What to do with Todd
QUOTE (striker @ May 11, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Holland, Gonzalez, Frazier, Swarzak and Cabrera won't bring much back in return individually but could bring back something interesting if paired up. Take the Mets and Red Sox for example, both could use a 3B, SP and teams are always looking for a reliever. So send them Frazier, Holland and Swarzak, or just two of them. Seattle is another team that could use a 1B/DH type, SP and RP. I think Seattle might be a good spot to send Holland or Shields come July. Their SP has been devastated with injuries.

Good, bad, ugly - high round picks in the White Sox minors today
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2017 -> 07:59 AM) An overview of all the 1st, 2nd and supplemental round picks who are currently playing in the White Sox minor leagues. There's quite a range of results here, making for an entertaining look. I was drunk last night and googling Keon Barnum, the article on him I read noted that the last time Chicago drafted two HS kids (Hawkins and Barnum) with their 1st two picks neither made the major leagues.

What to do with Todd
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) Realistically, no one has offered anything of value for him yet, or he would already be gone. You keep playing him in the hopes that eventually someone needs him, unless he turns into 2011 Adam Dunn. I mean, we are talking about a position for someone like Davidson, Saladino, Sanchez, etc. once it is Moncada time in Chicago. Personally I can't squint hard enough to see any of those guys as a starter on our next playoff team. Delmonico isn't going to be a major league 3B. He is absolutely awful at 3B. There isn't a real pressing need to move Frazier until the deadline if we don't get a decent offer for him. Fair enough all around but according to the report from our own Soxtalk scouting crew Delmonico does have a chance to stick at 3B.

Rodon to throw Sim Game
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 10, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) It's a damn shame that a significant amount of MLB development time (and service time) is going to be wasted on this. If he ends up needing to go under the knife, its going to be very disappointing that it wasn't handled earlier. Obviously hoping that isn't the case and he is back in the rotation for good in a few weeks. I can only take so many more Pelfrey/ Covey starts. Eh, if there's one thing this org deserves the benefit of the doubt on it's keeping pitchers healthy. Look at all the "rushed back from a soft tissue injury and then more seriously injured himself" (Britton, Thor) cases we've had already this year.

What to do with Todd
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) The Delmonico of a couple of years ago is the exact kind of prospect the Sox will be targeting in a Frazier deal. Right, which isn't much. There's also the downside risk keeping Todd as he's injury prone and if he can't pass a physical the Sox will come up empty.

What to do with Todd
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) It is an awful idea. If the Sox wanted to GIVE Frazier away for nothing, they'd be able to. Eh, if you assume there are multiple clubs interested, then the Sox will be able to make a trade. I mean what's the downside risk? You lose a shot at a C+ prospect in July? The upside is you get the same prospect, maybe you gotta throw in some cash, but you clear a roster spot for Delmonico and Davidson, two guys who will actually be around for the next good Sox team.

What to do with Todd
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 10, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) DFA him. Honestly this isn't an awful idea. See if you can work out a trade and if nobody picks him up he's just back on the club like nothing happened in a couple weeks

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while
QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) Scotty Pods, too. what's even more amazing about those two is that they played a corner OF spot during the silly ball era and still, for the most part, were productive players.

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while
Very few players can make it work with an ISO below 100. Obviously Ichiro was one. Juan Pierre was as well.

Soto to DL, Smith recalled
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) Probably just a planned day off, with the early start after a night game....and just a "mental" game off, with him going hitless the last couple of games. I think he's sat out at least one other time in the early season, at least. He was 4-9 with a 3B, 2B, BB, K, and 2SB in the two games prior.

White Sox vs Twins 7:10 PM CT
Avi still struggles going to his right and back, but he's much, much better on balls hit in front of him.

White Sox vs Twins 7:10 PM CT
QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2017 -> 09:16 PM) I don't care for a second if they lose 100-5 in games started by Pelfrey and Covey. Be nice to see Anderson do well true.

Shields / Rodon updates...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) Paul Skrbina @ChiTribSkrbina 16m16 minutes ago White Sox GM Rick Hahn says Carlos Rodon still in Arizona. Still progressing. Still no public time table for return. Scot Gregor @scotgregor 17m17 minutes ago Hahn says Carlos Rodon is still in Arizona, now throwing off mound. Still no timetable for return to #WhiteSox He's back to where he was 2 months ago!

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while
It's less about development and more about money which I guess makes sense. By keeping him down until middle of July I think they'll save about 8-10 million. Sure he can work on his defense but there's little if any development left to do with his bat. I can't say I'm surprised but I am disappointed.

In-Person reports on Moncada, Delmonico, Engel, Hayes
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 9, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) Having seen Fulmer and Lopez recently, I'd say you want Fulmer before Lopez - for now. Long term it's Lopez. But Fulmer is closer to ready at the moment. Sounds good to me. I just don't want to see Dylan Covey.

In-Person reports on Moncada, Delmonico, Engel, Hayes
Thanks for that. I saw Delmonico up close at the last game we attended in spring. He had a ringing double off the wall opposite field and held his own at 3B, although he failed to make a play on a slow roller you'd expect a good MLB 3B to make more often than not. I thought he was older and had less of a pedigree when I was watching him. But seeing how he's only 24 and was once thought of as a pretty high upside prospect gives me hope the Sox might have found something. In a few weeks I'd really like to see Lopez, Moncada and Delmonico all up but that means something has to be done with Todd for their to be any real playing time at 3B.

5/8 games
Giolito can get strikeouts but god damn he has zero command or control, that's evidence from the pitch trax. He doesn't know where individual pitches are going and he doesn't have enough guile to not walk guys either. You can have control or command and be alright (although command usually leads to control) but you can't lack both.

The Rotation and Covey Situation
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 8, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I personally would like for the Sox to keep throwing Covey out there as a starter. In my opinion, that gives him the best chance to continue his development and rectify his flaws as a pitcher. It's not like the Sox are playing for anything. His flaws aren't really fixable without a huge jump in velocity or stuff.

I made up a new stat for prospect evaluation
QUOTE (GermanSock @ May 8, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) His speed is a plus but the most important thing is that he hits. His Ks are some risk but if he can keep up the walks and hits for decent power ( 250+ ISO) he will be a good hitter. Uh, if he hits for a 250 or greater ISO he'll be one of the best players in MLB almost immediately That's more than decent power, that's elite, at 2B it's almost unheard of. I'd happily settle for a 260/330/460 line this year and improvement on that as he ages.
