  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) That’s the normal White Sox move. Bring in Donaldson or Turner a year or two late...stay out of the Arenado and Machado sweepstakes. Of course, Dunn and Robertson were big dollars at their respective positions, but not anywhere close to $300 million plus contracts. We shall see. JR signed Belle to the biggest contract in MLB history. He's not going to shy away from it if that's what it takes.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxwinner @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 12:05 AM) Perks of having a loaded farm system. for sure. feels good man.
  3. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) I wasn't being critical of the suggested acquisition. My comment was only meant to clarify what it would actually entail. it was a good point you made.
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) More accurately; "You turned Adam Eaton and $300 + Million into Lopez, Machado and Dunning" Well, I don't think I've ever said this on a message board: but it's not my money. Getting Machado wrapped up for 300 million ($30m x 10, boom done) with this young core (minus Gio granted) would have be over the moon excited. Machado is a proven 5 war player. Yea there is some risk in signing him but it's one some team is going to take and if it's the Sox, well f*** me I love it.
  5. QUOTE (Nokona @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) https://twitter.com/georgeofman/status/941493980201660416 Ofman says no Gio or Kopech says "likely" which seems kinda a silly hedge to me if you're tweeting about it. Pick a side. I'd offer Gio. JR has blessed this move, and he wouldn't bless it if he didn't think they had a shot to resign him. Gio is worth a shot IMO. (You turned Adam Eaton into Lopez, Machado and Dunning!) And getting Machado is going to put some butts in the seats and eyes on the TVs.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Signature material. When the goal is to suck, Cody's your man -- his agent.
  7. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) BA had Kopech 32. Devers was 18. You aren't getting all three in a trade. Honestly, Kopech right now is probably worth more. Kopech is going to be ranked top 10 by every publication in spring and probably top 5 by a couple. He had an absolute ridiculous season relative to age and level and he put to bed any concern of not having the stamina or pedigree to start. He looks like an improved prospect from last offseason and that is saying quite a bit considering he didn't have that far to elevate. I would think long and hard about Kopech straight up for Devers. I'd probably pull the trigger just based on TINSNAPP but man I'd worry every single night laying in bed I traded Thor 2.0 for "just" a 5 WAR 3B.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) If all you gave up was Sanchez, and he walks, and he's a 2 WAR player like he was last year, congratulations you've weakened your 2019 and 2020 roster by $15 million a year in value. You guys know how this works. If "a year to pitch to him" is what it takes and that works, great, but Rick Hahn would be gambling his 2019 roster's key addition on that year. If he loses that gamble, there should be consequences. I love Yolmer but if I hear we got Machada for Yolmer I'm going to be firing up a fat ass joint in Hahn's name. Is there anybody here that wouldn't take that deal? Hell, worst case you break off talks and flip him at the deadline for almost certainly more than Yolmer's value.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) If they don't expect to be able to get an extension done, that's still 2 possible guys who could be contributors in 2019 for a guy who won't be. That's a move that makes us worse in 2019. Why make the team worse on paper in 2019 and 2020? If you know you have $1000 in the bank and a $900 rent check coming due, spending that $299 on a great TV is still a mistake. Because as the post right before yours explained: try and buy him for a dollar and sell him for two. Hahn is simply kicking the tires here. He'd be stupid/lazy and bad at his job if he didn't at least look into it. As for the TV analogy: I'd flip the TV for $600 tmr and double my money. That's what Hahn is trying to see if he can accomplish.
  10. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Agreed the problem lies is the O's aren't stupid they are going to want controllable players the very same players where you could use the cost savings to keep the payroll low and justify making a big offer to Machado. The other problem with Machado is it basically locks you into going for it this year. You can't trade Abreu. You can't trade Garcia. If someone comes at you large offer I want Hahn to be able to make deals. I don't want the club to be trapped because they traded for Machado hell I wouldn't want them to be trapped if they were a borderline WC team but I don't think anyone thinks even with Machado this team is anywhere close to a WC team. This would be a tremendously dumb trade regardless of the cost. I guess the only way it might make some sense if they bought him at dirt cheap like the Yankees did with Chapman and he didn't affect the direction of the offseason but I doubt the Orioles sell him for that they'd just keep him wait for the deadline or recoup the pick. if you get machado for Dunning and Yolmer there is nothing stupid about this trade. For all we know, that's what they offered and why Bob is now saying their offer wasn't that strong. I don't need a new TV that badly but if my neighbor has a sign outside his place that says he's selling a Sony 4K HDR Bravia 60" for $299 imma go check it out.
  11. People losing their damn minds over rumors. Come on, what in the last 18 months makes you think NOW Hahn is impatient and wants to throw away all that hard work he did to go all in on a Machado trade? Have some faith, or a beer.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) I haven't seen anyone say this yet so I will - if RH does trade for Machado and the player leaves as a free agent, that would count in my eyes as his 6th "fireable offense". That's how big of a mistake that would be. well sure but the worst case scenario isn't that, it's that they can't recoup at the deadline what they traded in the offseason. If Machado isn't signing there's zero chance they let him just walk. I mean, if Hahn trades Kopech and Eloy for Machado you fire him too, but that's not going to happen.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) Machado hates Boston and would never sign with them. And what would they give up anyways? it would certainly be interesting to see those clubs do a deal after all the fighting they did on field last year.
  14. Seems like the Sox could offer a package similar to something around Sanchez. Start with Dunning (or Gio/Lopez) and go from there. This guy Sanchez is a good prospect but he's not a top 20 guy or anything. More like a B+ type.
  15. QUOTE (Saladino'sMustache @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:47 PM) Not saying this means anything, but 14 minutes ago Delmonico posted a picture on Instagram with Machado that was taken in 2010....https://www.instagram.com/p/BcsqSiMnlQJ/?taken-by=nickydelmonico interesting. It's some smoke.
  16. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) @Buster_ESPN The Diamondbacks have checked in on Machado conversations. White Sox, Cardinals have best offers so far. How does it make any sense that the two best offers are Cards and Sox? Those clubs couldn't be further apart in their windows.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) I think the White Sox are just playing Pricing Cop to make sure nobody gets him cheap. They're probably legitimately surprised that they're considered a high bidder. Well if they are just doing "due dilligence" and found their offer was pretty good maybe they should act on it.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) I suppose that's the thing about the word "discussed" instead of "included". Unless he comes with a guaranteed 5-7 year extension would you even trade Kopech for Machado straight up? I wouldn't.
  19. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Wrong you're fun. you'd think with 120 odd posts you could maybe add some context to some. Sorry, but there's no guarantee TA makes a smooth transition to CF. It's my opinion you know, but there's a reason you don't see the transition that often.
  20. Ya know an infield of Yolmer, Machado, Moncada, Abreu gets me excited.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) I like this Dan Clark fellow: https://twitter.com/danclarksports/status/941155857022066688 lol, the aussie accent slays me.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) Dan Clark‏Verified account @DanClarkSports Offers on Manny Machado are so strong, the #Orioles may finalize a trade by week's end. #HotStove https://twitter.com/DanClarkSports/status/941392974151270400 Well things are heating up.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) Why wouldn't it Because the chances TA are a plus CF are less than that he's a plus SS, especially factoring in positional scarcity. If Machado is coming, TA should be going out imo.
  24. "No timetable" is all I needed to here. FFS how encouraging can it be.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Another thing Rosenthal said is that Machado would play SS and the Sox would move Anderson to CF. Well that doesn't make much sense IMO.
