  1. well that's dumb. at least we aren't the rockies.
  2. That's what I'm thinking. Even if they don't win it all I can see him saying enough. He's got generational wealth, he's got an MVP, he's played in the playoffs. He's accomplished quite a bit. He's a Sox legend and will get a statue. If he wants to spend more time with his family who can blame him and it might honestly help the Sox if he decides to retire anyways.
  3. Could be but the impression I get is that he's thinking about his family and is tired of baseball a bit, maybe climbing the mountain so many times but not quite summiting has gotten to him. Quite the contrast from "I'll sign myself" a couple years ago.
  4. Wow. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of his future either in Chicago or elsewhere. Sounds sorta like a guy tired of the long hours in the offseason in your mid 30s to keep trying to play 130 plus games. I feel that quote deserves a thread. I'll make one.
  5. Sox have a horrific track record of trading young cost controlled players too soon.
  6. Again: why would you sign a 1.5 WAR aging FA in order to jettison a 1.5 WAR younger, could still improve player you have under team control?
  7. it's going to cost more per WAR to improve a 92 win team than a 75 one almost every time. That's just where we are at. Yes it's "expensive" but winning is expensive.
  8. I said that a couple days ago. If that doesn't get it done, then fuck it, but it should.
  9. What's he gonna bounce back from? He hasn't been a league average player in nearly 4 years now. People are living in the past.
  10. this is what was supposed to happen with Kimbrel! It's not Hahn that is wrong, it's rest of MLB!
  11. But why? Why sign a player that is possibly worse in 2022, pay for the privilege and ship out a cost controlled asset as well?
  12. The Fukodome comps are lazy imo. This guy is three years younger and that is the key difference. Fukodome was a good player until his body started to give out on him after a few years in MLB. It's really hard to transition as a player at that age not only culturally but physically. You're taking a giant step in level just as your body is starting to bark at you more. From what I read on Fangraphs this guy has a chance to be an impact defender and slash like 270/320/430, in today's MLB that's a 2.5 maybe 3 WAR corner OF. Did they overpay? Possibly, but that's the price you pay to acquire talent in FA.
  13. That fucking trade is going to haunt us a long time isn't it.
  14. The plan was to be 3-4 wins better on paper by now, that is not the case and several other contenders have done so. I'm not going to the mattresses yet but it certainly is frustrating and dampens the mood a bit around the new season.
  15. Good indicator the Sox are nowhere close to having enough spending power to do much in RF.
  16. Don't want to start a fight but Harold when is this "bidding war" for Kimbrel gonna conclude? Crickets on this front.
  17. Sucks to see these names coming off the board this morning at prices the Sox could but won't match. Doesn't feel like the Sox want to spend much more than 4th OF money. How they got to this point has been well chronicled and it's not exactly ideal.
