  1. You want to make sure the United States advances first, but assuming they do even despite today, the screw job still hurts because it could cost them a chance to win the group, and makes the first knockout game a lot harder in all likelihood.
  2. Well, it'd be hard for Floyd to get less offensive support tonight than he did in his last start.
  3. I hope the title and subtitle of this thread are hyperbole to try and draw ire and not actually serious.
  4. The fact that who advances in the World Cup could be decided on drawing lots seems so incredibly stupid. Should never come to that.
  5. Been bumping a lot of Led Zeppelin and non-autotune Kanye West lately.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Refs have played a huge role in this game. Terrible job by them. I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. The Lakers absolutely assaulted the Celtics on the glass all night, and the Celtics seemed to get tired in the 4th quarter as a result. The 4th quarter was basically a back and forth between Celtics long jump shots missing, the Lakers getting the ball inside whenever they wanted, and the Lakers continuing to dominate on the glass. Between that and the Lakers leading late, how is there not going to be a huge free throw difference? As for the game itself, the Celtics have to feel absolutely sick today because they win that game without a doubt if Perkins isn't injured, and they probably win it pretty comfortably. Even with that in mind though, they had a 13 point lead in the 3rd quarter and still should have won it. Fatigue seemed to play a huge role down the stretch as I mentioned, but you have to play through that in a game 7, and had the Celtics done that and got the ball towards the basket offensively a little more in the 4th, the result is different. Additionally, Kobe Bryant did get his 5th ring last night, but he showed why he's not Michael Jordan even despite it. He probably shouldn't have got the NBA Finals MVP, and he was absolutely awful last night, outside of dominating on the glass like all of the other Lakers also did. His teammates really saved him all kinds of hell last night by stepping up and helping the Lakers win, because Kobe would have never heard the end of it losing a game 7 in The Finals at home to an aging team without it's starting center.
  7. Ahh so total goals scored is the next tiebreaker, did not know that. The drawing by lots thing would not be a fun scenario to decide things. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) Oh and for everyone who likes to say refs don't play a role in outcomes. Well this is a huge f*** you. Refs directly influence games and sometimes decide results. Refs don't play a role in outcomes 99 percent of the time. Today was definitely a rare exception to that rule though.
  8. Whether or not the refs were biased, they were still epically awful. It wouldn't surprise me if they were biased, but this wouldn't be the first time international soccer refs were biased against us, and there isn't much we can do about it. Really unfortunate to have the game winning goal called back on an imaginary call and lose a win on it, but there is still no excuse to fall behind two in the first half like that. Question by the way: What happens if teams finish tied in goal differential? It's theoretically possible that England, Slovenia, and the U.S. could all finish with 5 points and a +1 goal differential, who goes through then and in what order? And what if just two teams finish tied at 5 points and +1, then what? (Edit: nevermind, see answers for this above.)
  9. I'd be surprised if any moves are made anytime soon. Beating up on these crappy NL teams is giving the people in the organization some false optimism I'm sure.
  10. lol @ the Bears being in that cartoon. There are full grown adults (like me) who weren't even born when that team won it all. I hope people let that team go one day.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Notre Dame seems pretty comparable to Nebraska. Fallen superpower. They wouldn't run the division. I think that's a fair comparison, although Nebraska has made progress in building itself back up recently, and I think joining the Big 10 will only aid that in football. I also think joining a league would do Notre Dame football a lot of good.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Kenny is in Pittsburgh to play nice with Ozzie for JR. Yeah, Kenny had better learn to be nice to his boss in the dugout.
  13. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Anyone see AJ with his arm around PK at the end of the game and sort of think they may know something we dont? Like it's his last game.... Would be really sad to see Paulie go.................... Inside info?
  14. How many games do we have left against teams from the sissy league?
  15. I hope this isn't just a career year being wasted from Rios.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Can we switch with the Cubs? The Cubs would be better in the AL thanks to Soriano's contract. The only reason they're not even worse is their starting pitching (well, the top 3 guys at least), which would not be as good in the AL.
  17. 6 errors in a game is pretty impressive. Always a good sign when your error total is triple your run total for the night, more than your hit total, and equal to your runs and hits combined total.
  18. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) Rather random isn't it?! Definitely. Plus, you're a female poster with a picture on display, so really any thread you start will probably end up being at least 5 pages.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) The Pirates are just bumbling idiots Your original point was accurate, but I think the above edited one does a better job of covering the situation.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Not 2.5 months into 2010. But he's more than well on his way.
  21. It seemed like there couldn't be anybody worse than the Sox for a while. But there clearly is, just have to go to the NL.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) I've been randomly writing "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?" on women's facebook walls. is the old lady okay with that?
  23. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) It was a joke ya silly goose!! haha I think it's just a smidgen morbid that the nursery rhyme, "ring around the rosy", is about the plague. My family, on my mother's side, has always been very involved in Renaissance Faires, I learned about this when I was about 11 years old ...I was genuinely creeped!!! ( One of the faires in which they own booths is in Bristol, Wisconsin actually ...not far from Chicago at all!!) If I recall correctly, a large number of nursery rhymes are about morbid things such as that. Pretty strange.
