  1. Everytime this comes up (that Hahn doesn't have 100% authority) I have to just ask: so why the fuck is he on the job? Why would he risk his entire future employment being the fall guy as the titular "GM" if he's being over-ridden by the owner or KW? Maybe that's the working relationship they have but JR has never, ever struck me as the meddling type. KW sure, but if Hahn doesn't have final say on all roster moves than again I'd ask why he has chosen to be the GM of the White Sox. Maybe he's just a cuck that way, but I doubt it, given his ascendance as one of the younger GMs in the game and his background as a new analytics type.
  2. Not sure what part of "want" and "ideally" you missed in his comments. Hahn always couches his public statements in plenty of caveats. Nothing changed and this was the plan all along would be my guess (if they do call him up).
  3. Eloy has about 150 PA in AA and he has like a 330/400/600 slash line. If you include his 100 or so PA in the DWL (usually considered AA-AAA level) he's basically produced at like a 180 wRC+ level over his last 250 PA at that level. As I said in the other thread, he's ready to come up and hit 260/320/480 now. It's only a matter if they want to keep him out of Super 2, which IMO shouldn't really be a concern. There's no way they can keep him down all year and extend that service time out to next year, not without seriously pissing him off IMO and perhaps poisoning the relationship the Sox have with him.
  4. I've argued that I don't really think there's much growth left for Kopech in AAA so I wouldn't mind the move. Presumably he'd be up to stay and Kopech seems like a guy that is going to benefit from being around other big leaguers and seeing how they work, prepare, and balance the intensity over a 162 game season. Working on his changeup or whatever at AAA is fine, but he's not going to face the pressure of big league innings and again, from what I've seen of Kopech he is a "iron sharpens iron" type. He's a lot like Moncada in that there's just too much natural talent there to really force improvement at the minor league level.
  5. Nice. Good on the Sox for spending a little more to keep a quality product. The Sox rate highly on the hot dog rater: https://lifehacker.com/every-hot-dog-in-major-league-baseball-ranked-1819249617
  6. Do the Sox use Aramark as their vendor? If so, I don't think you could pay me a $1 to eat one of their hot dogs.
  7. Opening AB single for Eloy, OPS now over 1000 for the season and his hitting streak extended to 11 games. He's sporting a 15.8% K rate. He's probably ready to hit 260/320/480 in MLB right now. I don't think you could call him up today and think you were rushing him. At the least, move him up to AAA by the end of May. He proved, a long with his performance in the winter Dominican league, that AA level is no challenge for him.
  8. That delivery from McClure is nice. Really easy to see him adding some velocity as he matures into his frame. And thanks I had asked about him too, interesting tidbit on his bonus. Seems like a smart pick from the Sox at that spot.
  9. I looked at Quintana's stats since he left the Sox and it really seems like he's a 2-3 WAR starter now and now at 4-6 WAR guy. His K rate is down, hard hit rate is up, and walk rate is up. He's just not the same guy. Hahn absolutely aced that trade.
  10. The biggest question imo remains can the Sox develop and ID non premium talent? They aren't going to be getting anymore Moncadas or Eloys or Kopechs, where the other club did the majority of the legwork. The Sox need a lot more Yolmers. Just guys that are solid starters, won't blow you away, but aren't going to kill you either. Post 2005 the Sox time and time again tried a "stars and scrubs" approach but could never even get their scrubs up to replacement level or 1-2 WAR level, especially in the premium defensive positions. Yes there will be money to plug holes but I'd much rather see the money spent on one or two huge acquisitions, and then a solid drafting and development base allows them to plug holes internally rather than buying mediocre at best (Melky types) starters on the FA market.
  11. amazing how accurate his arm is when he sets and throws...
  12. he hung it and he didn't hurt it.
  13. matt couldn't have fouled that one off last year.
  14. each team is trying to outstupid the other.
  15. ah fuck. tweaked the hammy.
  16. what kind of swing was that Yolmer? Ugh.
  17. Moncada is good for getting on base twice a game usually. That's nice to have at the top. It's too bad the botton of the lineup is almost never on for him when he's not leading off.
  18. "We have six runs and the other team has four, I think it's a good time to call a suicide squeeze with nobody out and the platoon advantage." FIRE YOURSELF.
  19. why the fuck would you squeeze there? that's as bad as any bunt ricky has called for this year. IT'S THE 5TH INNING AND IT'S 6-4! Goodness. Managing like it's a pitcher's duel in game 5 of the world series and it's the bottom of the 7th 1-1.
  20. Yea bring the infield in!
  21. JFC this team makes so many fucking boneheaded plays. I just smoked a bowl to take the edge off. FFS.
  22. Batting practice fastball after batting practice fastball.
