Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I wish us Americans had a phrase as good as "he's taking the piss" for situations like this. This guy is taking the piss on us all.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
He'll break a story, usually around NE sports scene once every year or so. He might have a source in Toronto.

Sox Non-Tender Yolmer, Frare, Burr, Release Veiera
wow. perfect example of TINSTAAPP. I'd imagine he'll want to go to a club where he has a path to being a rotation guy. Depending on how the Sox' offseason goes might be a NRI candidate but I bet someone bites on him for 3-5 million and guaranteed roster spot.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I just laughed at the part of the article where "123 million spent on Abreu and Grandal" was tossed out as a "reason" they couldn't afford Wheeler. Come on. That's ash tray money in today's MLB. If that's where they are at financially then just give up on competing.

Eloy playing winter league
Yea be smart and mature. I think he's a smart guy but youth + money sometimes doesn't mix well even for smart young men. That said, other than potential off field trouble I love that he's playing. Shows a real desire to work on his weaknesses.

We're Back!
It was for the big upgrade to the new forum software. I think they went from like a decade old version of Invision to this one. They did a good job maintaining the database and making sure they got it done right. I used to admin SQL databases shit is stressful.

Zack Wheeler Thread
Predicting things is really hard. Everybody that predicts will be mostly wrong. Nature of the biz. It's fun to speculate but often it's just speculation.

I think that's the case. If nothing else JR orgs are known for doing these sort of "solids" for guys.

Yolmer non-tendered
Yea because he's an automatic out!

Yolmer non-tendered
Maybe a trade happening where non 40 man prospects are shipped out.

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
Sheehan is just writing the obvious. You can tell he's not a fan of the Sox' FO and hasn't' been going on two decades online now but the Sox have earned it.

Same ownership group gave Jabari Parker 40 million :-)

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
He'll still be subject to the penalty WAR gives for being a DH and his WAR will still be almost 100% dependent on his slash line.

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
Yea but Jose doesn't have a "team" that reports to him and then he gets bonuses based on being a great leader and such in charge of widget quality control with the best ratio of good widgets to bad widgets in the history of the company under his watch. Leadership and mentor-ship and guidance matter, but you can't measure them in baseball. And if you can't measure it...

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
I'm using abstractions and conditions in arguing future events which granted some people struggle to comprehend. There is a non zero chance a 35 year old Jose Abreu is replacement level in 2022. I'm not arguing there is a 100% chance. I'm arguing there is a chance. Probably about 1/3 given historical aging curves for similar players. Given that the club has never, ever shown a willingness to cut bait on "franchise favs" historically it's a very real hypothetical situation that they will be stuck with a bad player they won't move on from. You misrepresented my position on Jose as I was quite happy when he accepted the QO. The risk isn't the AAV it's the years. Amazingly they didn't even manage to lower the AAV and handed out the years. It's an irrational baseball move you can't defend on baseball terms and everybody in this thread knows it was an order on high from JR to lock this guy up and have him retire a Sox.

Abreu Signs 3/$50M Extension
There is very good chance that it's not the money that fucks the Sox it's fielding a replacement level DH in what should be a contending year. The Sox are not going to DFA Jose Abreu even if he's hitting 180/220/400 in late July 2022. And it very well could cost them a pennant, playoff birth, or even WS title. So it's not just the money it's opportunity cost and a roster spot. When your best defense of this deal is "well it probably won't matter" you should re-evaluate your position.
