  1. At this point he is what he is: a guy that was playing Indy league baseball last year and away from the team for a long time. They are 100% rewarding him for working hard, which I don't begrudge them. But that said, his level is probably high A or AA right now. He's a year away from being a year away, if ever.
  2. I''m wondering what the plan is for Jake after this little "reward" they are giving him for sticking it out and trying to make a comeback, including playing in that Indy league last year. I wonder if he will get assigned to Birmingham or if they want him to stick around the complex in AZ for a bit longer and maybe play in some back field games. Maybe both if the Minor League season is delayed I guess.
  3. other than grandal nursing his knee or whatever it's been good so far. I'm literally knocking on wood as I type this.
  4. pro tip: the only way spring training isn't pointless is from a lawn seat with a beer in hand. I'm serious. Just relax and get ready for opening day and hope nobody gets hurt.
  5. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Cooper has any interest in that. Don Cooper serves Don Cooper. He doesn't GAF about analyzing baseball he cares about grinding his axes against whoever he thinks in MLB has wronged him.
  6. A lot of what my dad taught me about pitching was from the Don Cooper philosophy, which is now horribly outdated. Glad the Sox moved on.
  7. I'm trying to imagine him working with a young stud like Giolito and I just can't. How did he even interact with these guys?
  8. What a complete asshat. He's ruining his legacy if he hasn't already. He should have been shit canned long ago if this is any indication of how he's been going about his profession.
  9. Maybe I'm misremembering but didn't Cooper have him pitching from the stretch at all times as well?
  10. I just poured over Lopez's pitch type info and the only chance he has at success is improving his command. Good luck. Rarely do guys that can't command even a fastball suddenly master their arsenal after 4-5 years in the league. It's not even like he had a bad arm injury or anything he just can't command any of his pitches and they get hammered. That said, Cooper had him trying to throw way too many fucking changeups. More curveballs can't possibly hurt, can it?
  11. Cisheck is a real insider, ain't he?
  12. I already gave it to JR.
  13. they have access to private funds and it shows. their vision is long term, to be something as profitable as Bar Stool, except for adults. they will gladly take some quarterly losses to gain eyeballs and attract more top writing talent. their writers are good man. like in a world of online writing that is just crap, even at places like SI, ESPN, CBS Sports, you name it, even fan blogs, good ones, don't come close to the writing quality at the Athletic. Feagan is a blessing for Sox fans.
  14. Why haven't you gotten your Athletic sub yet?
  15. My hope is that once 70% or so of people are vacced and the virus is basically stopped dead and people see full stadiums and bars and concerts -- they realize it's safe to step off the ledge.
  16. You don't get COVID being outside and furthermore by the time the season starts nearly 50% of Americans should be vacced. The CDC keeps slow playing the benefits of the vac. IT'S MADDENING! This is the arguably the greatest human achievement ever in medicine and yet all we fucking here from the screeching media and CDC is how cautious we should still be even when vacced. GTFO. The vaccine was created to get us back to FULL NORMAL life. There are people that want COVID lockdowns to continue indefintely to serve a political agenda. These people can fuck off. We aren't going to have UBI because you got laid off at Starbucks last spring. It's time to get on with normal life and economic activity.
  17. Joe Rogan knows how to make conversation and engender strong opinions from his guests.. As a quality in a podcaster, that's a good thing. As a message board poster it gets tiresome when you feel a particular poster is just baiting over and over again. I'm not on a podcast, I don't have to talk to fill time, hence the ignore button.
  18. People that frequently do personal attacks and do "gotcha" replies only serve red meat. Red meat is fine but eating it every day isn't recommended for health. I have three posters on ignore and I am much happier and calmer.
  19. I don't think you should put everyone you disagree with on ignore -- but personally once I put a few posters on ignore my soxtalk experience and my own posting got better.
  20. I'm looking forward to the inevitable Eloy TLR conflict after Eloy does some yakkety sax shit in LF. Or, if TLR is really on point Eloy will not have those moments, or fewer.
  21. We literally saw a counter example to your post with our own eyes when Adam "he's going to leadoff and play CF everyday" Eaton rubbed the vets in the room the wrong way. Frazier still can't stand him. And I DGAF about "piling on" I post here from my experiences in life and baseball. Don't worry about hurting my feelings. I will always post what I feel is true and other are free to disagree and argue, that's the beauty of the forum. I haven't really been posting much, there's just not a lot to say until the season starts so when I do post it's going to be stuff like this. Spring training stats are completely meaningless and so are "position battles". We'll know more two games into the regular season about this Sox roster and club then 20 something exhibition games told us.
  22. This is really good news. 20% seems rather arbitrary however. I wonder how they will adjust things when the virus is basically dead at the end of May when 200 million people have gotten the vaccine?
