  1. Andruw tagged up, looked like he was moving decently. But thrown out at home on a beautiful peg
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Well, if Teahen's going to slump this bad and be in one of those "Every at bat I go 0-2 and then I ground out weakly to someone" phases, I'd rather him do it to start the spring than the regular season. It can always be both
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Bryan Myrow is 33 years old and has a career AAA line of .313/.423/.528/.951 Jason Botts is 29 years old and has a career AAA line of .299/.398/.540/.938 'more promise' as in for this year. which I'm aware I left completely unclear. The big thing with me is Myrow hasnt had the MLB opportunities Botts has had. But again, I admittedly am going off a career stats sheet
  4. I mean, obviously DH/1B is the hardest to make a splash with. Just funny how now we need a lefthanded one, and yet they dont seem to be around. I'd be a little more OK with our current situation if we had a few minor league options from the LH side that would have more promise than Jason Botts.
  5. Why was this player never given a chance? He was in our system for a short while. Maybe someone here knows more about him... ...but from what I can tell, he hit well at every level but just hasnt gotten had a chance in the bigs. Lefty DH. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/M/Brian-Myrow.shtml
  6. When Gaines Adams died, Bears fans had this thing where they didn't know how to react. Some immediately began talking about draft pick compensation, salary, etc. Others took aim at this kind of talk, saying it was completely inappropriate. My response was that if we're going to care about the human above all else, then we have to take pause every time we hear about a death on the news. But we don't. It's natural not to. You didnt know the person. Similarly here, I dont feel bad about being happy that we have MANY less "8 inning games" this year. I dont wish pain on anyone, but I dont know Joe Nathan and I dont have a vested interest in his ability to earn a living through this career he's chosen. I don't have to feel bad in a way beyond the normal amount(for someone I dont know personally).
  7. Nix off grabow. Vs lefties we need him
  8. I would think Hudson wins in a landslide, with the exception of those very convinced that long relief would stunt his development as a starter.
  9. Havent read the thread through, but quick question. If Jones indeed has most of his agility back, shouldnt there be days that Pierre DHes? Jones/Rios/CQ in the outfield has some serious cannonage.
  10. If there really is an open bullpen slot... .. doesn't Dolsi's track record indicate he's the far and away most reliable option? Not to hype him up or anything, but just mainly looking at these other two guys. Only thing in his way would be Santos' contract status, but they're not going to let that get in the way of putting the best team out there.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) I don't think that is necessarily true. Keep in mind that the sense of urgency is much less from the suitors at this point in time. So while there are more suitors now, the quality of offers might increase towards the break when the sense of urgency increases. Of course, if you are contending at a trade deadline...then chances are you arent looking for a 1B/DH because that was probably already in place during your nice run. Contenders tend to spend their prospects at the deadline on more pitching. Although with all the instability with DHes these days, I suppose that's not necessarily always true. Or makes the point of more-suitors-now MORE true. Hm.
  12. Gonzalez's contract makes him of premium value (even beyond his talent)...but then again we're a few months away from him being 1.5 year rental, in some eyes. If he was traded right now, he'd be appealing to more teams, in that right now everyone is in a pennant chase, so to speak. Therefore, more offers. I'm surprised SD didnt see right now as the time to get the mother lode. It may be good for us that they wait, actually. Right now they'd get tons upon tons.
  13. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) There should be ZERO doubt that Kenny is gonna add a serious left-handed bat in the coming weeks. Well there's doubt just because if they really expended that much time on the Damon thing, it has to mean it was something they saw as the best option for now. After all, they wouldnt make that move if they had some sliver of hope expressed to them by SD's F.O., right? And the other problem is the already existing roster crunch. Not to say it cant be done and rearranged but I think it's a stretch to say there's zero reason to doubt.
  14. KW, get some OBP. Just get some OBP. Jesus. It's like we're allergic to it.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) Yes his local Bally's. That's no way to talk about a former Sox Series MVP OK i only meant that at about 10% strength.
  16. Forgive me if it's been posted already, but Mark G's twitter implies we may still be pursuing another LH bat http://twitter.com/MDGonzales/status/9438758715 Or at least that the FO is mindful of it (as opposed to the 'Damon solely as icing on the cake' line of thinking)
  17. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) It doesn't matter if it's customary or not, that's completely beside the point. The point is that spending around 4.5 on Damon this season is a lot different than spending 8 this season It's clear we drove the price way up on Detroit. I wouldnt be surprised if we knew what we were doing all along. Not to say we didnt want Damon, but just that we had some desire to mess with Detroit's future budget, knowing they needed a leadoff way too badly right now.
  18. No one on these boards ever seems to say the following: Kotsay had injuries. He was bad with Boston. Now he has healed up, and finished up last year as the most consistent W.Sox hitter. So I am confident he'll hit righties well and be fine as a platoon guy. Granted, no power. But that will come from elsewhere. Good-sized spike in IF power #s expected. OK-killme
  19. I dont understand how people get down on Rios' '08. 47 doubles. 32 steals. I will take that gladly.
  20. I dont get the whole thing where you're ready to shell out $6M with deferments for LH power...and then turn around later and say "no we didnt have a hole to fill." And they'll basically say that if they stand pat. I actually dont want power. I want someone who is going to hit for a decent OBP. That to me is the scary part. We will hit them out of the park. Sadly Damon would have fit both bills. Blaylock wont, but then again I'm convinced we'd just be getting a bench guy anyway if anything.
  21. I suppose Blaylock would add lefty punch off the bench and at least a little flexibility. But Ozzie's plan to not use Omar as a utility guy is horrific enough to make Nix or Lillibridge a must.
