5/23 Game 1 - Indians @ Sox, 4:10, CSN

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) Duke should not have been used in the 7th, it is as simple as that to be honest. Albers should have been used in the 7th and Duke to start the 8th with Jones waiting just in case. Exactly. RV can't manage his way out of a paper bag. I'd rather have Ozzie. At least for all his BS, including quitting on the team, he understood the concept of bullpen leverage. -

how many innings is the pen gonna have to cover after they go to extra innings? f***ing stupid managing. Twice now he's tried to just PRAY and wing it and hope his reliever can go a 2nd inning. YOU DON'T MANAGE ON HOPE -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) I said you had to leave him in to get out two lefties, but I just couldn't fathom him letting BOTH of them reach base. Putting Jones in there was probably the best play...because Albers doesn't have the stuff to dominate right now. How about not using Duke like he's f***ing Rollie Fingers in his prime? If you're going to stretch anyone out in the pen it's Jones. -

Don't ever go bird hunting with RV. He'll be shooting at birds in the sky while the three in the bush fly away. -

Oh look RV trying to "steal" more outs with a reliever that shouldn't be in the game. Is Jones made of glass? -

QUOTE (Scoots @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:26 PM) Well, seeing as I have 300 posts I suppose I am fairly new, yes. And I don't endorse awful coaching, as I actually would disagree with many of the decisions that have been made in this game, but they are winning. So just enjoy the fact that they are up by 3 and probably aren't going to give the lead up. welcome to the forum. game threads are like an emotional free for all. Reason isn't always the priority, nor should it be imo. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 23, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) Who said that? Carlos hit that hard but right at him. If he's going well that lands in the gap or in the corner. Can't knock him he got the fly ball just hit too hard. That's on the 3rd base coach. deserves is a little strong but if they blow this lead certainly nobody will be happy. Game should be put to bed. -

RV has no idea how to use Duke. But maybe if Duke is actually good it won't matter. -

Hell, the way Gonzo is pitching maybe he can be the 4th starter. Gonzo has impressed me both with his stuff and demeanor. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 23, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) Eh he'll still get guys to make weak contact if he hits his spots. The problem is that he's not hitting his spots lately. I don't mind him. For a dumpster dive signing he's been great. But as others are saying, ideally he's a 5th starter. Sox really need to find a 4th starter somewhere. Someone should be available fairly cheap within a month or so. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 23, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) The problem with Latos is that when he's good, he's pretty good. When he's bad, things get bad real fast. Honestly lately most of his good has just been "right size, wrong shape" or "rocket right at ____" -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 23, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) Can you explain that to me? What's considered good? I'm trying to learn some of these stats Anything over .300 is good but really it's mostly a function of luck except for super fast guys or sluggers (think Eaton or Frank Thomas). Some guys just hit the ball harder and run faster but for the most part it's luck. Last year when Avi was hitting over .300 early he had a .400 BABIP, basically he was just getting lucky. When his BABIP came back to earth, so did his slash line. Ironically, Austin Jackson is a guy that made an absolute killing early in his career by maintaining a BABIP over 330. He was hitting the ball hard and running very, very fast. Tim Anderson when he comes up is another guy that will have a high BABIP. Slash hitter that is fast. He'll have to maintain it to have success in MLB. Pitcher BABIP is another story all together. A lot of good free info on Fangraphs, etc.
