His ROS ZIPS is for an OPS+ of 110. This is tragically what he is now. A 110-120 OPS+ DH. 2 WAR player. He has 1.7 fWAR in his last 800 or so PA. That sucks.

Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
Nobody should be rushed beyond what they can handle but I'm not sure how much more Cease is going to improve going against AAA hitters. As you noted there is development that needs to occur for almost every player at the MLB level for 2-3 years after becoming a full time MLB player. We've seen it with Gio and Moncada and Anderson and to a lesser extent (lesser talent) with Yolmer and Leury. Robert is going to be in the same boat next June when he's slashing something like 300/330/550 in Charlotte. How much more developing can he do down there?

2005 Championship team and WAR....
It was a magical run and nothing can take that away. Thank God for that. It hasn't offset the 15 years of mostly bad baseball since then, but it has made it tolerable.

2005 Championship team and WAR....
Ah yea I remember that now. It was a team that was built on pitching and defense and the occasional home run. Seemed like every night the club had a chance to win thanks to a quality start. They had a better roster on paper in 2006 and collapsed down the stretch. The will remain one of my greatest disappointments as a Sox fan. I thought they were primed to go back to back, at least as pennant winners.

How about: Leury Moncada TA McCann Jose Eloy Yonder Yolmer Tilson

White Sox vs Nationals 7:10 CT Despaigne vs Anibal Sanchez
I'd love to see TA and Moncada at the top. Leury 9. That's 3 really pesky hitters back to back to back right before you get to the big boppers.

Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
He's guaranteed 34K a year plus medical for the rest of his life. His big league dream might be over for a year (or forever) but he's fine. On another club he might never have seen a single day in MLB.

White Sox vs Nationals 7:10 CT Despaigne vs Anibal Sanchez
I talked about an extension for him the other week and thought something like 3 years 24 million but consensus seemed that was an overpay.

Thank god it's McCann and Eloy 4 and 5. Castillo and Yonder at 4 are great rally killers.

He's played a really nice CF this year. He hasn't even had more than 1-2 of his patented brain farts on throws into the IF where he misses the cut or throws to the wrong base. It will be nice to have him as the super sup in the next few years hard to carry his OPS as a starter but as a 4th OF and backup IF it's great.

2005 Championship team and WAR....
If you get nearly 1000 innings from 5 starters and around an ERA+ of 110-115 you're going to be good. Throw in an elite bullpen and average position player talent and you can win 90+ games and a WS. Don't think the Sox will be able to get that level of pitching during this rebuild but they can get much better position player output. Just need a couple really good starters to win a short series or two. Looks like Gio could be one of those guys.

Lets return the favor and take 2 in Chicago from these bums.

I was going to ask about this: can you guys do more thread merging? It seems the board is as busy as it's been in years and too much concurrent discussion is happening.

ASG Voting Update
Not sure I like this new format. That said, all I want is for Gio to start.

FS Podcast: Keith Law
Think his opinion on Moncada is a bit ill informed, especially when he in the next breath he mentions Eloy's advanced plate control as a huge long term plus. Moncada is a very unique hitter. He's 11th in avg exit velocity, just a tick below guys like Schwarber and Yelich and coupled with his elite speed allows him a massive 379 BABIP. That will regress a bit but not too much, he should be able to produce BABIPs in the 330-360 range in his prime. His walk rate is down to 7% but I'd expect it to go back up next year as pitcher's start to work around him. His power is starting to become well known. Law says Moncada will be an above average regular but he's already a borderline star even with the growing pains. If he finishes this season with 4+ WAR the sky is the limit for him in 3-4 years as he matures mentally. He could be a 6 WAR player which would certainly mean he lived up to his prospect billing.

He was probably playing through it and after the pain and soreness got too bad got a scan and they discovered the tear. You can do some athletic shit with a torn labrum, Rashan Gary has been playing football with one for a couple years.

Hope so, just know he's had issues in the past. His social media deletion is odd. Hopefully just frustration with his injuries.
