6/16 Sox @ Cubs 7:05 CSN - PPD
Ah, magglio. simpler times. I never really took to hating him as much as some Sox fans have. If I consider my own organization to be kind of dunderheaded, I cant really take offense when a player feels the same way.

Is Sammy a Hall of Famer???
Seeing as how my thread was started in the morning, hopefully it's an indicator that my sources are indeed legit. My East and West coast sources, as well as all in between.

Should I buy a beer at Wrigley?
This is a silly enough question but I know some people who love beer like me will chime in. The expensive ticket I bought directly from cubs-- that helps them get free agents with my $. But at least i'm going and cheering my team and trying to bring some kind of positive pro-sox atmosphere to the game. But if I buy anything from concessions, i'm just pointlessly padding the team's ability to afford free agents. Granted i'm just one person, but if every sox fan buys stuff there, it helps them financially in their busiest midweek early game series. Should i abstain?

How do you feel about the Chicago Cubs?
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Our opponents in the ALC will win games no matter what. What better team to get those wins against than the Cubs? I don't feel like I'm cheering against the Sox if I want the Twins to beat the Cubs. It does affect the Sox, but not enough that I want to see those Cub fans' smiling faces. I also enjoy watching AL teams smash NL teams. You will still feel this same way if it's tied at the end of the year between say Minnesota and Chicago..and it goes to a 163rd game? The Cubs fans i know love it that the Sox fanbase lets the popularity thing get to them. You are offended by their sheer numbers and it overheats you. What they dont like is when you take the fanbase out of it. Completely out of it. You just compare rings and they dont have any. But you empower them to do their thing in yr face when you make them the hated. The Cubs fan should have the inferiority complex, b/c of the lack of rings. Yet sox fans hating cub nation (despite their lack of success) makes it seem like we have the pointless inferiority complex. It's playing right into their mystique narrative bulls***.

How do you feel about the Chicago Cubs?
I root against the Cubs, for those who do the all-out hate thing.....is it more rooted in a dislike of their fans?

Is Sammy a Hall of Famer???
God I hope not. Who's he going up against? Will voters actually vote for him saying there was no hard evidence against him? I would think when he's up, bad press will surround his eligibility and perhaps drive votes away. No one recently link to roids is in, right?

Contreras named AL player of the week
It's not just 'you shouldntve booed contreras' you should not boo any white sox player. it's totally pointless. either does nothing or hurts, but surely cant help.

LSU (Jared Mitchell) playing now on ESPN.
Darn it i finally turn it on and he flies out. Looks like it was a great day at the plate.
-
What about bringing over Barry Zito?
That Zito contract is like one of the all time worst things to even think about. He wasnt even that good when he signed it.

In case of rainout...
Ahhh....

In case of rainout...
Probably not thread worthy but it's an offday so I'll give it a try. If Wednesday's game is rained out, would it for sure be played Thurs night? Or because of travel needs would the game be more likely to be postponed? I guess it's a weird situation in that a makeup game would only necessitate the teams both be at home on a given day. Need to be able to inform my boss today, hopefully someone can reassure me real quick - thanks

Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Sounds like you're referring to plate discipline. When I think "bat control" I think contact ability. There is no question that CQ has better plate discipline than Alexei, but there is also no question that Alexei has pretty good bat control, too. But doesnt Alexei take a lot of big wallop swings? Just to consider an extreme transition: if AR wanted to become a slap hitter, I dont know if he'd be able. Other guys could make that transition easier. I could be wrong. He's a slender guy that tries to generate power with the type of swing he's taking. That's AR.

Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 06:51 AM) Uh, ok, so he is doing well, but not doing well? Your subjective observations can be tempered by actually looking at his production in the 2-spot. Walking, hitting and overall getting on base is exactly what he is doing which is very valuable in front of our boppers. There is no better option. I dont know if it's subjective to say CQ has better bat control than Alexei. We have plenty of evidence that Alexei is a free swinger. I just think AR is perfect for lower in the order. He'll see more fastballs, instead of depending on Pods being on base to get him fastballs. Based on Pods' OBP, that argument indicates Alexei will get a fastball heavy at-bat only when Pods or the 8 or 9 hitters happen to be on base. I say get him up there following the bashers.
-
Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
My point is twofold. Quentin has better bat control than Alexei and has the skills to get runners over better than AR. Yet for situations where you dont need that, he's still a little better than Alexei. So why not get him a lot of at-bats? The unique part of the situation... is that CQ is not out of this world this year. He's probably destined to come back and not be an elite run producer, at least for the remainder of his season. Could be right or wrong on that, but such are the decisions that Ozzie will have to make.

Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) no he's not. And maybe you should check out Alexei's stats in the 2-hole. To happen to do well while in the 2-hole vs. doing the 2-hole things well are two different things. We all know Alexei's skills set and it's tailor made for being lower in the order. He is taking more pitches, yes. But the ways in which he's producing now are still things that he could do effectively from lower in the order.
-
Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
Also I think we get into this rigid mindset about what makes a 2 hitter, when actually...great teams very often have a 2 hitter that does tons of stuff.
-
Quentin as a temporary 2 hitter?
A couple reasons. We still dont have someone with bat control doing everything necessary at that slot. Quentin, when here, was not reproducing last year. But he would be able to take walks and move the runner over. I know that's underusing him, but realistically we dont know where he's going to be at upon his return. And we wont have that long with him. When he left he was looking like an A's era Nick Swisher. Meanwhile it preserves what our current 3-4-5 is doing. You dont want to push Paulie lower in the order the way he's going. And of course CQ gives us some speed near the top (if not a ton). While still fulfilling all this other stuff better than Alexei and AJ. I know it sounds silly, but truth is Alexei should be batting lower in the order, and this would allow it to happen. It would work with a very small CQ season. OK now kill me. Or at least comment on new av.
