Can someone please explain to me why the fuck he wouldn't be on the opening day roster? Because they'd have to clear a 40 man spot? I thought they had an open spot? I can't even fathom keeping him down because of some stupid ass concern trolling over the appearance of impropriety wrt to his situation prior to signing the contract and service time manipulation.

scouts gonna scout. get back to me when ZIPS projects Robert for a 133 OPS+.

I think it's code for "splitting headache from all the champagne last night". Good for him, he deserves it, now rest up for the opener kid!
-
so the takeaway for Eloy after signing the biggest contract pre actually playing in MLB deal in MLB history is that he took a discount because of his defense? well, he got paid because of his bat, ya know?
-
when did Ramirez have his last year over 3.5 WAR? Because that's the last time a Sox SS was worth what Marcus was last year. Whatever, it's a middling move but FFS they've made a lot of "middling" moves the last decade, especially wrt to infielders.

Passing grade!

It's a fine deal but we're not comparing it to guys on the open market in FA. We are comparing it to what he would have gotten in ARB, which if he's good, might be a substantial savings. If nothing else they got an extra year of control and have really solidified the relationship long term with him.

who?

Now the fans have something to look forward to on opening day. Almost wish I was in Chicago now.

Hey good news! Good job Sox. See, I can praise them. Eloy is trending world wide on Twitter, how cool!

I own my own business. Most of the job is showing up and waiting for people to come in or asking my staff to fix something. It's a great gig. Plenty of free time during the work day. But hey keep patronizing me like you just b****ed about people doing to you. WTF some people really lack self awareness.

To pass the time at work?

Boy how can they lay off pitches that close!

To paraphrase the great Tyler the Creator: close the computer fool!

Well everybody here is a die hard dude. You think most of us when we were young Sox fans pictured this shit? Hell no. We had a decent run in the 90s and early aughts but our allegiance has never wavered even during the recent drought. We are stuck and if b****ing about it makes us more interested or feel better about the team than it is what it is.

I have no idea about this post other than that it uses the software well.

People always get really butthurt when anybody mentions the 2005 team and luck. Thing is, it's a compliment. You need luck. You have to put your team in a position on the win curve where luck wins you a division and a bit more (coupled with talent obviously) wins you some crapshoot short series in the playoffs. If the Sox had the amount of talent the 2005 club had more often they'd win a helluva lot more, world series title or not.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

So your answer is to lay back and take it up the ass? I mean who cares about this thread on soxtalk but I'd encourage every single Sox fan to make their opinion heard via their wallet in any way possible. I'm not spending a single dollar on MLB products and Sox shit this year or anytime soon. it's really the least I can do.

Are you new to the Internet?
-
Imagine thinking that a club worth roughly a billion dollars gets to cry poor because they play in a seedy neighborhood?
-
none of that is relevant to their revenues in any meaningful way. And oh, San Diego (you know the PADRES) just signed Manny. The Sox weren't even competing with the blue bloods. They were competing with clubs like the Sox that suck ass and have sucked ass with a tiny ass fanbase for decades. And they couldn't pony up.

A fan's job is to be a fan. There's no great mystery to it. These guys are getting quite well compensated to figure out how to win. It's not any fan's job to do that for them. We just cheer for the laundry.

If you go look at the 2005 club the amount of luck involved with the pitching and health was incredible. It was a well put together club and every WS winner needs luck but man that one had more than its share and IMO it really, really helped that narrative of "just one guy away" that went on and on throughout the mid aughts. In reality it was "one guy away plus historical luck". That lightning was never going to strike twice.

Well now you're just picking fights to pick fights, which hey cast the first stone I get but...a well run club, like the Yankees (puke) can overcome injuries. This one needs everything to break right just to have a chance.
