SOXTALK DRAFT THREAD, DAY TWO
A friend of mine is defending the Mitchell selection by comparing Mitchell's #s at age 20 to Beckham's. At 20, Beckham put up worse stats than JM. Give me some reasons to debunk this. Quality of competition/pitching faced? and K #s obviously

Wise - "Keep Booing Me"
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) orrrrr maybe to play BA over him? Crazy thought, I know. So you're booing one player so that they'll put in another that is hitting .234? To me, booing is a serious enough thing where you do it for a total travesty. This does not qualify. BA has defense but other than that Ozzie wants to get a LH bat on track if he can. Yesterday he didnt even start and people insulted him after he failed to score from first (on a questionable call at that)

Ozzie blasts team after game
This a non issue, Beckham can take these comments from his manager, it's not an attack.

Wise - "Keep Booing Me"
QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:06 AM) Because one of them has an OPS above .600 while the other has an OPS+ of -10 and is still starting. Yes, -10. I don't like what Fields said either, and I certainly think he's having an awful season, but when you are doing as bad as Wise is this year, there is absolutely no excuse for defending your performance. Well, we all know Wise didnt exactly earn a spot over Carlos Quentin. Only out of pure need is Wise playing. I mean, to me it's pointless to boo the 4th (5th?) outfielder who is only playing because of injury. Before the goal was "lets boo Wise so he's taken out of the leadoff spot." Now what's the great goal? Will booing him heal up CQ somehow?

Why are people blowing up more about Wise's comments than Fields'?

Fire Sale Prediction Thread
This past offseason there was not a window with which to get the team great. At least not a creative way of doing it, not without a big blow up of payroll. There is that window this coming offseason when money comes off the books. So they'll go for it then.

I'll also add that that ump at first has the body language that might warrant a beating.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) why is Dontrelle Willis such a spas? I can only imagine if he put half the effort into pitching as he does being a spas.... If we get after these guys for showing enthusiasm, then we cant have the opposite concern (that almost all of us do)...that they play passionless and solely for the money. Here's a guy showing he actually enjoys the game - i wish more were like that.

i would frankly rather he hang out with Gnarls.

In one way I'm sure Trayce has had a lifelong preparation for being a professional athlete and all the issues attached w/ that. At the same time, he hangs out with Charles Barkley apparently.

Jason Bere looks like he has been struck repeatedly with the age stick. Also Trayce Thompson and his father have the oddly placed "y" in common.

I'm starting to think that Alexei went into this year concentrating on becoming a more patient hitter. It led to a serious problem earlier in the year but I'm glad he has really worked at seeing another way of playing at least.

A rare HR call by Hawk that, at least initially, did not involve You Can Put It On the Board It was weird hearing him say "it's outta here!"

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) can we keep info about the game out of here? I'm tivoing the game right now, and focusing on the draft... maybe unfair to single this out, but cmon man watch the game. so many of these young guys will never be heard from again in a meaningful way.

Beckham sure is a first pitch swinger. Takes it to the warning track.

Wise - "Keep Booing Me"
Booing should motivate him. Thats what these guys should do if we're willing to do the act of booing. Nothing really wrong here.
