  1. You're spot on here and you know what? I get the feeling that Hahn doesn't think it's his job to sell JR on these investments. Again that's infuriating as a fan.
  2. That's great except there's no evidence the Sox have any sort of plan here beyond saving money. Most of these latin guys are so young that scouting is crapshoot. As @bmags often says it's partly just a numbers game at that low of a level. You want bodies. Quality is fine but quantity also will pay off in the long run.
  3. It is a big deal given all we know about JR and his orgs. It's another troubling sign that winning, although a priority, is not the main focus. Winning is nice, but profits are better.
  4. Sadly the simplest answer is that the org doesn't think it's important or is to cheap to invest in the area. Either way it's incredibly disheartening as a fan. There's no good explanation as to why they a) didn't spend the money and b) traded it away to clear ash tray money from the payroll.
  5. What a joke. Sometime in the next 8 months this franchise is going to have to APPEAR to not be run like a bodega with empty shelves and a back entrance for the crew's money guy to take a clean suitcase of bills every Friday evening. You want fans to think of it as a real club and not just a front to make money for JR? Then stock some fucking shelves.
  6. when your argument for keeping a guy boils down to anything but his on field production you know you're drowning.
  7. If nobody asks him about it postgame well, that would be par for the course for the media.
  8. madrigal is a once in a 1k profile for a modern player. I'd be fine with it. He's more like a cricket batter.
  9. thanks I got my heckling material for ricky next month in seattle.
  10. I am a FAN of the squeeze and I still think Renteria uses it about 500% more often than it's called for.
  11. anybody that pays close attention sees the same thing it's a classic aging slugger profile. look at this. he can't hit fastballs anymore.
  12. another guy trending the wrong way. one of the most empty 290 averages in history. He'll be lucky to make a good 24th man on a good team. I'm letting myself get frustrated but man it's frustrating few weeks.
  13. There's a real chance Jose finishes at negative fWAR the way he's going. Think about that. He's down to .5.
  14. well time to turn this one off.
  15. Jose down to a 784 OPS I see, not great.
  16. oh just the usual, we all know it. G-rate stinks, the club has stunk, rebuild is in progress, some pieces but still a long ways to go. and coming from the stinkin' mets crew it's just annoying.
  17. ok if you're going to give him an extra inch on the inside corner all night we can all just go home now. isn't this the ump that Boone ripped the fuck out of?
  18. Yoan so smooth. Nice off speed pitch by Lopez as well to get the slow roller.
  19. god listening to the mets announcers rip the sox is depressing AF.
  20. Ah, whatever, make them hit their way on.
  21. Lopez pumping strikes is a Lopez I enjoy watching.
  22. Thank god that heater was at 96, just got it in on him enough.
  23. I hope you're right. And your 2nd point is spot on and hopefully one the Sox understand for this offseason.
  24. And ichiro could have hit 50 HR a year if he wanted. Don't believe everything you read. Jose has never taken his walks except maybe for a brief period in the first two seasons he was in MLB. He's lost bat speed and now is flying open and pull happy that's not going to help with his outside slider problem it's just made it worse. Has absolutely nothing to do with "protection". If he was seeing so many shitty pitches he should be taking a helluva lot more walks. But he's not. So what does that tell you? That he thinks he's helping the team by grounding into a double play or striking out? No, it tells you fans and perhaps Jose himself are reaching for excuses instead of facing reality and that is that he's a declining slugger that has always had a problem laying off junk outside.
  25. Another genius Manfred move. Deadline looks like it's going to be a complete dud. At least with the old system you'd have a chance of seeing a big move for an overpaid star after the 31st. Hope to be proven wrong.
