QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I could see moving AJ up. Oz certainly loves Kotsay, but AJ is a much much much much better hitter. I wouldn't go that far. Neither of them should even be talked or thought about as an option hitting 5th, but we're just such a weak hitting team from the left side, so here we are.

I'm a bit saddened by what I read in this thread. I would hope (and thought) our fanbase is smarter than to buy into Mark Kotsay.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Anyone know if Hayward is leaving? I'd like to see the team stick together and try to make another run. Hayward hasn't even decided yet as far as I know. I can't see his stock getting much higher though. The one thing he wasn't good at this year is 3 point shooting, but he did it well as a freshman so there is evidence he can do it out there. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) If Ozzie and Hawk can be blinded by Kotsay mania, I'm sure that some may be blinded by his hot wife or the perception that he used to be a good hitter with a good glove. I think that certainly against righties, A.J. should be hitting 5th and Kotsay 7th. I agree with Balta that Teahen not sucking would help the situation out a lot though. It's hard because this lineup is a bat short right now, and will remain as such until June or July when a trade will probably be made, so there are no great options. But Kotsay hitting 5th is asinine.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) As much as I hate to say it, no reason Illinois can't be a top 10 team if McCamey returns. Good luck with this. They'll be a tournament team (even if a miracle saves us all and it's still only a 65 team tournament next year), but I can't see how they are a top 10 team. Top 20 is certainly possible though. Butler has a chance to be playing on the final Monday of the season again next year if Hayward stays (they only lose Jukes and Willie, but their incoming guys can replace that production), but I can't see why he'd do that. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) I think some people around here actually think Kotsay batting 5th isn't the worst thing in the world. I'm very concerned for those peoples mental state if that's the case.
-
Yeah, it's pretty common sense that Kotsay shouldn't bat 5th. I think our manager is the only person who thinks it's a good idea, him and White Sox opponents.

Alex Rios and Carlos Quentin, live up to your talent level offensively. If you do (and Ozzie doesn't hit Kotsay 3rd after that idea bombs early on if he's actually crazy enough to try it in real games), the dreams of glory will not be all that unrealistic. -
QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) I am too - believe it or not, sports allegiances are a very minor thing in the larger scheme of things. It's funny, we both said before we met that we wouldn't date somebody who likes the other team. But now, neither of us seem to care about that at all. We're not to the point where I'd say we are a couple right now, but we're definitely getting there.
-
Am I going to lose respect among the great White Sox fans of this message board if I date a Cubs fan?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Yeah, but it's Butler. It's the Hoosiers story played out in real life. Sure it's not that extreme, but no casual fan knows anything about Butler. I dunno, upsets/special stories are what made the tournament what it is. As viewers we remember awesome performances and huge upsets. I think Butler winning it all would be nearly as memorable as a 16 beating a 1. I agree with your thought process, although I don't think Butler is quite as big an underdog as some people think. This is a team that just about everybody had pegged as a legitimate national title contender next year if Gordon Hayward came back (although that's very iffy now). They are just a year early more than anything.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) The Blackhawks really need to pull their heads out of their asses and start winning some f***ing games. The Predators are only 5 points back to take the Central. No kidding, that's a good point. Never thought we'd get to the point where the division was even in doubt. -
They picked the best 25 guys, so I can't complain. I just hope Hudson is ready, since the Garcia injury is inevitable IMO. Having him in the minors getting more innings is the best bet though, and I'm glad Santos made it.
-
I'm just hoping we can do what the 2009 Mariners did, only that 86 wins or whatever they had with great pitching and no hitting is good enough to win this division. Either that, or maybe we deal for a bat in July. No matter what order we bat these guys in, they still won't score runs (although significant AB's for Vizquel and hitting Kotsay 3rd ever would make it even worse obviously.)

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) If the Bulls overcome the Raptors and get into the playoffs, does that increase, decrease, or do nothing to their Bosh hopes? I think the only thing the Bulls overcoming the Raptors would do is make it more likely that Bosh joins Wade in Miami. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) And the downwards spiral continues... Forget Cup, these guys will get bounced in the first round the way that they are playing now. Unfortunately, there has been legitimate reason to have that fear with the way this team has been playing for a very long time now. The liklihood of such a scenario increases by the game though, this team is just ordinary. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) And if Duke wins it, it maybe the weakest National Title ever. Weak region, no more number 1 seeds and will face a #5 seed in the title game. I can't think of a National Title team in the past decade that this Duke team could beat. The National Champion this year will be the weakest one of the last decade no matter who wins. The only exception to this I can think of is MAYBE West Virginia if they win, but even they would be an exceptionally weak winner.
-
West Virginia has to be a huge favorite right now IMO. But being the favorite hasn't meant much in this tournament.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) Don't worry, I'm sure there's still money leftover to pay next year's recruiting class. Indeed. John Calipari coached players don't get rich in the NBA, they get rich while playing for John Calipari. -
Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
whitesoxfan101 replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This isn't close, Wood's 20 K game was better IMO. Only baserunner was due to what should have been an error, Wood really threw a no hitter if not for bad scorekeeping. And obviously he can't control what a fielder does behind him. It doesn't take away from what Buehrle did though. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) If only they could play at Hinkle and let the world see what a basketball arena should look like. Such an awesome place to watch basketball. A feeling of the purity of the game, the reasons why people play it in the first place, ovecomes you when you watch a game there. Or that's how I have felt at least when I've went there.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 02:02 AM) If I Butler wins the championship I bet they will make changes to the tourny. Im not saying they should but I could just see the committee freaking out because a mid major made it and they make something that makes it harder for them, like expanding to 96 teams. I couldn't agree more. I think Butler just making the Final Four makes the expansion more likely, but if they win the whole thing, (and they have a legitimate chance to do it) the powers that be will for sure freak out and expand the tournament. I'm so happy for Butler though. They've had a lot of things go their way in this tournament, but they are such a resiliant and good group of kids, and having followed them closely the last four years, I'm happy they got this payoff of playing in the Final Four in their hometown. Hopefully they can figure out a way to win two more games.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) He just signed a $7.8 million contract, could they even afford that now? Especially after they gave an OF a big contract for the fourth straight off-season. Not only can the Cubs not afford that, but the Marlins won't be as willing as they were to deal anybody who makes money with the new stadium opening in 2012.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Well, that was fun. Do people still think UT was deserving of a 6-seed? Gottlieb looks like a complete dumbass now (i mean, he always has been one but even moreso) after his whole "Tennessee is worse than a 6-seed and will lose in the 1st round" comments. The committee generally does a nice job with putting the right teams in the tournament, but the seeding is generally terrible every year.
