  1. Plus whoever the invite to camp and send to Charlotte. If TA gets hurt then we have a problem but otherwise Mendick and Leury can hold down those utility spots. I wonder if they will have Madrigal playing some SS in spring and in Charlotte so he can be the primary backup to TA. Leury had like 8 errors in 30 games at SS last year he's not really a SS. I'd feel a lot better with a sure handed if a bit loose armed Madrigal as the primary backup.
  2. it takes two to tango. TA had a wife and baby when he signed his deal and comes from a fairly impoverished background. He had a chance to basically secure his family's future until they are old and grey and he decided to take that deal. From his perspective it made a lot of sense. madrigal is a single guy just out of college a couple years that came from a middle class background. He might look at a deal like TA signed and say "Nah, not for me, I have a support system if I never play another baseball game and I don't have any kids so I'm going to wait and bet on myself". tl:dr: Madrigal is unlikely to be looking to sign an extension right now.
  3. Madrigal has little to gain by signing an extension right now. He'd be looking at something like TA's contract at absolute best, and while a guaranteed 15 million or so probably sounds pretty good he knows that if he puts down one solid rookie season his value will double or even triple. For various reasons you can't compare his situation to Eloy or Robert's, who had already proven more at the MiLB level and at least for Robert, Robert has probably the highest floor and highest ceiling of any non Wander, non Adell position player so he got paid on that.
  4. IKR? Literally nothing to gain by responding in that way. But Stoney is a made man so he can be a dick to fans even tho his job is to be an ambassador. Whatever. Just win this year.
  5. especially the lighter skinned ones. in afternoon games, he leaves them out there so long in the sun!
  6. Prima Facie, it appears that's not the case. Otherwise, Dusty Baker wouldn't be the front runner, no? You can't hand waive away that 1) spring training is basically here and any manager has exactly two weeks to get ready to lead his men into battle, on a contender nonetheless, and 2) Nobody wants to work for someone that didn't hire them if they can help it. And that will be the case in Houston unless they somehow find a GM in the next couple weeks.
  7. Yea there was absolutely zero need to do that. He could have just wished Yolmer well while noting that the Sox have a top 20 prospect in Madrigal that made moving on easier (and cheaper). I'm not surprised as Stone has asshole tendencies. Sox need to remind him he is an ambassador first and foremost, and an analyst 2nd.
  8. What a jerkface. Just ignore the tweet and move on Steve no need to argue with fans EVER on twitter. Apparently JR likes Stone wading in the muck. Or he has no idea WTF Twitter is.
  9. Dusty is a moron but in this case I'm guessing he's one of the few willing to work without a GM in place and the Astros are desperate to find someone before spring workouts begin in two weeks.
  10. Perhaps jirschele will be that guy for the Sox.
  11. my thought is: why not both? Find a manager that can make the right tactical calls and motivate the boys.
  12. I think some of you guys have forgotten what winning clubs are like. If they win 95 games every single move he makes in the playoffs will be scrutinized more than ANY move he's made over the last two years. He has Moncada bunt in the playoffs and Twitter and Sox radio in Chicago will burn down, as it should.
  13. Trust me, if the Sox are good this year Ricky will be the proverbial ant under the magnifying class on game day. He's been given a free pass for two years. That time is over. His decisions are about to be under actual scrutiny. You could shrug off every bunt last year with "well it's a tank year anyways". Not so anymore. He gives away outs, runs and games with bunting and the Chicago media and fans need to hold his feet to the fire.
  14. why would you give ricky the benefit of the doubt tho? This is a guy that batted Reed 4th FFS.
  15. He's a little sensitive but I think there's a fair question if what they are doing with Kopech (to claw back the lost year) is shadier than simply delaying the clock start (which EVERYBODY does EVERY time without an extension in place), but simply waiting the two weeks to grab an extra year isn't a service time "game" anymore it's simply BAU. Change the rules. Don't player hate, player hate the game.
  16. Bruh nobody was even arguing that they wouldn't keep him down for the extra year. The "getting cute" was perhaps related to waiting the additional time for super 2. Nobody is really even arguing with you you're tilting at windmills. Mostly everyone is in agreement here.
  17. That's true but the argument, if there is one, that there's "no room" for him even if he's banging down the door isn't true. They might hold him down, but it won't be because Jose is playing 150 games at 1st and putting up 5 WAR. Personally I don't think they will play any service time games with him beyond the now bog standard extra year by holding him out a few weeks in April. Unless he completely falls on his face he'll be up whenever the 172 day deadline passes in '21.
  18. He surely thinks so. Their roster stinks he's got a shot but just seems odd to me that if he really had a chance at a guaranteed 1.5 million, the MLB lifestyle (with a wife and young kids coming to expect it) he'd turn that down for a 50/50 chance at being a starter. But hell I myself said that if he somehow gets 500 or so PA this year and can hit 270/330/400 he might get a multi year deal. That's incredibly unlikely but this is almost surely his LAST chance to prove any sort of value other than utility guy. All that said he could go to Japan and play another ten years if he really wanted and probably make 7-12 million. He'll be fine, as will his family. He's already banked about 8 million before taxes.
  19. I have a hard time believing he passed up a legit 26 man roster spot in order to try and break camp with the Giants as their starter. Seems a pretty damn big risk for a guy that could have secured a MLB lifestyle for at least another year and socked away another million or so for his future and family. Wish him well but he's a marginal MLB player as anything but a utility guy on a non contender. He's just a guy. With no 40 man spots open? Nah.
  20. Jose isn't going to play more than 80 games at 1st in 2021. The ABs will be there for a 1B, whether that's EE or Collins or Vaughn remains to be seen.
  21. hopefully, but this is the Sox and JR. If he can save 5 million on Madrigal in 2024 he will try. Believe the extra year will only require about three weeks in Charlotte so sometime around April 20th had be up if they don't care about Super 2.
  22. On the radio last year during the playoffs I felt for sure they were banging. That was the only explanation for how giggly she was at everything he said. She's a mediocre analyst plenty of mediocre men analysts as well so that's progress I guess.
  23. I just hope Kopech listens to his body a bit more and is honest with the training staff. Don't need any tough guy BS costing him any more time.
  24. There's zero percent chance even if he hits 500/600/700. He'll be up whenever the projected Super 2 deadline passes, and not a second before.
  25. It's not too bad imo. He's only going to miss about 7 starts. He wasn't ever going to pitch more than 140 innings anyways so might as well just keep him down in ST an extra couple weeks, let him slowly ramp up on side games then send him to Charlotte in late April and let him make 4-6 starts down there and then he's up with the big club.
