  1. Holy crap, that's like the opposite of every other play Reyes has made this series.
  2. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) What will making a bunch of white kids feel like s*** do to fix the problem? Todays kids are more accepting of everyone then ever before. Sounds like what you want is for it to be reversed and for white kids to have to go thru hell and back because someone else had to do it years ago that didn't look like them. And the next example of white privilege presented in this thread is asserting that it doesn't happen any more. Maybe we should educate our kids better on what kinds of additional privileges they get because of their skin color. You guys are the textbook examples of why. You just don't have to face up to that...because...well you knwo.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) I also refuse to apologize for whatever, if any, advantage I have for being white. I hate white people as much as black people or brown people, if they are deserving of my hate. Assholery knows no color. When hiring, if you can do the job right and make me money, I don't care what color you are, so I am not keeping anyone down, other than stupid people who can't do the job I need them to do. My current designer is a bisexual hispanic woman, the one before that was a fat gay man. I had hired some black guy who just got out of college but he quit before he even started because he got a better offer, so gay fat guy it was. And of course, the ability to say that and have it turn out to exclude people because of a long legacy of things that happened to them is a part of the white privilege we get to ignore.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) The edge that tanking provides, farm wise, is give you the one top draft choice (and they've hit on most of those). After the first pick, you are essentially drafting after the best team in baseball. They've been great with a lot of picks and work the slots, $$ and scout and develop really well. With the notably large exceptions of the 2013 and 2014 first rounds.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) I, and most sane white people, don't deny there's a certain privilege to being white. However, it's not of my doing nor does it continue because of anything I do. So to blame me for it or make me apologize for it is bulls***. So it's not your fault, you can't be called upon to act to do anything to correct that problem, yet somehow it doesn't continue because of anything you do. And there's the beautiful contradiction that is white privilege. It doesn't exist because of anything you do but you can't be asked to do anything about it, you just get to enjoy the benefits. Fixing it is other people's problem. They just need to be better, after all.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Ah yes, the "they do it too so it's ok for us!" response. No, that's the "read your own words and actually pause to check your own privilege" response.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) Cheap compared to Bill and Hillary prices. Let's see some Yahoo news stories on that instead. Only slightly more than the empty headed Chelsea gets. At least he isn't fibbing about 'donating' the fees, to his own charity like Hillary does. Stanford University (B.A.) Columbia University (M.P.H.) University of Oxford (University College, Oxford) (M.Phil., D.Phil.) Thankfully we won't have to worry about any other random assumptions like that during the next campaign season, I'm sure.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Well, you may not be surprised to hear that I don't mind Leury staying down and maybe finding a half-ass decent gap stroke. I do have worries about whether his defense could be oversold. I don't know what to take away from his MLB numbers beyond what should have been obvious when we called him up: he was in no way prepared to hit MLB pitching. Leury was treated as an expendable utility guy by both the Rangers and the White Sox in order to allow their roster to do more important things (Have other bats on the bench like Konerko). There was virtually zero chance he would be successful in the position he was put in. It will be extremely impressive if he's able to work hard enough to salvage his career. I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't count on it.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) But the documentary blames those white kids. WTF did they do but win the birth lottery? Nothing. It's a movie about making white kids feel bad about being white. That's bulls***. I know how bad would it be if large parts of this country regularly made minority groups feel bad about being the race that they were born? That'd be truly awful.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Don't underestimate the Heat and the Bucks next season. Unless Noah is healthy and Rose is a better version of what we say last year, the Bulls are a middle of the pack team in the east. I'd guess 3-4 seed when it's all said and done. Rose will never be Rose, Noah is officially done and on the decline, and they won't go balls to the wall for meaningless regular season games like they have been the last few years. Some of that can be offset by Mirotic being better and the bench being used better and the offense being better in general. My bigger worry out of what you mentioned though is that I'll believe Gasol can be as good as he was last year when I see it again, at some point he will actually get old.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) (2) whites in 2015, especially teenagers and young adults that this "documentary" is shaming, have nothing to do with the "privilege" and realistically are the LEAST privileged white people there has been in this country. And that's treated as somehow a badge of honor in this comment. Or an excuse to ignore the remaining significant inequalities.
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Righty on the mound for 18 of 22 first base starts, ~82%. Thank you for saving me the time (had to email co-author).
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Yeah, I am more pissed about that then this Jordan stuff, haha. Basically at this point it looks like the Bulls are set up to "try last season's roster again". I don't feel that excited about this situation. And It's not the only team in Chicago I'm expecting to say that about this year.
  14. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) With most of our org playing for 1st place in their respective leagues I foresee a lot less movement. Leave Montas and Anderson in AA, Saladino is playing well in AAA as is the pitching staff. No reason to shake things up. I realize the need to push kids, but I want to see guys playing in pennant races while they are young. one key question is...which teams are going to need strong 2nd halves to wind up in the playoffs?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Better solution: Put LaRoche at 1B and Abreu at DH full time. The results speak for themselves LaRoche at 1B .291/.380/.570 Abreu at 1B .281/.329/.477 LaRoche at DH .199/.308/.304 Abreu at DH .333/.375/.560 Do I actually have to look to find the correlation between LaRoche playing 1b and there being a righty starter on the mound or can we just believe it?
  16. LaRoche still solid...as long as there's no lefty on the mound.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:16 PM) Scott Carroll is awesome Amazing!!!
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) But if he's in our dugout in 2016, it will be the greatest example of our FO's hubris and lack of accountability. Just own that you eff'ed up and move on already. The real question is whether they'll give him another contract extension.
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) A quick hook would've made sense after getting 17 of 18 innings from the starters the last two nights, but that's our Robin. Got a lot of games coming up. Especially early next week.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Well, we knew this was coming; will Robbie get a pitcher warmed up before the game blows open? Carroll is warming.
  21. On the bright side, we did slightly improve on that terrible "first inning runs score/runs given up" ratio in this game.
  22. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) About to be 5-3 Good news is Danks kept Donaldson in the park!
