  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) So Ryan can magically hit .280 now? Magic. Moustache.
  2. Well come on Carlos, from the stretch again, time to do this better. Bottom of the order at least.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) AA is under pretty much a make the playoffs or your fired line, so what good to him is his farm system and a longer term plan if he can't get in the playoffs. I think the Sox doing what the Jays did would have been bad given our current roster (not to mention we wouldn't have had the horses to do it). That said, at least a few of the guys they got will be under team control. The problem for us is...as you say, they got clearly better. That certainly seems to make it a lot harder for us to gain the remaining WC ground, right?
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) Yeah, I am with you. Just cause he wasn't traded doesn't mean they weren't willing to trade him. I don't know that they were really listening and if they were, I presume it would have taken an overly strong offer to get him (vs. a normal offer) but just because someone isn't traded doesn't mean a team wasn't listening. If they didn't get an offer that made sense to KW / RH and that would be an offer that outweighs benefits of comp pick + continuing to give it a run with the current club, then they didn't pull the trigger. We can say we'd have done things different but to clearly assume that is just absurd. Were the Pads never interested in moving Upton? They were, they just never got a price they felt was good enough. They might have been crazy cause they aren't near as close to the WC spot as we are, but they clearly in their eyes, didn't think the offer was worthwhile. The quotes in the Upton thread suggested that the Padres weren't really interested in moving their guys and still think they have a shot at competing for the WC. "We need an overly strong offer to trade a guy" = to me "we're not willing to trade him". If you think you're in the race enough that you need "an overly strong offer" to trade a guy, then it's time to fill some lineup holes, like everyone else we're chasing did. Stuck in the middle = "we're just not willing to move him".
  5. QUOTE (asindc @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Of course not. Why do you ask? Then they weren't willing to trade Jeff Samardzija. That's pretty straightforward to me.
  6. QUOTE (asindc @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) How do you know they weren't willing? Did they trade Jeff Samardzija?
  7. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) He said just a week ago that he wants to continue to pitch well so he can increase his trade value and go to a better situation. He doesnt think they have what it takes so why should I? I missed that quote?
  8. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) My only concern is that the White Sox management may not know what they currently have. If there's any truth to that, then I'm concerned. They have played 100 games and don't have a winning record, but are just a few games behind for a wildcard spot, albeit being a few teams. Does the last 8 games cause the White Sox to re-think what they saw for the first 90? Do they still think the team underachieved for 90 games and are now playing up to what they thought? Could they have gotten more value on Samardzijia had they pulled a trigger on a move? This may not even be fair to the Sox, but they normally like to 'go for it' and aren't a team that typically rebuilds so not doing something, at least to me, signals they don't want to risk being wrong about thinking this team can win, but also not mortgaging what few prospects they do have. @whitesox Hahn: "If we continue to play the way we have... We'll be right in the thick of this thing until the end." So...yes.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 1m1 minute ago Rick Hahn: Rentals came into play in last week. No moves made sense. #WhiteSox David Schuster ‏@Schumouse 2m2 minutes ago Rick Hahn said he's disappointed and frustrated he couldn't get a deal done Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox 3m3 minutes ago "We were aggressive on multiple fronts. Ultimately costs did not justify the return." -- Rick Hahn So basically what people were guessing he'd say hours ago?
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Recall that Scott Kazmir, who one would assume has a similar value to Samardzija, garnered the A's ... not a single top 200 prospect. Is that based on a mid-season list? Because that catcher they got has been having a good year.
  11. @ChiTribKane Chris Sale escaped media group asking for trade deadline comment but did say, "Why wouldn't we want to keep the team the same?"
  12. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) Well, CarGo will most likely pass through waivers. Of course, they couldn't use Avi Garcia in the trade now though, because he won't pass. What other waiver wire bats are you suggesting? If the talk of the Rockies wanting a decent return for him is true I think this is unlikely. Heck, if I were the White Sox GM I'd block him.
  13. QUOTE (RaySox @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) According to their GM, they have a good chance at the Postseason. They do have the same number of wins as us and 1 fewer team in front of them for the 2nd WC spot (although 1 of the teams in front of the White Sox is the Tigers who sold off).
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) The poster said we had no top 100 position player who could contribute next year, but we clearly have one who can. Unfortunately there's a bit of a logjam in his way right now. Which might have made him a tempting candidate to use in a trade this trading deadline, if we believed in this team enough to hold onto Samardzija.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) I'd be pissed as a Cubs fan they didn't do more I generally understand that and I think Cubs fans do too... They've spent so many years selling on the future that they're all convinced "even if we don't make the playoffs this year we're going to start rocking the next few years and keep getting better". I still remain kinda surprised they haven't moved Baez for something.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Why would a non playoff team block him? And a team in contention might be willing to trade something for him. If not, there's a draft pick which everyone seems to hate, although they also hate signing established MLB players and giving up lower picks than the one the Sox will receive. You don't know the offers, so why don't you just stop this act trying to get the complainers going for just one day? Think of it this way...the White Sox have one of the worst records out of any "competitive" team right now. They have to worry about anyone going anywhere. If there's anyone put on the waiver wire where an AL team might be interested in them, the White Sox basically need to block that from happening unless the contract is something they wouldn't take on. Whoever the worst "competitive" team is in each league basically needs to sit there and block. The only team you're going to be able to trade him to is that team. Maybe Diamondbacks or Padres in the NL? (waiver wire crosses leagues first right?)
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) We are in no way obligated to sign a big ticket FA. There won't be many anyway, especially if you don't plan on looking at starting pitchers. Heyward will cost a pick, Upton apparently will, and Cespedes won't. There aren't as far as I know any major players slated to be available at non-OF positions of course we're not obligated to...we could instead go into next year with a similar roster to the one we currently have, except probably without Samardzija and with a rookie in his place in the rotation.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) I agree. I've been stopped several times late at night after working for basically no reason. "Rolling" a stop sign when there's basically no traffic. They are looking for drunk drivers. Somehow they believe me and have never tested me even though I sometimes get nervous talking to cops. But the stops are unnecessary. They have absolutely tested you whether you realize it or not. First thing they do on a DUI stop is usually shine a light in your eyes, that causes your pupils to contract. If you're moderately intoxicated there's a noticeable slowdown in the eye response. If they don't see that, they listen to your voice for a few seconds and those 2 combined are a pretty solid giveaway.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) We're going to regret not getting anything for Samardzija Bah, hard to regret what we don't have, we'll just say how the system is lacking position player prospects and then go play the FA market. Probably give up a draft pick again in the process.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) Actually this time the Post rewrote the Mail story, in effect borrowing from them. Vice versa. This Hillary thing is getting scary. The country can't see her blind ambition to be coronated. And our country's voters have proven how dumb they can be. In Kansas they reelected Brownback despite him being in the news every day for his policies that have ruined a once great state. Yet during the s***storm they reelect Brownback in a landslide. Crazy country we live in. Please look into Hillary more before giving her her crown that she feels she's entitled to. I know, how dare she have the nerve to run for President. Donald Trump's an honest man, he'd never do something that nakedly ambitious. And for Hillary to put out policies and campaign too...the nerve.
