Vargas to 10 Day IL, Elko up
Good, Ramos isn't even a JAG. No standout traits. At least Vargas has shown some ability to be a decent regular.

Shane Smith has taken over as story of spring
You just "smooth" the data. It's like when people say "oh you know guys out of the top 100 always pop up as legit talents" -- well yea, but it's not as LIKELY and that's the point. You have to have a critical mass of prospects as individuals will always fail no matter how talented they were at prior levels. The Sox have pretty good depth in the farm overall imo but it's not on the pitching side at the moment.

Resilient White Sox/AL Central Attendance, somehow up 1.8% YoY for first 21 home dates
There just is not a lot to do in Denver proper in summer. It's a very sleepy town from what I saw. Chicagoans have a multitude of things and have a competing franchise obviously. I don't think it's hardcore Rockies fans as much as just the reality of entertainment options in the Denver summer season.

genius adding "of the staff" too. Gave yourself just enough wiggle room.

“The 78” is alive and well, moisturized and thriving , Viva La Canal's Edge!
I know as a facility it has issues but it would bum me out seeing the Bears move out of the water front. To me that is just an iconic view with the park, museums, stadium and skyline. It's one of my favorite views of any city in the world and I know I'm not alone in that.

Genuine progress
Sox passed the Pirates in position player fWAR so they now rank 28th. Moved into a tie for 26th in wRC+ at 90. The Sox are a staggering 51 runs below average defensively. Walk rate is nice, but the holistic view is a bit grimmer.

Overall agree but in order to develop talent you gotta first ID it. Can't turn chicken s%*# into chicken salad and all that. So I'll give Getz a job well done for IDing guys that have a good batting eye. I never wanted to believe it but Moncada didn't have a good eye he just took a shitload of pitches and when he got to MLB that wasn't going to work anymore.

It's still hard to believe Wilson was part of that trade. Getz earns a A for that Crochet trade so far and an F for this one. Overall a straight C imo.

Yea power can come from DH and the corner spots. I'd like to see Beni as the odd man out more next year and give all of his 30 or so DH starts to Teel and Quero and Sosa. Park Vargas at 3B, Colson and SS and then work in Chase at 2B with Sosa while making sure Sosa starts 5 times a week at some rotation of 1B, 2B, DH.

The greatest trick Getz ever played was anchoring expectations of 120 losses in year one. I'm not kidding. As I said I'll give him a solid C+ for this season but dude since he took over we're like 90 and 200.

Are those run values (or at least some approximation?) That's fucking insane. That's a 4 win difference between worst umped and best umped. Holy s%*#.

The Lenyn Sosa Thread
I like Ron but he's really old now and his heart didn't seem to be in it this year with his leave of absence. What's the angle here just a young hitter whisperer?

You can scream about taking walks until you're blue in the face but you gotta have the right mix of guys. Getz got pretty lucky that Colson is hitting his 99th percentile projection (and even if he regresses he's still a solid starter next year) as otherwise the lineup doesn't have much pop -- but he did a nice job bringing in guys with a good approach. I tend to think you need a "critical mass" of good swing decisions in a lineup otherwise guys start to press. It's easier to hit when the pitcher is constantly going deep in counts.

The Lenyn Sosa Thread
I'm just piling on but you'd think that ball scraped over the fence from that dufus' call. It's hitting the fucking ivy 20 feet beyond the fence and he's like "it's gone". Just conveyed zero of the 451 feet.
