  1. Yep. I think you've got basically that boomer crowd (my father for example), then the 2005 folks (so people already 35+) and almost nothing after that iconic player wise or success that moves the needle. You can say MB and Konerko but again those names are long gone now. Who is our most iconic player in the last 5 years? Probably Garrett, and he gawn. Sale was fun but he never won s%*# here either and will forever be known mostly for his time with the other color Sox. Nothing lasts forever, and JR turning the Sox into what he claims is a money losing enterprise is a prophecy self fulfilled largely.
  2. Elbow holds very little force hitting compared to throwing. Plenty of position players play through substantial elbow pain at every level. That said, based on what that report you relayed says -- not great, Lip.
  3. Seems zero chance Baldwin doesn't start the season on the 15 day IL, maybe they can back date it a bit. Not much out there on the injury just that he has elbow inflammation. I'd assume it's in his throwing arm or he'd probably be trying to play through it. Bummer. I guess as a position player he could try and play through a partially torn UCL but let's hope it's not that.
  4. He has some tools but his hit tool is like 30/35 and that just won't ever play even as a catcher. xwOBA of .257 for his career. He's a mediocre defensive catcher and he'd have to be Pudge back there (the 2nd one) to even hang on as a useful backup.
  5. Damn just activated it, took all of 30 seconds. Much smoother than prior years it seems.
  6. f*** yea! I was hoping it was still on given the BS with the ESPN sub now for non T-Mobile folks. T-Mobile has always been great for me, going on 25 years now with them. Free wifi on a lot of flights, priority line at the Ichiro bobblehead game last year, a free drink at the T-Mobile lounge same game, really solid perks and a fair price for unlimited on a good network.
  7. It turned out it was just his love of Eloy and attention imo. I'll never forget the dumb f*** hanging out in the net instead of retrieving the ball and turning what should have been an out into a triple.
  8. If nothing else it will be nice to not get the snow / rain outs so much as a fan. And I'm sure the players appreciate it. Baseball is not meant to be played or watched on a 38 degree windy day. It's a warm weather sport and fan experience.
  9. I asked two people in Sox hats if they were fans. Nope, just liked the hat. One of them even told me the team sucks and I should be embarrassed to be a fan in so many words. I wasn't going to argue.
  10. Yea but on the flip side Clevinger can't get enough Sox, so it balances out.
  11. That is ash tray money to these parties. There is def a grudge here.
  12. I can see Fanatics doing it tho and I can see the Sox not doing DD to make sure everything was good there. That said, I do see that side as well, Frank would totally file a lawsuit to f*** with the Sox, and it sounds like he's doing a bit better financially so maybe he decided to stick his finger in their eye.
  13. Man, how the hell did the Sox let it get to this point? Just pay the man a fair value for his NIL. Given that I've never heard of such a lawsuit I'd assume there are pretty standard agreements between clubs and ex players -- an agreement the Sox apparently couldn't come to with Frank.
  14. If this team is signing him thinking they are "challenging .500" they are off by about 15-20 games. There isn't any world we go 81-81 this year. 75 and 87 sure, but 81-81 simply is not happening with this pitching staff. It would take tremendous break outs from the young players and health just to get to 75, and we'd all be thrilled I'd imagine.
  15. Google how to set your DNS to 4.2.2.1 (or any other free one) takes like 10 seconds and might resolve the issue for anybody else. Also gives you a bit more privacy than using your ISP's.
  16. Would have rather hired three more Pacific Rim scounts at 400k each then throw this money at a backup catcher. Really doesn't seem a great way to spend limited resources. But this is the Sox. Even when they make a few good moves the inevitable head scratcher is never too far down the road.
  17. Headed out of Phoenix / Tempe today. A billion cubs fans down here. Didn't get to any games, it's been way too hot already, I'm a bit surprised they didn't cancel any yesterday, as it was pretty much 100+ from 11am to 6pm.
  18. Is there an option to turn off the "thread preview" and just see the post topic? It it too busy for me and cluttered now.
  19. It is really not that deep imo. The WBC eligibility rules are designed loose for a reason, and it is to get more talent spread around. Baseball is growing but it still has most the talent centered in the US Caribbean and Japan, so it is good to allow Italy to field a team and for Americans with Korean or Taiwan or whatever background to suite up for those nations.
  20. knock on wood we are quite healthy as a group, if this is the worst spring training setback, we good.
  21. Oof, grade 2 sucks. Damnit. Well cya in May.
  22. Probably a 2-3 week setback based on how it looked and his reaction. Not the worst thing in the world now we can get Edgar more ABs early.
  23. I think you'd need Italy to beat Mexico like 10-0 or some s%*# for us not to advance. Super obscure rules here WBC dumb s%*#.
  24. eh, I'd say it's around 15%.
