It would be so weird to win this division twice in a row in years where we werent trying extremely hard to put a great team out there. must be what it feels to be...well...atlanta?

Looks like we're finally up to '0' in the run differential. ha.

Castro is a good acquisition by Kenny. Totally overlooked. Lance is nothing. -

BA's horrible. -
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) Alexei's bat is more valuable then any raise in defense we'd get by switching shortstops. I agree, but Alexei still can be on the field at 2b. the report on Nix has been that he's a defensive shortstop foremost. Right now his OBP is none too shabby. We'll have to see if Getz keeps up his production as that factors in. Keep in mind, if we had strikeout starting pitchers, i would be a little less worried about this. But that league lead in unearned runs really has to change.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) It boggles my mind why people want to bench Alexei so bad even though his bat has been awesome lately. Deal with the defense he makes enough steller plays that shouldnt be made to make up for the plays he has brain cramps on. Easier to say on a day when he was Good Jose Valentin. With the kind of pitchers we have, we need the absolute best handling the ground balls. We are the leader (or amongst them) in giving up unearned runs. So like I said, we wait and see - but lately he's committed some costly errors. So far, 10 E... and his fielding PCT is .007 away from being the ML worst. Half a year is not indicative of everything, but to me he's a 2b. We'll see.

In fact, if Alexei doesnt fix some of that shortstop play, you have to start hoping for more starts there for Nix.

I'm personally terrified of Pods in center. I think defense is so bad for this team already.

Potential teams that could come calling
Princess Dye replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
we can make it dotel/pods if that aids your nausea. to me you have to strike now to beef up the farm system. We could be 2 yrs away from having one of those rare teams with great vets (current guys and free agency purchases) and great youth. -

Just out of curiosity, and I'm not saying I would do this for sure........ ...if the Cubs came calling for Pods and Thornton, and they were willing to deal their top prospect (vitters) and perhaps someone else with a bright future would you bite? The Cubs want to improve bullpen and top of the order, but they cant take on much salary b/c of their ownership situation being in flux. The Sox would have Poreda, Gobble (and perhaps one day Richard) as lefties in the pen still. Poreda still hasnt developed a second pitch enough to be starter level....the thorntons of the world are often first rounders and sometimes we just have to accept that. As far as Pods, you would have to assume that there's no comfortable place for him here in the outfield when Quentin is back. We're so bad defensively as is and I would hate to see CF go that same route. If we had strikeout pitchers, that would be one thing. ok now kill me (i may not be able to joust at all bout this for a few hours unfortunately) -
QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Sox already beat Greinke this season. His first loss on the year. Greinke didnt take the loss that day, but it was his first game where he got beat up some.

I'm fine w/ this, get Thornton's ERA a little less sparkling so that he can perhaps rest over AS break

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) I really can't believe earlier in the season that I was talking about putting Floyd on waivers and exposing him to any other team in baseball to claim his contract.. I, too, cannot believe you were talking about that
