  1. 1. The White Sox will acquire Adrian Gonzalez in July, and that move will carry them to the playoffs. 2. The AL Central will somehow have two teams make the playoffs. 3. AJ Pierzynski makes the decision the Sox have on him after this season easy by having a terrible season.
  2. 82-86, probably on the lower end of that, with the possibility of overachieving since this can be a 90 win or maybe even more team if the offense can even manage to be just slightly (to maybe even modestly) below average. I think it's very possible a move is made that moves the team into that 87-91 range eventually though even beyond that.
  3. Man I hope St. Mary's pulls out this region, because I can't stand any of these other 3 teams. I think death is a better option than rooting for anybody in the Duke/Purdue game.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) Yes, everyone is in agreement on that. I don't think a single person in this thread has said otherwise. I'm saying that you're going to make an argument where everyone already agrees by now stating that cheering during the anthem is more respectful than quietly standing with your hat over your heart. That's what I find ridiculous. Maybe not, but Hawks games have always been the only ones where I didn't find the anthem to be awkward.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Let's not get ridiculous here. You're only going to start an argument between all of the people in here who already agree that this writer is wrong. I really don't care if it starts an argument, because the other side has no argument. Anybody who thinks cheering something is in an way disrespectful is ridiculous. It's cheering! The ultimate expression of approval at a sporting event is cheering.
  6. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Not that I'm in favor of changing things, but I don't think it will really do much damage to the NCAA Tourney. Brackets are almost impossible to do now, imagine trying one with 32 more teams. Additionally, if we know the NCAA at all, we know they'd take advantage of the new format by designing it to protect the big boys. Considering brackets and underdogs are the two biggest things that make the tournament big IMO, expansion would be a disaster.
  7. The guy that wrote this garbage is just a jealous, whiny little Red Wings fan trying to be an attention whore. To his credit, he did get a lot of national attention for this opinion, but it's absolute, complete garbage. Anybody who has actually been to a Blackhawks game knows that the cheering is not at all disrespectful in the slightest. As far as i'm concerned, it's 100 times more respectful than standing there in silence like somebody just died as is the case during the anthem at just about every other event. I cannot believe this has even got as much attention as it has. The entire idea of the cheering is a combination of respect, patriotism, and excitement over the impending start of the game. I don't know what is more American than that. The good news is that politically correct to the extreme weenies like this guy will never get their way here, since the only way to stop this tradition is to not do the anthem.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) Pretty much all the NCAA has to do is add one more full round and it will kill the NIT. The proposal comes up every few years. Expansion is eventually coming. It will kill the NIT and do a great deal of damage to the NCAA Tournament long term IMO, so I don't understand why they are doing it. It might make money in the very short term, but in the long run, it will most certainly not.
  9. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) Great game by Niemi....man if he plays like this in the playoffs...the Hawks will be in good shape. He is 20 - 5...amazing with those #'s we can still be worried.... .909 save percentage entering tonight, keep that in mind. He was outstanding tonight though for the most part, and a win over a team with 9 wins in a row in a game of this magnitude is nice to see. Need a strong finish for that #1 seed.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) You think that would stop the Senate Republicans? Well it makes no sense. That's not even beating a dead horse, it's beating a horse that isn't there anymore because it disappeared.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) What a shame the NIT dropped this far. For all you youngins' starting in 1938, teams dreamed of Madison Square Garden in the spring. From then on into the 1970s The NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT (for emphasis) was THE Tourny. However, the NCAA decided they wanted to make some money and managed TV much better. So in answer to your question, the NIT (loser tourny) exists because they are too stuburn to give up. They probably dream of the day when teams passed up the NCAA to play in the bigger tourny, the NIT. You are right that the NIT used to be the big tourney, but this post still cracks me up. I haven't watched a single minute of this tournament yet btw, including Illinois. I actually forgot they played last night until I heard the final on the radio this morning.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) ACORN's funding came from more than the government. They lost out all around. Exactly.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Heh, the announcer got all excited on a Juan Pierre flyball to left like it was going to get over the fielder's head. I'd venture to guess that Juan won't put a single ball over an outfielders head all year. Fixed.
  14. Great, we have a bunch of guys that can steal 2nd base. Too bad it's almost impossible to steal home, or 1st for that matter.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) One of the first amendments the Republicans have offered to the Senate bill (offered by Capitol Hill Hooker guest David Vitter) is a bill to de-fund the group known as "ACORN". But ACORN is disbanding.
  16. ACORN obviously had some iffy stuff going on in it, but the only reason it reached the point of disbanding is the right wing wanted it to get to that point and went after it. To their credit I guess though, that operation worked out.
  17. If this bill ever made it to the Supreme Court, I think it's pretty clear this group with the makeup it has would overturn it. I just don't see how it ever gets that far though.
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) Every time except for the one cub game that I watch, the White Sox seem to be getting no hit or have only a hit or two. Jsut like today. Get used to it, you'll be seeing it a lot. We're going to have a pitching staff full of guys with sore backs by July with as much as they'll have to carry the team.
  19. The hate DeWayne Wise received last season will pail in comparison to that Mark Kotsay will get this year, barring a surprisingly strong season from him. I almost feel bad for guys like that, it's not their fault Kenny Williams failed to do his job, thus forcing them into roles in which they are more relevant than they should be on a squad.
  20. With the exception of those who legitimately can't afford it, I'm not sure I understand why people wouldn't want to buy healthcare if they could. I do see the point on how forcing people to buy it is constitutionally questionable at best though.
  21. Richmond has to start. He's the most talented player on the team from the moment he sets foot on campus, and you can't just leave a starting lineup that couldn't even make the NCAA Tournament the same IMO.
  22. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) NCAA says they sent Derrick a report in Mid-March when he was still playing, and he ignored it. The letter basically stated that if the letter was ignored he could lose all eligibility. Calipari could have at least had someone read it to him. Even if the NCAA is telling the truth, there is still nothing they can do to Rose. Derrick might have screwed over Memphis by ignoring the letter, but Memphis knew what they were getting into with him I'm sure.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) The people love the idea of free s*** more than anything. What percentage of those incensed fans would have actually redeemed their ticket? 5%? If that? It's like that guy who would trample a small child for a free t-shirt from a scantily clad 20-something or a jackass in a bull costume sporting an air cannon when you just know neither he nor anyone else will ever wear it. Haha this is so true.
  24. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Indeed. I wouldn't hate Pods as much if it weren't for all of his supporters, though. Yes, he is atrocious at baseball, and yes, his face is stupid, and yes, he married a woman that showed her snatch to the world, but I think what aggravates me the most is when people mention his postseason home run. Merciless beat-downs with whiffle ball bats are in order. I miss your posts on Tyson Chandler.
