  1. Pretty good sequence to Navarro there, some nasty off speed stuff.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) At times you have to go up there hacking. If it is the same for both teams, it's not BS. Call the zone as it's defined in the rulebook.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) As long as Q gets it, fine. It's 38 degrees and windy. They want to get out of there as soon as possible. See, this is the sort of BS that screams "robots". There is no adjusting the zone based on the temp. Come on.
  4. Should have been 3-0 to Jose. Ump missed three calls already. That call to Rollins was especially brutal.
  5. So far half the pitches that were called strikes weren't even on the black, completely missed the zone.
  6. Oh great, c***ry Joe West on the crew for this series. Looks like he'll be behind plate tmr.
  7. Avi so far only swinging out of the zone 38.3%. Walk rate is up a tick as well at 8.7% and K-Rate down to 21.7%. Some positive signs but he's got to sustain production. BABIP is only .200 so he keeps doing what he's doing that will rise and so will his line.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) The number being used ("over 3") is 3.57. 3.57 is definitely not 30% less than 4. You're also assuming that he never improves. (Since OP said he doesn't put up a season as good as 2014 Rollins even at full ceiling, and someone decided to make WAR the only stat being talked about) ZIPS likes Tyler too though... projected for 1.4 fWAR in only 435 PA. I think Tyler is pretty decent but I like having Rollins as well. I like 'em both.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) How can this be such a sure notion 22 PAs in, though? Because he's 37 and is playing SS and had .2 fWAR last year? There's no reason to play him like he's 27 and in his prime.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) His WAR/162 was over 3 last year. bWAR really loved his defense. fWAR merely liked it. He should be getting more starts IMO. Rollins really does not need to play playing 90% of the games.
  11. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) Valid point. I just hope they arent afraid to pull the plug if he isn't getting the job done. In the games I've watched so far, he doesn't have all that great of range at SS. The bat could definitely show up to offset his defensive inadequacies. These are my feelings as well.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) The MN lineup isn't that bad. Really 6-8 are the weaknesses. They have 12 runs in six games. Their team OPS is 640. Sox aren't much better so far at 647. I can see a 4-3 win or loss today.
  13. OK that Twins lineup looks awful on paper. At least they are smart enough to put Buxton 9th. Has to be a lot of pressure on the kid to produce right away.
  14. Well, extra rest for some guys and a straight doubleheader isn't a bad way to make it up. And they should have Eaton back tmr right? Even if he wants to take an extra day I'm fine with it. Be with your family. As much s*** as I gave him for his Laroche comments he's come out on fire and he deserves some time with his new born and wife.
  15. We've already seen a handful of balls that Rollins simply doesn't have the range for anymore that Alexei of say, 2013, gets to and at least makes a throw. I really think they need to see what Saladino can do 3 days a week at SS. Give Rollins a day off almost every other day as that not only works Tyler into the lineup so they can get a better handle on how he handles live balls (not spring training or AAA bullets) and it also lets Rollins get plenty of rest. I really think the way to maximize this situation is to give Rollins 90-110 starts and Tyler the rest. If Tyler makes it so you have a hard decision to make come July about who the majority starter is the rest of the way good -- if he fails, and Rollins is what he is (1 WAR type at this point) then you look for help via trade. I will say the left side of the IF so far looks pretty bad defensively. I don't miss Alexei at the plate but I certainly miss his range deep in the hole. He lost quite a bit of range the past few years but he still more often than not at least made it close. Rollins just puts those balls in his back pocket.
  16. QUOTE (champagne030 @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) I can't believe I'll finally pop my cherry and it's to post a complaint after this teams start. I've been a season ticket holder for almost 25 years and have attended 24 of the last 25 openers. I understand some quirks to be worked out and that large of a crowd, but service was horrible (off the charts bad on an opening day). I have Stadium Club access and noticed the shirts on the staff were different. When did Northern Delaware gain the concession contract? The staff was very apologetic and said it was a new management company and almost all new staff. They didn't do a "soft" opening and had no training. Food was cold (and awful), beer was warm, credit card machines didn't work and it was beyond awful. Vendors in the stands seemed normal, but when I left the seats to visit a concession stand I noticed the same Northern Delaware logos and again the service was incredibly slow. I've only attended about 10 games the last two years and maybe the contract has changed hands during that period, but it sure seems Delaware North is a last minute change or clueless. My ticket rep, who I'm tight with, actually knew I was there and was going to meet us at the seats and said they couldn't make it down and wanted to know about my service in the Club and concessions so there must have been numerous complaints. Jeez, isn't this the sort of logistical competence JR always prides himself on? Seems like this could have been avoided.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 08:55 PM) Yes, this was how I felt as well, and was general consensus in the bleachers around us. And I was super pumped for this game, and it was a great game! I saw more runs scored in this game by the sox than if you combined the amount of runs scored I saw in the 6 games I saw them from April - June last year (where 2 runs was the highest scoring game I saw). The weather in the sun was actually great. Everything that the sox couldn't control was fine. Everything they could was a nightmare. Seems like they should just delayed the start 30 minutes as soon as they knew they had a snow problem and a closed upper deck. Would that have helped? Kudos to those that went and saw a winner didnt look too bad in the sun but must have been brutal in the shade.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) Love Hawk and always will, but Benetti is a breath of fresh air. I'm hoping that as he settles into the role he'll show some more Kevin Harlan-esque excitement, but right now he's doing fantastic. Abreu...with the SLEDGEHAMMER.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) I love Jason Benetti. So does Stone and that makes it easy on the ears. No dead air today and no Stone trying half asseddly to humor Hawk.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 9, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) but eaton was not there. Lol
  21. Avi postgame: "everyone is playing like a family; everyone is happy".
  22. Wow avi 105mph off the bat. Love this broadcast with benetti
