  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) Why? What happened in 1993? '93? Thats when Murph was stuck in 1984. Hampton's horrible. Stick to football.
  2. You pull for the Cubs this weekend. What if we later face another close race til game 162? There are some 350+ other days this year to hate the Cubs.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I can't believe I actually saw somebody say "f*** Buehrle" yesterday. It should be a problem even when it's not someone as storied as Mark
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) While I don't condone booing Wise, Dewayne has to look at his performance and realize he's going to get some booing. Even if he's making minimum, he's making a good living. If he can't handle the boos, I don't know why he would want to be a baseball player. To me, him saying "keep booing me" is him handling it. Players should feed off that. Why are we asking him to show repentance or something along those lines?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) If Wise hadn't separated his shoulder, both of their PA numbers would look much different. Anderson also had a long stretch of injury. Since May 29, Wise has had 20 PAs. Since May 19, Anderson has had 65. Plus factor in a recent short Brian illness. Again, we can argue the disparity should be greater...but I dont think that disparity is so small that we need to boo a struggling member of the home team. To me that accomplishes nothing. People say we discuss these two guys (and booing) too much. On one hand yes, but it's also part of a larger point. I would like to respect more of the people in the stands for the team I root for. And fans can positively or negatively impact players. It's not like football, but they have some effect.
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) I think one of the reasons Wise was up here in the first place was because he played under Buddy Bell, so obviously Buddy would have said some positive things about him, and hence why he got on the roster. Well he did have a great year in AAA, and up here there was a need...
  7. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) What over the course of his career has pointed to the fact that he will get "on track"? A handful of decent plate appearances last year? That is probably true but then we have to boo every time there is a position battle between two negative VORP guys? Also, there's so much anger here when frankly he had some hits here last year that have some historic value. It's not a reason for him to be given a starting role, but it is a reason to keep from booing him. Above all this, where's the conspiracy? Wise has 43 PAs this year, Anderson 126? Wise has 43 even with a full-time guy injured. Even in the interim they're trying the awful Jayson Nix in OF. If they loved Wise they wouldnt even experiment with that.
  8. This coming offseason, does Thome pretty much take a mil or two to return if we offer a full-time DH slot? How many teams could offer that, plus have a chance at contending? Plus close to home for him... I'm fine with Thome being here if we're using that current money he makes and put it towards someone seriously good.
  9. A friend of mine is defending the Mitchell selection by comparing Mitchell's #s at age 20 to Beckham's. At 20, Beckham put up worse stats than JM. Give me some reasons to debunk this. Quality of competition/pitching faced? and K #s obviously
  10. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) orrrrr maybe to play BA over him? Crazy thought, I know. So you're booing one player so that they'll put in another that is hitting .234? To me, booing is a serious enough thing where you do it for a total travesty. This does not qualify. BA has defense but other than that Ozzie wants to get a LH bat on track if he can. Yesterday he didnt even start and people insulted him after he failed to score from first (on a questionable call at that)
  11. This a non issue, Beckham can take these comments from his manager, it's not an attack.
  12. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:06 AM) Because one of them has an OPS above .600 while the other has an OPS+ of -10 and is still starting. Yes, -10. I don't like what Fields said either, and I certainly think he's having an awful season, but when you are doing as bad as Wise is this year, there is absolutely no excuse for defending your performance. Well, we all know Wise didnt exactly earn a spot over Carlos Quentin. Only out of pure need is Wise playing. I mean, to me it's pointless to boo the 4th (5th?) outfielder who is only playing because of injury. Before the goal was "lets boo Wise so he's taken out of the leadoff spot." Now what's the great goal? Will booing him heal up CQ somehow?
  13. Why are people blowing up more about Wise's comments than Fields'?
  14. This past offseason there was not a window with which to get the team great. At least not a creative way of doing it, not without a big blow up of payroll. There is that window this coming offseason when money comes off the books. So they'll go for it then.
  15. I go to the gym downstairs to workout, the person already dow nthere has on the Finals. I come back up here and it's tied WTF
  16. McGriff always wore his hat too high up and Gary Gaetti too low.
  17. I'll also add that that ump at first has the body language that might warrant a beating.
  18. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) why is Dontrelle Willis such a spas? I can only imagine if he put half the effort into pitching as he does being a spas.... If we get after these guys for showing enthusiasm, then we cant have the opposite concern (that almost all of us do)...that they play passionless and solely for the money. Here's a guy showing he actually enjoys the game - i wish more were like that.
  19. Getting on base today - cant put the foot on the neck however and press down.
  20. In one way I'm sure Trayce has had a lifelong preparation for being a professional athlete and all the issues attached w/ that. At the same time, he hangs out with Charles Barkley apparently.
