Memorial Day Game Thread: White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox
Anderson is a carbon copy clone what must have been a 23 year old Alexei in Cuba. That's a good thing, but we need to be patient.

Not a bad play from Jose. I'll concede the run. Nice play. Usually he drops those.

The Red Sox announcing crew is god awful. It's a mix of ignorance and arrogance.

Memorial Day Game Thread: White Sox vs. Boston Red Sox
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ May 29, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Thank you to all those who served and continue to serve our country, as well as their families It's because of these individuals we are able to enjoy our day to day lives and our beloved White Sox. Let's put one on the board for all those who gave their lives fighting for our freedoms. Go Sox Ugh, that is veteran's day. This is for KIA. I think it is an important distinction. That said. Go Sox. I think they are going to put some runs up on Price.

Which surprisingly productive role player do you believe in the most?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) Sanchez is also a guy who had some decent success in the minors as well. He always hit for good average once he learned a level. yea and he was usually young for his age, certainly a interesting player now that he's hitting in MLB.

May 28th Game Thread: Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers
QUOTE (oldsox @ May 28, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) They wanted to get the Save for Robertson. If they bring him in too early, no Save. Plus he wanted to give some quality work for Beck. lol, the man's a genius.

good topic, I voted Sanchez, just because if he hits much, his defense is very good, near elite possibly.

uh, Matt Davidson now has a .290 ISO. That's insane. Yolmer! Now sitting at a cool 309 AVG. Who the f*** say any of this coming? Even it's some lighting in a bottle.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) Davidson is so dangerous! the key to that entire thing was that take on 1-1, I thought for sure he was going to swing at it. Then obviously just a great swing on a mistake.

Gonzo is making them pay for being so aggresive. A lot of bad ABs by the Tigers, reminiscent of the Sox of recent years.

lol the ball found Jose's mitt, not the other way around. Perfect sunday hop, granted a sharp one.

Slash! Matt: .267 .317 .534 851 OPS Leury: 273 .323 .462 755 OPS Sanchez: .303 .344 .426 766 OPS Wily: 263 .318 .421 739 OPS even when the Sox rest Avi they still have some competent MLB hitters (currently at least) up and down the lineup outside of Jose. This is a far cry from the "3 easy out" days of the last couple years.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Once again, milb career ops of 727 for W.Garcia. Avi's was quite a bit higher. Leury at just 684. these minor league stats really don't mean much at this point.

QUOTE (beautox @ May 28, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) I hope this is the timeline where all three Garcia's become productive major leaguers. Avi becomes a jose guillen redux, Leury a less crazy center fielding Carl Everett and Willy a competent 4th outfielder with the chance for more. That would accelerate the timetable for contenting probably into 2020 and yea, it would be awesome.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 28, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Not sure they've been playing "good" baseball but smart and fun? Sure. I still think W. Garcia is going to be a decent player. Not sure what city that will be in. They are +26 in RD after that HR, I'm telling you, some bad luck, but this team has been playing well.

What to cheer for since we are in a rebuild
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:32 PM) The major league team is competitive against most teams and interesting to watch. Cheer for them. 4 games under and +23 runs with several youngish guys (Avi, Sanchez, Garcia) having great years is pretty much a best case outcome so far. Other than the Rodon injury and Frazier's swing I don't have anything to b**** about on the MLB club.

Hall of Fame criteria for pitchers now
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 25, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) WAR already accounts for the positional value and context of his peers. And given that he's one of the worst framers in the league you could make the argument that WAR is overstating his value. EDIT: You're also overstating his offensive value, even just looking at catchers. Since his rookie year Perez has been the 22nd best hitting catcher among those with enough PA to be qualified. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=17,d

Covey to DL, Minaya recalled
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 25, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Completely random, but the comments section over at SSS is really annoying to read through. Trying to see what the Sox might do with Covey & his spot in the rotation and every other post is some stupid joke or philosophical rant from posters trying demonstrate their wittiness and/or superior intellect. Thank god for Soxtalk where the talk is much more focused. I used to post quite a bit on SSS but once Jim took over the blog got worse IMO. Jim is just a straight newspaper type guy, occasional he'll have an interesting story, but I mostly just check for larry's minor league updates and financial analysis, which are great. And yea, the comments section is crap. Soxtalk is getting better and better though. Great content and many new posters this year. Tone of the board this year is much improved and I'll admit I've mellowed out quite a bit myself. We got good dudes and dudettes here even if we disagree.
