of laughter at that lonely mother f***er in row 14!" -

Why wouldn't you call the Steelers if you're the Rams? Bradford could be really good, but we already know Big Ben is a sure thing if he keeps his dick in his pants. -

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Totally dude, I was just joking. Imagine like 30 thousand pointing and laughing at him though. Haha I knew you were joking, but I wasn't sure if the dude that started the thread would realize it. Apparently I'm in a nice mood today or something? Anyways, 30 thousand people pointing and laughing would be pretty impressive. They put you on the scoreboard and the whole place just busts out. Make an entertaining in between innings. -

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I can just picture people pointing and laughing at him and we are telling him to go it will be fine. LOL I don't think i've ever been to a sporting event by myself. But I've gone to movies and things of that nature alone and there was no problem, so I can't imagine it'd be much different. And besides, in the unlikely event somebody does such a thing, a person that points and laughs is probably just an asshole not worth worrying about anyways. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) He and Hossa would be nice. Sadly the only guys I think really playing well are Sopel, Kane and the Swedish Hammer. Q is a .500 coach in playoffs maybe that is all we are going to get with him. This team does not look like it can adjust to anything Nashville is doing. If they lose this series and fire Q, I wouldn't shed a tear. I don't think that's going to happen, but if Q is really just a coach that can get you to a certain point and that's it like his resume suggests, a change isn't a bad idea. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) "Guilty even if proven innocent" He hasn't been proven innocent, not even close. There just wasn't enough there to prove without a reasonable doubt that he was guilty, and there is a big difference between the two. Such a scenario keeps him out of jail, but doesn't automatically excuse him from the wrath of his employer. Anyways, the time between now and the top 10 picks of the draft tomorrow night is certainly very intriguing with this news, even moreso than it already was. -

The thought that going to stuff alone isn't socially acceptable is kind of a silly myth. It takes away the idea (which a couple of people in this thread have mentioned they've done) of just spontaneously doing something fun, even if you can't find somebody to go with on short notice. Nobody is going to laugh at you or point at you for going by yourself, so I'd say do it. -

Well serves me right for being optimistic, I won't make that mistake again with this squad. They didn't even look ready to play tonight, which is inexcuseable. Better be ready for game 4, because you're next to dead if you don't get that one. Niemi has given up one bad goal in 3 games, I would have told you the series is 3-0 Hawks if you would have given me that nugget before the series. The offense simply is not using the mixture of patience and common sense it takes to beat the trap right now, and combine that with Rinne playing well and it's a big problem. Obviously forechecking, simple passes, screens, shots when they are available, logical things like that are needed to beat this trap. But the Hawks haven't done anything like that in this series so far, it's just been the same old cute crap with too many long passes/passes in general and not enough shots and bodies in front along with a forecheck. Also, it'd be nice if the captain decided to show up for this series at some point. A lot of people haven't shown up obviously, but Toews' absence has been especially noteable. -
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Just like Thome. The team won't be disillusioned into thinking they can just win despite having one of the most pathetic offenses in the major leagues like they were this offseason. They'll have to make some actual moves to improve the offense in accordance with the standards of the American League this upcoming winter.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) THe Bulls have a pick swap with the Bucks. So, unless they defied the odds and some how get into the lottery, that pick was going to go the the Bucks. So, instead of giving them the 11th pick, which they'd likely have gotten had they missed the playoffs, they instead gave the Bucks the 15th pick in exchange for the 17th. By making the playoffs we've given James Johnson and Taj Gibson some runs in the big show, and given the core kids a chance to shock the world. I don't think we should be complaining about losing to the best. Well yeah, that's what I had in mind....the miracle being they maybe move into the top 10, as it has happened recently against the odds. I don't think James Johnson getting dunked on by LeBron a few times and seeing Taj Gibson put up his typical workmanlike effort 4 or 5 times in a playoff atmosphere before going home is worth losing that chance.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:34 AM) There's no doubt in my mind PK would accept any trade in that scenario. I'd tend to agree. He could always come back in 2011 and DH if he likes it here anyways. We need all hands on deck in terms of guys who can even potentially hit for the forseeable future, unless of course all of our prospects turn out great or we go on a spending spree.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 01:50 AM) How? Because an outside shot at 2008 esque lottery magic is better than getting crapped on by The King for a little over a week and going home. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:01 AM) I don't think Jordan or Kobe ever danced around on the court.. in live play. (or even on the bench for that matter) They are both too classy for that sort of thing. (OFF the court.. well that's another story) The only ways they would show you off is dropping 50 in your face. I got no problems with LeBron talking to the Bulls bench, the player(s) who is guarding him, etc.. That's part of the game, the competitiveness. But dancing on the court, taking pics, doin the two step, etc..? ...The f*** is that s***. Guys like Rodman probably fouls him very hard pulling that bulls*** when he drives to the lane, but this is the "new" NBA. It's really sad when a younger star (Durant) shows he's more mature than you are. But I guess it depends on the person. (not to mention going to college, even if it was for a year) Fair enough. The only point of contention I have with this is that the Rodman style hard fouling tactics would be iffy in terms of potential success on LeBron since he's so big.

AJ is as good as gone at the deadline if anybody wants him and we're out of it. The interesting question is would Paulie be willing to waive his 10 and 5 if we wanted to get something for him and send him to a contender.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
whitesoxfan101 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm going to shock everybody and be optimistic. I expect a Hawks victory tonight somewhere in the range of 4-2, and a strong performance that sends the message "you aren't really in our class" to the Predators on Nashville's home ice. -
If LeBron is a douche, then so is Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and a lot of other great players in other sports. In the case of greatness, it's all about that edge, that motivation that goes along with having as much God given talent and ability to work hard as any other player out there. If the Bulls don't want him chirping, they should do a better job guarding him (although nobody could have guarded him tonight.) It was a cute little effort from the Bulls tonight, but it was also obvious they would have been better off not in the playoffs. This isn't like last year when the Bulls had a great opportunity to play a defending champion without it's best player and take advantage. Instead, they're playing a really good, healthy team who can always fall back on their all time great player even if the Bulls play well, such as was the case tonight. The Bulls could still win 1 game back here, but this is over in 5 tops.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) lol wut? Teahen has on on base pecentage of .436 and an OPS just above .900. He had a bad several days, but he's been absolutely on fire lately. Andruw Jones is also raking, Rios has been pretty solid, and we still don't even have anything resembling a decent offense. The offense is somehow even worse than I thought it'd be, and this coming from a guy who thought this offense would finish 11th to 14th in the AL in runs scored.

whitesoxfan101 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The play in the zone tonight certainly wasn't completely clean (the first 5 minutes or so of the 2nd period were terrifying), but it was definitely a lot better, and Niemi was awesome. The Hawks also seemed at least to the naked eye to have a lot more legitimate high quality scoring chances tonight as well. If the Hawks can improve from game 2 to 3 just as they did from game 1 to 2, I'd expect a strong performance and win in Nashville Tuesday. Hopefully that is the case, and hoepfully Niemi can keep doing his thing. I see no reason why the Hawks can't at least regain home ice coming home for game 5, and I'm hoping for more. The Hawks are clearly the better team talentwise, they just have to be patient, play clean defense, and take advantage when chances present themself. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) It was a 2-1 game. Yeah it was two empty netters. Still, an absolutely disgraceful 3rd period from the Hawks all around.
