  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) He's also 24. I'd like to see him sat down. Give him a couple mental days and coached up. His problem is much deeper than something a couple mental days will fix.
  2. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) Yeah, I thought I heard that Saladino is a viable option there defensively. I don't see what Alexei has on Saladino next year. Or this year tbh. We just don't have a 3rd baseman Sanchez has played there some also and we do have a viable 2b option...but that's not an IF you have a whole lot of confidence in, in terms of experience & such.
  3. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) is Saladino all of the sudden not a shortstop? People seem to completely forget that for whatever reason. I'd wager money that Saladino is more productive than Alexei next year at SS. Technically Sanchez has played there a decent amount too, although Saladino likely best defender.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Oh come on. Longoria's value is way, way down. Elite? Not anymore. Not even in Cameron's top 50 (Quintana is, what, #30?) This kind of stuff is beyond belief. Does anyone even look at his numbers? Not only is he way down this season, he was way down last season. But you need the Rays to actually be motivated to move him for a reduced price. Do you see them doing that? I sure don't. Jose Abreu is way down from last season but if you want to trade for Jose Abreu, the White Sox would demand the kind of price you'd pay for a 40 HR guy right now because that's who he might be next year again.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) I think the Tigers will make a surge in August with Cabrera back. I think Dombrowski is a clever guy and I wouldn't be surprised it he went out and got another pitcher. Do they even have a date for Cabrera starting rehab stint? IIRC that was still up in the air.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) There ya go! But would warrant some cash from Dodgers. He's having a good year, but since June, his OPS is right around .700....nothing special. It's a monetarily expensive risk for ($38 million for 16 and 17, incl buying out 18). But if you look at his splits, he's got a .831 OPS against righties! We have plenty of right handed players on the bench, all we'll need is for Robin to use him in a platoon role and he'll be a solid contributor.
  7. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) St.Louis can get LaRoche for next to nothing and he has a history of decent production in the NL. I doubt Milwaukee would give Lind away. LaRoche could platoon with Reynolds and they may even get the Sox to kick in some cash. That's the trick. They have Adams coming back next year so they don't need LaRoche next year, and he's got a big money deal for next year that absolutely no team will want to take on. They'd probably be able to move him by then sending more money, but that's creating a problem they don't need to deal with when there are 1-year options available. And then...how often do the White Sox kick in lots of money to move people with years remaining on their deal?
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) The point in contenders acquiring players is to upgrade over what they currently have. LaRoche's bat would not even be an upgrade over Alvarez so why would Pitt want anything to do with LaRoche? As Balta pointed out and I agree, STL is better off making a push for Lind and the same could be said about Pitt. We're seemingly stuck with LaRoche. Pittsburgh has been rumored to want to part with Alvarez on the "headcase/we're tired of him" level. If LaRoche were putting up similar numbers, which he was a couple weeks ago, I could have seen that making sense - the Pirates take on some extra money but remove their headcase problem. Unfortunately LaRoche's numbers have been in such a tailspin while Alvarez has had a good week, so it no longer looks like a plausible matchup.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) I expected all of my liberal friends to be up in arms about a group calling for another human's death by hanging. I just assume Peta says things to get a rise out of people because that's what they do. It's their marketing. If you want to market for them, I guess go ahead?
  10. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) LaRoche doesn't have to go to Colorado in a deal. Ship him St.Louis or Pittsburgh for scraps. At least they'd be rid of his salary to offset Cargo's. With the way he's hit over the last month it seems like neither of them would actually want him. Both teams have been interested in Lind as an actual option.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) The National Gun Victims Council also jumped on it crazy for a few hours until someone pointed out to them that it was a bow hunter. MAIG even had a statement about it on their site for about an hour before they took it down. DOH! To be fair, the lion was actually killed with a gun. The guy wounded him with the arrow and then 40 hours later they tracked him down and put him out of his misery.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) I had debated bringing it up earlier because the outrage has been kind of extreme and borderline ridiculous. And you're surprised that PETA got in on the act because?
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) And seriously, Cecil wasn't as famous as people were making him out to be. Who here really heard of him before he was killed? No one here thought it was a big enough deal to bring up until the "OMG PETA said something out-rageous!!!" post.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Has anyone really paused to think about that? The hunt would have been legal with the proper permits and in a different area. Then no one would have been outraged? This specific one was at least in a protected area and thus shouldn't have been exposed to that hunt. However you're right that this def. goes on all the time otherwise. For those areas, it's an exploitable natural resource.
  15. QUOTE (RaySox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I would do that I don't think the Rays would.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) There's a decent argument, I think made through a 60 minutes special, that these big game hunters are actually a net positive to the animal populations/reserves, because they pay so much. They fund a lot of these places which allow animals to thrive. Not sure if that is the case here with a lion. I believe I saw the 60 minutes you're referencing and it focused on ranches in Texas that had imported large numbers of the endangered species and were keeping them alive in such a way that it was increasing the global population of the animals, with the exception that the ranches were keeping them alive for big game hunting on the ranches. Assuming that's the case, it's a very different story from big game hunts in Africa.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Why? If you hire an expert in any other field (doctor, lawyer, whatever) and you rely on their expertise, its generally not your fault if some third party gets hurt through their screw up. Well yeah, but in those cases you also have licensing deals and other similar arrangements that you can use to indicate that the person is actually doing their job. If you buy a car from a guy off the street and you pay cash, and the car turns out to be stolen, you're the one possessing stolen property. Something tells me there aren't exactly licensing agencies in Africa that make sure people file appropriate big game hunting paperwork. Please tell me if I'm wrong and there's a strong labor union protecting their rights.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Also, isn't there a rule of 10-15 days before you can get called up for a 2nd time or am I imagining that? It is 10 days with the exception of an injury replacement, in that case the 10 day waiting period is waived.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) He should. Flying ten feet off the ground peeking under roofs? I hope they were laughing at each other saying "what are they going to do, shoot it down!" The point is how do you investigate and charge someone with flying a drone in an unsafe, harassing, manner? We sometimes talk about all the new laws that get created and we don't need any more laws. Here is a prime example. Drones. Registration? Permits? Training? Identifying signals? Tracking? Flight plans? Limit the size and range? Some lawyers are going to be making bank in this industry. If you want another interesting case, several drones interfered with firefighting in L.A. about 2 weeks ago and as a consequence several loads of fire retardant were dropped away from their targets. The fire in question hopped the 15 freeway and destroyed a bunch of cars, so they literally produced hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Davidson, Montas, Danish, and Anderson for Longoria Not enough. Would you give up Quintana for that package if another team had those guys?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) I'm fine with him shooting it. How else are you going to stop that? Call the cops? The drone will be gone by then and there's no way for the pervs to get caught. You should have a right to privacy on your property, including the air above your property. Good for this guy for fighting it. If the bullet were to hit someone on the way back down, would he face extra charges for that?
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) There are new people in the Padres front office since the Rizzo/Cashner deal, right? Don't want the Cubs making a blatant steal again I don't think we can guarantee that the Padres FO won't be hired by the Cubs this offseason.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Wonder what it would take to get tampa to listen on Longoria. Rodon? Not sure if Fulmer + Anderson + Montas does it.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Shields? Upton? Kimbrell? Combination of those? I think Kimbrel is worth more than those, Baez does make sense as a possible return for either of the first 2 IMO. I'm also pretty down on Baez though, so "a rental OF" or "a starting pitcher where the Cubs take on a ton of money" are the way I read those.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) I agree. But 3 in the top 65 isn't bad. Law had us 10-15 last January. Carlos Rodon = a big boost.
